    I hate how they ask the kids "are you traumatized," because kids don't fully understand that this isn't normal. Whenever you ask a kid under 10 if they're alright, they will usually answer yes. It isn't until you're around 10 when you can understand what is right and wrong. They might also think that since it's their parents doing this, that this is just normal family activities, when it's in fact abuse.

    • @SwampGreen14
      @SwampGreen14 Před rokem +209

      Also, even if they do know that somethings wrong, the power dynamic between children and parents makes it very easy for them to influence the kids. „Just say this in the camera and I‘ll get you that hot wheels car you wanted“ That sorta thing.

    • @Abby_Goth
      @Abby_Goth Před rokem +140

      Hell even adult people have trouble realizing that they have been traumatized. A lot of people live their whole life with behaviors that are clearly trauma responses, never recognizing it as such. Even as someone who has been to therapy and is aware of mental health, it's incredibly hard to recognize that what you have been through is trauma.
      I don't know how they thought shoving a camera into child's face saying "You are not traumatized are you??" and filming them saying no has any credibility.
      Besides that the way cody looked while denying it, made me firmly believe that they gathered the kids before they turned on the camera and told them to better tell the viewers that everything's alright or else.

    • @Jenna_Talia
      @Jenna_Talia Před rokem +31

      When I was still with my dad, he would hit me frequently due to bad grades in school, and not just with his fists, he often use a wooden pole, or using the tail of those plastic aligator toys we had, and those beatings leave markings that last for at least 1-2 days. Sometimes it happens just hours before school so coming in I often just feel embarassed when friends ask where those markings come from. Even up until I'm 18 his beatings would still continue. And due to those traumatizing experiences my body automatically get chills running down my spine whenever I hear his motorcycle engine outside our gate, idicating he's home.

    "Why do you ban a kid from disneyland for making the toilet overflow" I feel like a lot more parents are guilty of specifically this kind of thing: Making your kid feel bad for an accident they did, or something that is literally out of their control. Like it is basically spitting in the face of "there's no use in crying over spilt milk." It's how you end up with people who overreact to, or dodge having to take responsibility for problems they cause in adulthood.
    Also I remember, from Robot and Monster of all fucking things, the show made a point that pranks are something both the pranker and the pranked should enjoy. If the victim of it is still irritated afterwards then you have just gone too far and it isn't a case of needing thicker skin.
    Plus does this guy not understand that titling a video "blocking all the haters" just makes everything ten times worse?

    • @louwinters508
      @louwinters508 Před rokem +26

      They banned Cody from Disney because he has behaviour problems. Not because he overflowed the tiolet.
      They said way before that Cody wasn'tlikely to go. They had said multiple times before the incident with the tiolet that he probably wasn't going to go. They even teased him about it for views.
      They couldn't be arsed dealing with him is what it was. They wanted a less stressful holiday with the kid with issues out of the way. So they didn't have to watch him. They excluded him for their own selfish reasons
      I feel so bad for that kid. He was earning most of the money for that channel yet he doesn't get to go to Disney. And probably never has. Imagine what he felt being sent off to the step grandparents while the whole family had a holiday.
      And then when they all cane back. He was taken away and put in Foster care.

      Worst part is I can totally understand why his parents made that decision and understanding it makes me very angry with them. My bet is they didn’t want Cody making a scene in public spaces and with Cody’s condition, that could be very likely. He could have a mental breakdown and start screaming because he wasn’t big enough for a ride or get mad when his parents say it’s time to go back to the hotel, like you can see their reasoning…the reasoning is bullshit just to clarify. Cause being a parent isn’t about the easy moments it’s about helping your kid through the bad moments and it seems his parents were doing everything to ignore Cody’s problems and see him as nothing more than a bad kid who deserved punishment for having a disorder he couldn’t control

    Oppositional Defiance Disorder is essentially what you’d see in kids featured on “Nanny 911” or “Super Nanny.” It’s a real thing that can get kids in a lot of trouble. It converts to Conduct Disorder in adults (ie, you can’t be diagnosed with Conduct Disorder without ODD as a kid.)
    People tend to think it’s just “bad parenting” but it’s a serious problem that requires a lot of therapy to control. Pranking him like that did some more serious damage to him beyond trust issues.

      As someone who's been diagnosed with this, I can confirm this to be 100% true. It took literal years of therapy from a young age to get anywhere close to controlling it, and although my parents never pranked me per se, it was immensely difficult not to lash out in anger most days.

      Conduct disorder is still reserved for children as well, right? I think ODD is basically a consistent defiance to authority figures in children while conduct disorder is more akin to antisocial personality disorder (which is reserved for adults like all personality disorders). I could be wrong but that's how I remember it from a few semesters ago lol
      Edit: After a bit of googling “Conduct disorder may be diagnosed in adulthood, but symptoms most commonly appear around ages 8 to 16. Some children who have conduct disorder go on to develop a similar condition known as antisocial personality disorder in adults.” The quote is from Psychology Today so take it as seriously as you would that site, but summed up what I was curious about.

