I miss Greg on this channel, I hope he's doing alright. Hang in there man, hope to see you on CZcams again!
What happened to him?
@@Haywood-Jablomie he quit the show as he was struggling with depression and was very open about it. I've barely watched since he left just so weird having a different guy.
@@ASeasonInSidewinder oh wow, I had no idea. I really hope he feels better and gets over it because the show is so weird without him. thank you so much for letting me know and I hope there's a way to reach out to him to let him know that we care
The other guy is ok
He has a short part in the "Justice League" episode (with a long beard)!
"Scorpion is NOT into butt stuff!"
-Scorpion, 2016
I dont even need to watch the video. I remember something everyone else obviously forgot. Sega does what super Nintendo dont! So that means Sega obviously does butt stuff! Bam drops mic!
That missing song at 13:22 isn't actually missing in the Genesis version. It's used as the character select screen theme, just down two octaves and shortened to a loop.
I'm not really a SNES fanboy, but this one was a no-contest
@bee boo The Nomad was AWESOME it's a portable Sega Genesis sure the screen is and the battery life is crappy but it's still AWESOME
I’m not really a genesis fanboy
Sega God The nomad wasn’t awesome bruh, it was shitty and it was nothing but a portable genesis.
bee boo I have played every Nintendo system except for the color tv play 7
@bee boo I wouldn't go as far as saying that Sega has 0 business making MK games on two levels. 1. They didn't make it. Probe was responsible for porting it. 2. The 32X version did everything the SNES version did and more. Also, the original MK on the genesis smashed the SNES version in sales in big part due to it being the only version that kept blood and full fatalities intact. I grew up with Nintendo products as a kid and had friends who had Sega Genesis's. I think both are good in their own regard; because Sega released the Genesis a few years before the SNES, and it's schedule was very different than all of the console manufacturers at the time. For what the Genesis lacked in tech, it made up for fairly well, and while it may not have been up to par with some SNES games, Sega's versions were still very impressive and had that "Sega" feel to it. Something that can't be translated today, you'd have to be alive during the time to understand what it meant because back then, consoles weren't just iterations of the same thing. They had entirely different video, sound and input setups in comparison to the cookie cutter layout that's been used since the SNES. Both are respectable as consoles at the time. Each had it's pros and cons.
14:14. That’s funny. I was playing this game on Sega the other day and thought something was wrong because I didn’t hear the same sound effects I’m used to hearing on the Super Nintendo version.
SNES had double the RAM of Genesis. That alone was one of the biggest factors why many ports had more details to show. If you add to that the color pallete most games had better color presentation as well. SNES was a beast.
@Mariano González Would you prefer a way better color representation and more details to be shown on screen or faster processor ? SNES had better arcade ports for that reason. Check Mortal kombat, mortal komba 2 , street fighter 2 etc graphics
@@AzatisSTBH the 2x RAM is because the SNES came out in 1990 and Genesis in 1988 so Nintendo had 2 years to find out a way to improve the console
@@NinjaCacodemon_IsSus incorrect. The SNES was designed to be an incomplete motherboard where the cartridges provided the extra RAM, graphics, and full integrated use of the Sony S-SMP sound chip on the system. This allowed the SNES to upgrade itself without having to buy hideous and overpriced add-ons.
Regardless of the (very small) two year difference between the release dates, the Genesis was already obsolete when it came out because of an even older 16-bit system: the TurboGrafx-16, which was superior as well. Sega rushed the Genesis out to get a head start on Nintendo, which history has already proven was a massive mistake.
@@XX2MediaGenesis has a lot of games that are far better than any TG16 games. Obsolete my a$$.
I actually really liked the scorpion guy
He'll probably be back.
Scorpion is not into butt stuff lol
Scorpion is hungry
And tired
I actually liked Greg 🥺
This is by far my favorite Console Wars yet, and one of my favorite videos I've seen on CZcams. Scorpion was hilarious.
The music that you guys said Sega is missing from the spike stage is used for the fighter select screen although the music is shortened and sounds a little different. The music that is missing on Sega is actually the original fighter select music.
