    To all you haters saying oh hot air intake clearly no nothing about engines and must have heard someone say it once and thought it sounded cool.
    wrong.A turbos job is to compress air and a turbo is sucking in air whether its hot or cold and it is compressing it chucking it through the intercooler and dumping it into the inlet manifold, Now correct me if i'm wrong but when you compress air (inside the turbo) it gets hot, so to solve this issue every car that is turbo charged is fitted with an inter-cooler for this reason to cool down said compressed air from the turbo. even if you had ice cold air coming through the filter it'll get hot in the turbo anyway thats why we have intercoolers. Thanks

    • @samjtripp
      @samjtripp Před 4 lety +4

      Hey, your slightly off. Basically hot air is less dense that cold air. So colder air, means your engine is actually getting more oxygen, yes it warms up as well, but basically the colder your air, the higher the density of oxygen you will get. In hot weather/ hotter air going in, you get the same volume of air, but it has less oxygen so engine makes less power. Hope this makes sense. Basically, the colder the air entering the engine, the more oxygen you engine can get

    • @dfct1775
      @dfct1775  Před 7 lety +1

      It turns out the diverter valve was broken, it is now fixed and makes a continuous blow off noise

    • @BluTrollPro
      @BluTrollPro Před 7 lety

      Haha that diverter valve should be the first mod done to every one of these. The stock diaphram leaks boost like a sieve, Forge do a really nice alloy pot valve which is a far better unit. They also have the atmo vent if you are into that kind of thing, personally I'd find it more annoying than anything else.
      I am planning some mods for mine, already got the diverter done. I am fabricating some alloy boost pipes for myself (forges £160 is bloody excessive, but they look awesome in this engine bay). I'm not getting the short ram air intake you have but I am going for a K&N panel filter since it rains all the time where I live & a ram/CAI would end up killing it. Fabricating myself a decat pipe with lambda elbow & hoping to get a remap done after that.
      No exterior mods planned, thinking about a set of 18" wheels and/or lowering it but the roads in my country are shit and everyone I know who runs lowering springs pops their shocks on a regular basis :D.

    • @dfct1775
      @dfct1775  Před 7 lety

      Yeah where I live it's really hot in the summer so I'm surprised the valve lasted as long as it did, I was planning on getting a GFB diverter but it was fixed under warranty so it can wait. Your planned mods sound awesome, pretty much what I'm going to do but I don't have the metal fab skills so I'll have to buy them. How does your diverter sound with the stock intake? Because mine was silent until I got the forge unit.

    • @BluTrollPro
      @BluTrollPro Před 7 lety

      DFCT
      It's pretty quiet, the only difference noise wise between the forge diverter valve and the stock is the forge makes a rather loud solenoid click when it is acuated, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference with the bonnet shut. I'm hoping a more free breathing panel filter will add some noise, really would rather not go for a pod filter. The roads I commute on flood all the time, last thing I need is a lower intake.
      EDIT: I should mention, I have the recirculating diverter from forge. They also offer an atmospheric vent for the same price which will produce a very audible noise when the turbo dumps, however will also increase turbo lag very slightly in some scenarios.

    could someone tell me what is the specificity of this dump valve to make this noise instead of a simple hissing because I want to get the same sound and not just a hissing banal like any dump valve ?

    • @Dragoneer
      @Dragoneer Před 5 lety +1

      Well first, off the bat, diesels are fitted with a wastegate instead, which reroutes exhaust gasses back into the exhaust manifold (or in rare cases, back into the atmosphere). A BOV is irrelevant, as diesels do not have a throttlebody, therefor there will be no backpressure as you would expect to have against a throttle plate in a gasoline engine.
      These 1.6 HDi engines are fitted with Garret VGTs (or VNTs, if you’re being particular), which essentially mean they can dynamically change the internal area of the exhaust part i.e. the air pressure, in effect; a wastegate is required to divert this built up air off throttle. That clears that up.
      Secondly, that fluttering sound is due to a blockage/fault in the EGR valve system, which causes a build up in air pressure. The EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) is designed to reroute air back into the cylinders off-throttle; the chatter sound is the air back-surging across the exhaust turbine, as it has nowhere else to go now. This is generally not what you want when turning a turbocharged engine, as it puts lateral stress on the bearings, and will cause premature turbo failure. It also causes the turbo to slow or stall, reducing throttle response, and making turbo lag more prevalent as the turbo has to spin back up to speed when you open the throttle again. Essentially, you’d be pretty stupid doing this with a small turbo like the one used in an Hdi lol.
      If you did not know about any of this beforehand, I highly suggest not even going near your engine, as you will end up a very unhappy chappy when you break a vital part like your turbine vanes, you fool...

      please educate yourself on compressor surge before commenting that the turbo is "on its way out". just because a turbo surges doesn't mean it is damaged. most turbo cars will surge even with a working BOV if given given boost at low RPM. Also considering that the filter is right behind the air inlets, when driving intake temp would be fine. Thats besides the point, maybe he fkn wants it sound cool and look cool without aiming for peak performance. You would need a tune to realise any gains on a turbo car anyway...