The different between ODD and conduct disorder is that children with conduct disorder is more lacking in empathy and desires control, while ODD kids dislike being controlled.

    The whole point of treatments for disorders like these is to MINIMIZE how often the meltdowns happen so as to foster the skills to self-moderate. They set this child back for $$$ and views... I'm glad the parents got wrecked and that the kids are hopefully all in safer more stable and loving environments. Cody, in particular, deserved PEACE. The line where the stepmother said "I love you but I don't like you", I remember that line and it's even more fucked in context. Cody was crying in the tub because they said they were giving him up for adoption, and he started shouting at them to leave him alone and said "you don't like me, you don't love me, you don't care about me, so just go" to which she replies "I don't like you" and Cody says back "exactly" and points at her, and then she continues with that line "I love you, but I don't like you". Absolutely unacceptable at all, but even worse in context.

    Something caught my attention about the video and that being Pyro's lack of knowledge of the existence of O.D.D I would like to shed some light if he ever happens to see this. I have suffered from O.D.D since I was three years old. O.D.D's main problem lies within the failure to be able to contain anger and hostility, I have had to take meds from the time I entered the first grade(six years old) as they could not start me any earlier due to the laws surrounding giving prescribed medicine to children. I am currently seventeen almost eighteen and still take meds for it. The O.D.D has caused me many problems in my life such as always being in fights with other people, finding myself annoyed with people easily, especially my parents, finding myself wanting to punch things or even people for slight inconveniences, I used to punch walls until my knuckles would have blood spots in them from my anger, I once threatened to stab my step-sister over an argument. O.D.D can be and is very damaging to the way people have looked at me over the years of my life, I have found it hard to make or keep friends due to the many outbursts, and those who do stay are often output by my anger towards everyday things. I have learned to control my anger more recently but young children have a very very rough time adjusting to environments others would find simple. A young kid like Cody would definitely have had a rough time especially in such a hostile environment that he lived in during the Daddy-O-Five videos. O.D.D can be very dangerous if not treated correctly, I have personally seen it develop into bi-polar disorder in the case of my older sister who did not take meds or learn to control her anger later in her life. I had hoped someone who genuinely was diagnosed with it would be able to shed some light on the matter. If anyone is curious I was diagnosed at three years old because my sister was eight or nine at the time I was three so I would have to go along with my mother and sister to her checkups. Unbeknownst to me a three year old I was not the center of attention and got extremely mad when the doctor wouldn't pay attention to me, I walked over to the doctor and ripped the stool from underneath him and when then didn't get his attention I ripped a children sized bookcase down to get his attention. The doctor was able to tell what it was because like I mentioned previously my sister had been diagnosed with O.D.D so he could already tell what the main problem was and his suspicions were proved correct years later when they actually tested me for it and found I had O.D.D. I hope this super long paragraph was able to shed some light on the matter. Feel free to ask me other questions if anyone actually reads this 🙃

      @@thattempleguy6712 Yeah that's what I would think too, you would think bipolar issues would be the cause of the defiance and anger and stuff but not in my sisters case. Unless of course she has been bipolar for years and it was just assumed it was mood swings from adolescence. My sister has quite a few more screws loose than I do. It's different for different people, some people will have more of the defiance portion hating authority and not ever listening, mine manifested more in anger. My sister always had a clear dislike of my mother after her father passed and would often rebel against my mother. I'm no doctor though and have zero medical expertise outside of what my doctor and mother(who was training to be a nurse) have told me 🤷🏼‍♂️

Living in unstable large families suck, and typically the most reactive or hyperactive child gets the worst of it. Although I feel a lot more timid and chill now I know I was pretty reactive when I was a kid, before my parents did the splitaroo. I hope Cody also can find that space where he's able to mentally heal and move past this stuff he's been put through. If you want some more perspective into how screwed up this channel was, I watched this when I was younger. This was during the McJuggernuggets/AGP era of CZcams when freak out videos were king. I don’t remember how exactly I found the channel, but I think that it was through “freak out compilations”.
    Anyway, I started watching them decently early on, where the pranks were pretty harmless stuff like hockey mask pranks, or breaking a spare broken Xbox that the kid thinks was the real one, etc.
    Like Pyro mentions, the escalation was bad, but not just in the context of how these parents went further and further into more serious emotional abuse to capitalize on what was, looking back, a very nasty CZcams meta of that era where the more extreme the yelling and freaking out the more views. In my experience with that channel, the humble beginnings and gradual escalation into abuse acclimated and desensitized me to what I was seeing.
    I ENJOYED the later videos with the really nasty emotional abuse. I remember that during that “peak” I thought those were the most fun to watch videos they had made. And then right at that peak, the controversy happened and the channel essentially fell off a cliff. I defended them in comment sections like the little mindless fan drone I was. Fully believed every excuse the parents made and repeated them.
    After a little while with the channel gone there was nothing to keep my interest, and I moved onto the next trend to watch and different channels and never thought about it to the point I basically forgot. In recent years though, every now and then someone I watch now will reference it, or I’ll see a where are they now like this.
    I know I was just a kid but I feel dirty now for ever having enjoyed this. I feel like I was part of the problem by supporting them. Realistically I should just know that I was still just a kid back then who was desensitized to that stuff by those two adults who were basically terrible influences to their entire child audience and not beat myself up over it, but I just can’t not feel guilty about it. It’s just an icky feeling that’s always there when I’m reminded that that channel was a thing that really existed and not a fever dream.