The Genesis did the music better than the SNES because Matt Furniss is a God when it comes to using FM synth. SNES had a muffled sound which never stuck with me as much as the crisper twangy sound of the Genesis. It also has a much more menacing and evil feel to it.
For those who grew up when this came out we all knew what version was the best, SNES and it wasn't even close.
Snes was better but it was closer than you think, if the Sega version had the missing content in, and better colours it would be pretty much identical apart from personal taste, for me I played the 32x version the most which just really missed out some Shao Kahn samples and death animation.
it was very close and the sega cd version slams the snes version
What it was actually pretty close tbh btw the character sprites on snes look terrible.
@@ricki399 mk2 was not released on sega cd. Your thinking about the 32x version.
@@tiradouken2854 yeah probably
I'm loving all the subtle Simpsons references in all these episodes.
We can't help it sometimes.
Console Wars never stop!
When?
As I'm a huge SNES fan I normally disagree with Dan(even if he's right) out of bias but his points about the sega versions music were spot on and I can't argue it.
Have you watched an ARCADE/SNES/GENESIS comparison video yet. I bet you'd change your mind.
@@gozinta82 The SNES version had terrible muffled audio.
@@gozinta82 Genesis original tracks were even better and scarier than the arcade to me. Mind not changed lol
The voices in mortal Kombat 2 are pixelated while the SNES version is a better clear
Sorry, Sega fanboys the SNES version definitely blew the Genesis out of the water on this one. It simply was no contest.
This episode will be forever remembered, not for which console won, but for scorpions position on butt stuff. No line has ever been delivered so perfectly. I laughed so hard.
'They beg for mercy but receive none' looooooooooooooool
The SNES version of MK II wins, hands down.
32x is better
It's not a fair contest with the 32x and the Super Nintendo because the 32x is an add-on rather than its own console like the Super Nintendo I mean yeah the Sega Neptune did exist but that doesn't count because it never released.
@@frenchtoast4365 Isn't that 32 bit though?
Mortal Kombat II was a game changer back then. I remember some of my friends selling their Genesis after playing MKII on SNES.
Hey guys. We used a new microphone for the voiceovers.
Is it too loud? Is it too quiet?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
kinda loud but its fine guys....Great episode tho!!
thank you guys I owe you a lot for putting me in your video just for requesting I know this means a lot to me sorry but thank you
It sounds fine, just keep on keepen on.
Sounds good, my master volume is at a comfortable 25%. :)
I think it sounds better if anything, not worse at all.
I’ll never forget pre-ordering this game in high school for my Sega Genesis and when I got it I thought it was broken. No character sounds or voices and the graphics just didn’t compare to my buddies super Nintendo version. There was no arguing Mortal Kombat two on the super Nintendo was far superb. At that moment I sold my Genesis to Funko land and bought a super Nintendo
Nice channel!
Another great episode guys! Scorpion was pretty hilarious!
It was originally going to be Reptile. I think we made the right choice in the end.
+Console Wars Hell yeah man! Reptile is cool, but Scorpion is from Hell, so he is way cooler and evil. That makes it funnier! Definately the best choice!
Can't argue here, the SNES version blows the Genesis out of the water...though like make here I prefer the Genesis pad for fighting games. We came to many of the same conclusions when we went through the MK games.
Great vid as always boys
***** yup, never cared for shoulder buttons with a fighting game, not responsive enough imo
Thankfully, there are now hacks to vastly improve the Genesis version: MK II Unlimited brings over a lot of the arcade presentation, with bios, vs screens, intro and outros along with playable bosses and a ton of other changes, a lot of which are optional, and there is a color hack to improve the graphics.
Yeah, I can definitely say that playing the genesis versions of the MK games had their own feel, and if one was able to play it on the 6 button, it was really good for it's input speed. I had the SNES version and I was pretty used to the setup due to having SF II: Turbo, but it was still a slight more sluggish than the Genesis as far as input reaction if I remember correctly. Each one had their pros and cons :)
Genesis controls on the 6 button are better. I pulled off the moves with ease.
I loved scorpion in this video! good job!
Thanks!
There’s absolutely no comparison. Probe did a horrendous job with this game on the Genesis. It’s unforgivably bad.
Sculptured knocked it out of the park on SNES. Just absolutely crushed it!!
