yes very sad Isn't it that other countries around the world can keep and have thier culture from the past, present and into the future. But not us! no! We are slowly being changed by our governments and we have had no say in this at all whatso ever. We were and still are very laid back people but also are told in the same breath that we are racists and need to accept all the 40 different cultures now setting up shop in our country go figure? I am a dying breed and culture in my own country very sad very very sad!

What you've got to remember about this lap was that Brock had to pass a number of lapped cars. It wasn't as if it was a shootout lap with no other cars on track. This was a true show of just how good Peter Brock was as a driver and how good the Holden Dealer Team were at building race winning cars.

Brocky is the best driver Australia has ever seen.Without him there would never have been V8 supercars as we know it.The Phase 3 made Allan Moffat but Peter Brock made GMH and Bathurst what it is .Purely my 2 cents and absolute respect from a Ford dude.

End of the day there was nothing in it when it came to the top guys, grice, Johnson, brock, Moffat all just as good as each other and that’s what made Bathurst, the tight competition is what pushed all of the top guys to go so hard, when brock and Johnson were both in sierras their lap times were basically identical, like a second difference, that’s one small mistake on a big track, of course brock will always be known as the king of the mountain but without the competition he had from those other guys he wouldn’t have pushed himself so hard, respect to all of those top ten drivers from every generation, balls of steel without a doubt.

Not just Brock, motor racing in general has been less entertaining to watch gradually since 80s.
There will never be such raw traction and ride issues that require freak drivers just to keep at speed..
Now all these motorsports, cars are less animated, grippy and smooth...not as fun to watch.

For my mind, that driver, in that car, in that race, cemented Brock the greatest driver of all time and the A9X Hatch as Australia's greatest muscle car. Held at Mt. Peterama in Brocktober, the car top qualified for pole, then led the race from start to finish and WON BY 6 LAPS !!!. If that wasn't enough, Brock smashed the lap record on the last lap while he had his arm out the window waving to the crowd............Game Over..........

a driver with a God-gifted talent for driving hard, fast & was a gentleman on the track.
In today's format of tin-top racing ( V8 Supercars ), there will never again be a 6 lap lead or a car leading every lap from start to finish as all the cars in the field have identical mechanicals. It will have to take something special for this to happen again.

To do this after 1000 km of racing (the race back then actually ran just over 1006 km) in a production based car with basically just a few 'go fast' bits bolted on, a very minimal roll cage and slick tyres that were at least 40 laps old was a hell of an effort. Who else would have have the audacity to do this and get away with it? Moff would have been nursing his Falcon if he was leading, Gricey and Dick maybe. But only Brocky did :-)
