I always enjoy a Dr Klaper interview - he's so calm and reassuring in his argument for a plant-based diet. I have been plant-based for a few years now but raising kids vegan requires confidence in your decision - as you discussed there is so much noise out there adding doubt about the plant based diet but whenever i listen to a Dr Klaper interview i feel reassured once more! That line where he said something like "the more dairy and cheese a young boy eats the more chance he has of developing prostate cancer as an adult" just puts it out there so clear and simple....thanks Ellen.

I will watch this excellent interview a number of times.
I have been vegan for 7 years and now raw vegan for going on 3 months and I feel fantastic! I went vegan to heal from hashimoto's, fatty liver, gallbladder and pancreatitis and now going raw vegan is a game changer again!
I feel like maybe (from personal experience) fast food is more out of convenience and if you’re always on the go and don’t make time to prepare meals, lessens the clean up in the kitchen also but in reality fast food outings are actually pretty expensive and add up quick! We just need to find time to go grocery shopping and make time to prepare the meals (easier said than done but POSSIBLE) Invest in your body, your health, your well being, you only get one 🫶🏼 we can do this!
I agree with what you said. Unhealthy fast food is definitely more expensive but for sure more convenient in a fast paced world with busy families… preparing and cleaning up is work. So preparing meals ahead of time is KEY to being successful 💕

I have been going on and off plant base for so long. He hits home when we know, that we shouldn’t be eating fast food but its cheaper and quicker. I am attempting a different direction (mindset) this time around.. while eating all plantbase and oil free. Crazy that i have so many weird issues for being young still. Love this and all you put out their. ❤❤❤❤
Have you looked into processed foods and meats, seed/toxic oils and sugary foods? Start there.

I'd also like to mention even doctors are hella uneducated when it comes to plant based diets because when I told my doctor I was vegitarian that was leaning towards vegan seeing I already cut out milk completely she flipped a lid and gave me a giant lecture about how unhealthy a vegan diet is and that I need meat to survive even though I've gone 3 years without meat already

I was vegan for about a year and a half and loved how ut made my bidy feel. I since developed a few allergies making getting eniugh protein more challenging. I have allergies to latex and foods with those proteins like avocado, banana, kiwi etc. This inspires me to consider other ways to get eniugh quality fats proteins and things

And yes about the quantity! You can eat so much more when it's good stuff. When I make food for my mum she is always saying "oh that's too much for me" I have to remind her that when she eats eggs on toast for breaky or a dinner with meat, the calories would be so much higher than a "same size" fish of fruit or veg!
Ellen I have enjoyed every podcast, they keep improving over time and this is one of your best! I am impressed with your insight and passion on the subject matter. As a 20+ year vegan, I agree with Dr. Klaper. It would be great to have a presenter that opposes our vegan diet and hear their opposing mainstream viewpoint as well.
Please do one with him on calcium. His speech on this subject is available online but it's very bad quality and it's such an important subject 🙏
I feel like he didn't answer the sugar feeding cancer question well. He said high blood sugar is associated with cancer, not sugar and as many of us know, high blood sugar is usually due to clogged insulin receptors. Also, he mentioned how a little maple syrup in the coffee isn't going to be a huge issue, but that donut will be. But donuts are not JUST sugar. Do we have a study that shows JUST sugar and how that's associated with cancer?
This was fantastic!!! As an oncology nurse I find this so so relevant! Question, thoughts on roasting veggies? Does the roasting process produce the same carcinogenic effect as charring/roasting meat? I think steaming may be the way to go!

No veggies will not create heterocyclic amines . How ever very burnt chard will create benzopyrene which is another carcinogen but mild roasting is perfectly fine
When he says "a high protein diet can stimulate ITF1 production", is that only with a meat based diet- or high vegan protein diets as well? Great, helpful and informative interview!
From what I gathered listening to another of these doctors
Pam Popper, Milton Mills, Garth Davis etc is yes even a high protein vegan diet can but not to the same extreme. However they never list how many grams would be considered a high protein diet
IGF1 is really only stimulated by animal products including dairy, and a little by highly processed isolated soy proteins (not natural whole soy).
Rip Esselstyn had a video out saying that coconut isn't good and isn't a whole plant food
It is super rich in saturated fat, so I can understand why he doesn’t recommend it. Coconut can very much increase cholesterol so that is something to be mindful of.