You know it's interesting how the 32X version of MK2 addressed many of the Genesis version's issues. Needless to say, the SNES did a really good job, music aside. Great video once again :)
EDIT: Now there is a What's the difference on the 32X version. YAY! :)
Everyone keeps bringing up the 32X version. Looks like I gotta play that version.
Not really.. The snes is as good as the 32x not much difference. Not worth burying another console for a game that's about the same. Do sparkster bs rocket knight
*****
Like throwing in the TG16 version of SF2 :)
Console Wars do 32x MK 2 vs defending champion SNES MK 2 👏?
It is worth it (but Super Nintendo is still better in my opinion) & actually buying the Sega 32X was worth it, primarily for the game.
There are a few improvements over Sega Genesis, but not a whole lot (especially music wise).
I do also have Sega CD (which like Sega 32X wasn't cheap & had to be ordered online) which has it's own version of Mortal Kombat 1 that's even bloodier than even the original Arcade game.
Great episode! Finally we got our revenge for the Mortal Kombat 1 episode XD.
Just one thing, you forgot to mention that the characters winning pose on Sega are not complete (Johnny Cage, Kitana and Baraka for example), so another point for Nintendo in graphics
This is the first video I have seen on this CZcams channel. I already enjoy the content and have subbed. Great video guys. MKII on Sega was hands down the most played game i had when I was a kid. Me and my cousin played for hours. As much as the SNES version was, I still have many fond memories with the genesis version. Thank u for the video, it was nostalgic at its fullest hahah :)
Glad you enjoyed it!
+Console Wars I really did. I have been watching ur older content and enjoyed all ur videos. This is one of my favorite concepts when it comes to game reviews. The details are spot on. :)
"So yes, twisting is good!"
How about Jurassic Park 2: The Chaos Continues on SNES vs Jurassic Park: Rampage Edition on Genesis.
Good idea, i loved Rampage edition on genesis!
YES! I've been saying this for a long time. So glad to see someone agrees!
I never beat JP2 SNES. So freaking difficult
Why ?
Not the same game.
@Mr Zilla - I like your name
Been waiting on more videos you guys are awesome.
The Kombat Tomb stage from the arcade version IS in the Genesis version - on the character select screen
I got an interesting one:
Mega Man 7 (SNES) vs Mega Man: The Wily Wars (Genesis)
Even though I really like Wily Wars, 7 rxpes Wily Wars
Doesn't even make sense to compare a remaster of 3 NES games to an original entry.
I Would Say Super Mario All Stars VS Megaman The Wily Wars Would Be A Better Matchup.
@Anthony Cook Yeah Especially The Wily Wars Has Issues.
First 3 mega man games for nes, and Mega man the wily wars for genesis
Finally!! Love this show and need more of it.
MK3 review needs Subzero as well. Great episode!
Yeah, we def gotta bring in more characters for that one.
Dan you guys are doing great man I'm glad you stick with it and keep making videos we all appreciate it this is a awesome video game channel. Criminally underrated you should be in the millions. Us sweet bros from jersey have that charisma lol
Surprised you didn't touch on the colors, the awesome Shang Tsung glitches in the SNES version, as well as graphical capabilities of the SNES, such as the viscera staying onscreen, the win poses being fully animated on SNES. You also could have touched on more of the controls and how tight the games feel. Wasted that opportunity on cheats...but still pretty entertaining
This episode is one of the funniest I've seen in a while. Keep up the good work! :D
Glad you think so. Worked hard on the script and did 3 rewrites.
another great video, was good to come home after a tiring work shift to watch you guys, also congrats on hitting 13k
Thank you!
Console Wars Pitfighter
yea, snes pit fighter is an abomination. no need to do the video, genesis wins that easy
Wow been waiting for a long time for you guys to release more videos. Love it, please keep it up!
Working on the new one now.
I disagree MK 2 goes to Nintendo
Part for sounds . I prefer sega sounds MK 2 and that's sounds is intense just like arcade . But you guys forget that scorpion said get over here thing . He didn't said that on snes but he did on sega .😂
FOR NOT CRYING YOU GET A LOLLIPOP!!! ( that cracked me up)
Another masterpiece in the bag! Great video guys!