      And look what happened. Cody and Emma were removed
      But at first I liked some of their videos. They seemed like a whacky family. But then it took a dark turn. Cody was clearly being put in highly stressful situations for views. Being wound up for the camera. Which wasn't funny.
      The last straw was when they wouldn't take Cody to Disney. And Heather was being a bitch about it the whole time.
      People were going on about the invisible ink prank. I thought that was mean. But it wasn't the worst of it by a long shot .

  • @toxogandhi

    My parents, when I was preschoolish age, would humiliate me and anger me for "fun".
    I still remember the day of outpatient rehab when my mother was asked to come along, and said, "I don't worry about her (me) slitting our throats as we sleep." I had all of the marks of a young male would-be serial killer... Bed wetting (partially from a genetic ailment, but still.) harming animals though I stopped hurting domestic pets, going for more interesting prey like rattlesnakes, with a few exceptions, like a neighbor's dog I kicked in the ribs so hard, it defecated, for attacking a cat of mine. In adulthood I went 180 to animal rescue, then, seeing that there are too many rescues - the problem is, they're all broke, so I breed (all my kittens go home sterile) and use that money, 3K a kitten, to fund rescues.
    I had weird phobias, had no idea how to just be a kid, and bashed my father over the head with a large pine knot, because my grandmother said it'd "make a good head knocker". I pulled a knife in school, tried to kill multiple family members, but I was a teen, so it isn't on my record. I stole, did IV drugs, dealt those same drugs, and have a trail of destroyed lives in my wake.
    I wish I could say that I'm ashamed. I'm not really sure how to be ashamed. Every person I've tried to cause harm was hurting me, and the people whose lives were ruined by drugs? If it wasn't me, it'd have been the next dealer. If you want something badly enough, you'll find it.
    Anyway, I married a good Christian man who is a man of his word, and a proper Christian who does everything he can to walk the walk. Weird couple, I know, but I need some light in my life... I've found it, and fortunately, it's the kind of relationship where our "arguments" sound like those of a Vulcan couple; a calm exchange of ideas, perspectives, and weighed pros and cons. That hollow spot in me where things like empathy, guilt, and natural human social interactions are for others is the divet in a piece of the puzzle which is me, for him. In return, I have made him rich by boosting his confidence and suggesting career moves. We are very happy. I got my happy ending. Oh, that stuff about my parents was the beginning of a long gauntlet of tragedies in my life, but a major tone setter... I turned that trauma into a sexual fetish, from which I then kink shamed myself out. Future traumas from that, while not relevant to this video, I believe were in part due to a maladaptation because my parents were such dicks. People making me angry as a child for the lulz was a frequent pattern, so, of course I was bullied in school, so much I dropped out, ran into the arms of a boyfriend, who'd go on to do things I can't describe here to me.
    Basically, be good to your kids. Don't let them become me. I too was diagnosed with ODD, though some shrinks called it something else, saying that the ODD shrink was not looking at the big picture: Conduct Disorder.

      On the flip side, when kids turn out "right", it's always attributed to their parents as their work... sometimes undeservedly, when they are not part of most of their life. And if they were, it would end horribly.

We hear from their parents that they are caught in physical confrontation with other kids at their school every other day. The worst part from an educational standpoint is that children with these behavioral disorders are far too often neglected in the classroom, when in reality they are the one who need the help the most. People diagnosed with this disorder will refuse to comply with orders not because they want to, but instead as a natural reaction.

ODD is one of the four most common diagnoses among children in the foster system, and is commonly found in children that have been abused by authority figures.
    even more worryingly, in treatment-resistant or treatment-non-receiving children, the general lifecourse of ODD is from oppositional defiant disorder to conduct disorder to antisocial personality disorder. altho it seems like just unruly behavior, its something thats actually very dangerous for a childs relationships with peers, friends, and parents, and can lead to a very dangerous life path
