Response to Globebusters - The Earth Still Isn't Flat

  • Last week I posted a video about how we know the Earth is round, from the perspective of modern astronomy. The Flat Earth community did not like it one bit, and the channel "Globebusters" decided to talk for three hours on their livestream about how stupid my video is, and how stupid I am. I didn't really appreciate that, so I decided to make a video about their video to illustrate precisely how little they know about science, and to further reinforce how utterly absurd the Flat Earth "model" is, as well as some of the finer points about the conspiracy. Enjoy!

Two flat earth engineers were standing at the base of a flagpole, looking at its top. A sphericist walked by and asked what they were doing.
"We're supposed to find the height of this flagpole," said a flat earther, "but we don't have a ladder."
The sphericist took a wrench from a bag, loosened a couple of bolts, and laid the pole down on the ground.
The sphericist took a tape measure from the bag, took a measurement and announced, "Twenty one feet, six inches," and walked away.
One flat earther shook his head and laughed, "Typical sphericist ! We ask for the height and the sphericist gives us the length!"

Religion is based on proven community guidelines that have preserved successful culture for thousands of years. Also, just to be clear. There are literally hundreds of thousands of historic records of the existence of Jesus Christ. Was he God in the form of a human? Who knows, but everybody alive at the time certainly seemed to think so. Ask yourself this... What year is it? That should give you a little more perspective on the cultural importance of religion.

@@rayzimmermin First of all, please consider using punctuation in your writing. Second, I am not entirely sure what you are trying to prove here. I don't think he misunderstood the experiment at all. To me, it seems like he was generalizing, giving the most straightforward answer possible so people could understand easily. As you said, almost everyone knows about air resistance. So obviously that would affect the experiment. But the baseline thing he was trying to explain is that you still gain the momentum, but he never said other forces cannot affect that momentum. He was generalizing. And also to be fair, it's not like he was actually giving them a detailed guide on what to do, because chances are, they would ignore it completely and choose to keep believing what they believe anyway.
The model of a pickup truck is purely a visualization in which the environment is perfect, such as him adding that the truck needs to stay at the exact same speed the entire time. Of course other phenomenon happen, but it's not worth going through them if it isn't needed. Air resistance doesn't directly refute the overall point he was making.
And as I was saying, I don't understand what 'side' you are taking? You are nitpicking at one little detail that isn't hard to explain. The majority of people don't see something that someone missed or didn't mention and immediately attribute that to the person not understanding the concept of said thing. It is much more likely that he knows about it, and he just didn't mention it for the purpose of simplicity.
Hope that makes sense? Sorry if I seemed rude throughout this explanation.

Without this, it won't emit an electromagnetic field. This field would deflect solar radiation and protect the gaseous atmosphere. In the absence of a strong magnetic field, there is no protection for the gaseous atmosphere. Which is why it has very little atmosphere.

One argument from flat earthers that I don’t understand (among many others) is how they say it’s in fathomable that the earth is traveling through the galaxy at thousands of miles per hour, yet they claim gravity comes from the earth accelerating upwards at 9.8 m/s^2. If this were really the case, then the earth would be traveling through space A LOT faster than a few thousand miles per hour. I guess they just don’t understand what accelerating at a constant rate does to velocity.

One question I always have about these flat earth "here's how it could work if the sun moved THIS way" models is that they never explain WHY the sun moves that way, just that it HAS to if the Earth is flat. Nevermind everything else wrong with this model, I guess it all works because the sun just....DECIDES to act in a way that would simulate (or maybe imitate) a gravitational, heliocentric, spherical Earth model. And it does it so perfectly that we were mathematically able to predict it with such precision as to apparently incorrectly conclude that the Earth is not flat. When in reality, the sun and moon are tied to...I don't know...a giant invisible space ceiling fan that spins them around.

This is obvious like with the flathearther, who built a rocket and died in a crash accident with that vehicle of his...but also recently due to the pandemic some famous flatearthers died due to covid because they denied medical science & help. When it comes to such madness I usually get aware why humanity fights senseless wars or why racism or antisemitism caused horrors and pogromes. Humans are just genuinely convinced to be always right and righteous to such a degree they even die senseless deaths or drag others into their own hubris & caused tragedies.