The back and forth banter in these videos is really good, I love the vibe
I was expecting a clean sweep for the SNES and I was right. Excellent arcade port! I remember having the day off from school and picking this one up along with Maximum Carnage, both for SNES, cuz they were released on the same day. Great memories!
Awesome video, guys! And what a bummer that Scorpion isn't into "butt stuff".....
I know, Scorpion doesn't know how to party.
@@ConsoleWars 13:22 They Forgot That Ben 10 Sounding Like Song 😱😱😱😱
Realistically this in Mortal Kombat three are probably some of the best fighting games ever made. Such a fun time to be a fan I also love the maximum carnage
@@miamimagicians MK2 on SNES in my favourite Mortal Kombat 2, such a masterpiece. It's even much better than all the 32bit ports with their broken gameplay, missing and wrong SFX/music and awful loading times. 32X port is on second place, it's just an slightly improvement of the Genesis version and still not as good as the SNES port.
Finally!!!!! A video with reasonable guys with good argument showing all the evidences. People in Brazil always say Genesis version is better, mocking me for defending Snes version. I always knew the Snes version was better and this videos proves it. Thanks, guys.
A versão do SNES era tão superior que em Brasilia ela chegou a custar o mesmo preço de um Mega Drive usado. Meu amigo quase vendeu o mega dele para comprar o MKII de SNES. O pai dele é quem não deixou.
Because the genesis version is better.
@josh loukianoff genesis has good music for me it can be tie but sound effects are better on snes sure many things are better on snes but genesis was close on gameplay until the best cheat code on snes was said only for snes but what am i waiting is ultimate mk3 console wars beacuse that was the best genesis mk port ever made so that can be a tough one
Ask them which company is still making consoles and which one is asking for kickstarters to fund new games and letting fans release their own fan made games......the latter, I'd assume is a company that's damn near broke in comparison to the other....
That's the only console they have over there till this day
These videos are a light upon my life. I had forgotten about this video kind of.
I agree with the verdict, but I'll always have a soft spot for the Genesis version, it's the version I grew up with, and that Matt Furniss soundtrack is awesome, I don't care what anyone says.
I grew up with the Genesis version too, but had to give it to the SNES this time.
I agree the SNES version is superior, I'm just speaking out of nostalgia.
dennisbergkamp17 you know if it wasn't for nostalgia I don't think any of us would have anything to look forward to
Actually, Im glad, that Sega doen´t have the Liu Kang sounds ^^ . The musicial quality, the basses, are more suitable to MK 2 in my opinion.
Overall, coming to presentation, I agree with SNES´ victory. But for me, music is more important and Sega also did a better job with the sound effects, they´ve put in, so.. I´ll stick with Sega :) . Also the controller is better for fighting games.
Snes has to win sometimes!
When this first came out in arcades had lines around the block.
I forgot how awesome the snes version of MK was ! Thanks for the memories! U guys rock!
Thanks! We're all about nostalgia here.
I love this channel. You guys crack me up!
Glad you enjoy it!
I don't blame them. MKII + SNES = WIN
@Trav D your wrong
32x is better
I knew SNES was gonna win. Good luck with the next episode.
Men I surery prefer control over graphics... Genesis d-pad it's the real deal, this two only focus on sound and colours, I like them, I want them to be friends of mine even, but I cannot understand the major part of their veredicts... Sry 4 my english btw.
Imakaze First, Sega's controller is normally a 3 button layout. No matter how you feel about the D-Pad, that is going to be a factor. With it being default even if you have a 6 button made playing the game perfectly tedious to do each time you turn it on.
Add to that a game mode that can increase playing time, SNES was the superior version.
Imakaze
Play Streetfighter 2 on Genesis and do about 30 fireballs.
Now, how does your thumb hurts ?
No problem with Snes soft d-pad. I played Killer Instinct for countless hours without any pain.
Mortal Kombat 1 was better on the Genesis though and had the code to activate blood and gore.
edstar83, Mortal Kombat looked, played, and sounded like total ass on the Genesis
I agree with the verdict, but seriously, the Genesis D-pad and 6-button controller is the second best controller ever made for 2D games. The first one being the Saturn model 2 D-pad
They really aren't.
Ruby Williams Anti UTTP
Nah, the design sega made is still used by professional fighting game players in 2016. No one who is serious about fighting games uses the SNES controller
+Gonçalo Tordo this is very true, it is more responsive, precise, and allows you to "comfortably" play for a long period of time.
honestly, the fact you use a PS4 controller for fighters already disqualifies anything you have to say regarding controller quality.
That's easy to pull off on the Saturn and Genesis pad. It's not my fault you're used to terrible controllers. I mean the PS4 controller? Really?
Soundtrack and sound effects should almost be separate categories though. Sega's music was almost always better, but Nintendo was great with voice overs and effects
4:30 AWESOME I still have that Rock n Roll Raph action figure! Great Job guys! I truly enjoy, not only your edits, but all the hard work you put in! You're vids definitely motivate me to continue upping my vlogs n' putting out funny, interesting and Quality edits!
Keep up the Awesome Work! Thanks!
10:54 The soundtrack definitely goes to mega drive/genesis
True
I would say that the SNES is closer to the original arcade version, while the Sega gives a certain flavor or feel to the songs. Both are good. I know I didn't complain about the sega music when I played it at my friends house at launch :).
Yeah how the hell can they prefer those shitty tin can drums on the Snes to the Mega Drive's raw sound of a real drum kit?
@@gozinta82 I think that if they ever decided to remaster MK2 that it would make more sense to combine both tracks from SNES & Genesis (MD) into it
@@pflynn12I know you were not adressing me but I agree the winner should be the Snes version as the graphics, all voice samples added and overall presentation the Snes version has, but music and gameplay should have gone to the Mega Drive/Genesis. The fact that the music in the Mega Drive/Genesis version you can tap your foot to and it still has that serious, dark tone to it is brilliant! I'll pick a raw marching snare drum of death over a shitty, compressed Sony drum machine anyday.
such a great episode, one of my favs so far...wishing the best of luck for scorpion's job hunt lol
Glad you enjoyed it!
Console Wars...stop kicking so much ass with these excellent vids!
Glad you enjoy them.
I lost it with "get OVER HERE.....and let me treat you". you bros are fun.
Apple cores and Chinese newspapers simpsons reference. Nice!
my favorite episode so far
Mortal Kombat II of Super Nintendo crushes the Mortal Kombat II version of Mega Drive
Retrono I use play both, yeah SNES wins. Genesis version has slower gameplay and no commentator.
Petroshock Pictures Yeah, I notice it. But I used to play Mortal Kombat 2 PAL version. The PAL version is slower than Super Nintendo and Genesis version. Last week I played MK2 on third party Sega Genesis, the gameplay were faster than PAL version.
Dont make me laugh!
Not in the music department and textures
Keep up the great videos guys! you deserve more subs
Death From Above 1979 album in the background, nice!
You guys mentioned animation being equal, not quite. Johny Cage and Baraka's win poses on the Genesis version are both incomplete, Baraka stays bowed Johnny Cage keeps his arms in the air instead of crossing them. 32X version for some reason didn't fix this, quite inexcusable on Probe's part.
I noticed that as well and it appears more that Probe was lazy as opposed to what could have been done with the 32x and Genesis versions. Good evidence of that is when Sculptured software took on making both the Genesis and Snes versions.
@bee boo When there is money to be made, they will go after it. That is why there are gameboy and gamegear versions of these fighting games. You're probably right, if the hardware isn't good enough, don't try.
They only restored barakas win animations.
PROBE blew it 3 times if you ever played the Saturn Version. The graphics were close to arcade Perfect. The game was still missing round and Character announcements believe it or not..I was thankful Sculptured took over for Genesis for part 3 which was more acurate to arcade on Genesis. Probe almost would get a pass for making Alien 3 on gen,and Die Hard Trilogy. I still really hate that they were so lackluster doing the genesis MK games and then with 2 more console failed attempts for part II after the genesis. It s inexcusable ..
There is nothing wrong with Baraka pose in genesis I like it!
Your videos awesome they take me back to the best time of my life, I had some dark times in my life but when I'm playing my mega drive which gave me good fun and great times to remember which help me at me at times as a kid in those dark times
found your channel thru a a shoutout from snes drunk and have seen about 10 since yesterday, good stuff!
Nice! Welcome to the channel. SNES Drunk is awesome.
I was lucky to own both of these versions as a kiddo. The SNES version was superior, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't like the Genesis version music better. Great video, CW. :)
" Scorpio, Scorpio, Scorpio....... Scorpio, Scorpio, Scorpio " !
Translation : I loved this review ! Keep it up guys ! c:
Thanks! We will!
SCORPION! SCORPION! SCORPION! SCORPION! LOL The whole Scorpion enunciation actually makes the whole episode!
The Baraka winning pose animation is cut short on Genesis version. Among several other things. The MK2 game on snes is better in almost every area, audio, color, ect.
Console Wars, are u guys gonna produce a comparison video of Mortal Kombat 3 or it's the same similaries for MK II???
At that point the PlayStation was out and MK3 played pretty much spot on to the arcade whereas the SN, while being a good port, had trouble with things like multiple floors on levels - the arcade and PSX scrolled between them but on SN they had to fade to black and then fade into the next floor as a whole new screen as it just couldn't do it. The Genesis version doesn't hold a candle to the SN version IMO... but to not include PSX at that point would be har5d to do and it was so much better there's really nothing to compare.
Mortal Kombat 3 for the Genesis is the only Mortal Kombat done right. It looks, plays, and sounds far better on the Genesis. You can see the Genesis doing what it was made for.
@@Sinn0100 not really. MK 2 on Genesis is a great port. Yeah it's missing some voices and the Character select screen could look a little better, but it plays really well. The controls are spot on, most sound effects sound better than the SNES version,(Baraka's chopping blades for one example), and the Genesis version's music is just awesome and creepy in It's own right. The animations are great on Genesis too. They got it right for that game as well. MK 1 wasn't perfect but it still controlled well and had the original blood and fatalities at least. SNES MK1 is a sick joke.
Mortal Kombat two and three both on the super Nintendo and Sega Genesis are fantastic games
@@80s_Gamr They should do *ULTIMATE* Mortal Kombat 3 on the SNES & Genesis. MK 3 by itself was a weak game in comparison, and the SNES & Genesis versions both had additional content not in the Saturn & Arcade versions that made them stand out.
Justice League Task Force snes vs genesis.
Great vid, keep em coming !
we need a battletoads console wars :D
I love this episode by the way! I went back and watched Mortal Kombat 1 and watching the gummy worms and marshmellows and almond joys punched out em was by far the most hysterical thing I've seen in youtube in a good while :D
Glad that old episode is still good.
I played both versions of this game extensively back in the day and they are pretty much the same. That 4-on-4 elimination mode on SNES is hella fun though!
Agreed, i think each one has it's charm to it. Both are very fun and when everyone was growing up at that time, most people didn't care because they were still playing MKII.
Def wasn't the same, the SNES version was much more like the Arcade version... Music, sound effects, graphics, no comparison my friend
I knew Mortal Kombat 2 was better for Nintendo since 1993 LOL
You guys have been extremely helpful in my building my collection. Thank you!
Very awesome guys. Love your work.

great video, But this scene "7:01-7:12 " is why i'm subscribing. that was hilarious. "Scorpion likes twisting" LOL

Excellent episode and also very funny!!! :)
We try to entertain.
this episode was awesome
The music on the SNES version sounds like they are rocking out in my kitchen.

Great job, guys!
Genesis really has that 80's synth movie soundtrack sound, for whatever that's worth....
No sir, I don't like it...
One of my top 10 Console Wars episodes. Can I recommend MK Trilogy Sega Saturn vs Nintendo 64 ? Can't wait for a 4th MK Console Wars if possible.
Good follow up guys, can't wait for Ultimate MK 3. Until next time.

Glad you enjoyed it!
Step up your game guys. Do Mortal Kombat Trilogy: Saturn VS N64
First time catching this channel but that Death From Above 1979 vinyl got me subscribing
Also they should compare Unlimited Mortal Kombat 2 for Sega against SNES MK2. MK2 Unlimited has all the voice overs that are actually well done. Also you can select the bosses and hidden characters.
