- A family restaurant is at odds with the City of Snohomish over its COVID-era outdoor seating area, which the city says requires a permit.
After several notices, the city has given the business a deadline of July 5 to comply with regulations before the structure must be removed.
"All we want is the city to come and inspect the tent," said Bronn Journey, co-owner of Andy's Fish House.
Journey acknowledges the lack of permit but argues the tent does meet international building code.
"It was structurally engineered and stamped by an engineer," Journey said.
Heather Thomas, the city administrator for Snohomish, told KING 5 by phone that without a permit, the restaurant is not in compliance with city requirements and international building code.

He just needs to get a attorney and whip a injunction on the city.
A permit just to have a tent up?? Oh its such a free country!! Lol
Why didn’t the city say anything during Covid?
That was the only way places could stay open during covid! Then they kept it and city complaining. Make up my mind! 😂
Clearly states he'd like someone to inspect it. How about getting off your seat in your office and go inspect it. Provide a solution should there be an issue so that it cam be resolved, provided there are issue(s).
I absolutely understand that all properties need to acquire permits before building or adding to their structure.
HOWEVER, the pandemic changed many ways that we socially distanced.
The structure is there, simply work with the owners! It looks like a lovely place to go in Snohomish and maybe someday I will have a chance to visit.
_Meanwhile, it’s stupid to be arguing about this tent when there are unauthorized tents all over Washington state!_
I get that there are tents all over, but only a few inspectors. People would be up in arms if one caught on fire and trapped everyone inside. I personally like the tents especially in less thean ideal outdoor weather and hope they can work out accommodations.
@@hottractor2456 I understand your point, but it sounds like inspectors have already been to the establishment and had they taken a little bit more time they probably could’ve checked off on that inspection! Red tape asking for this tent to be removed only to be possibly be built back seems silly in my opinion.
They didn't allow anyone to eat indoors and strong armed businesses to build things like outdoor seating. Now they want permits so they can TAKE. We need to minimize government reach everywhere because this is what they occupy themselves with instead of balancing budgets and actually improving a town, city or state.
Why don’t the city mind their own business
Money
Why didn't he check with the city before he put it up?
@@mgreg8134 He had, during the Covid19 stuff
it literally is their business. maybe they should just let the businesses do whatever they want? i'm sure that will work out fine. smh.
@@mgreg8134do u check with the city every time you do something? Why should they? Do u even think bef9re u lick a boot or support authoritarianism? In Germany people used to say "why didn't they check with The Party?" But you just say The City.
Disgusting.
My family and I know Bronn personally. They have played music together. He's going to do music for my sister's wedding in June.
Government hard at work making things harder for normal working people. Keep up the great work voters!

Really? You just can’t win. Do this, don’t do that. Ridiculous!
Sounds like this boomer thinks the rules doesn't apply to him.
I can feel no sympathy for this guy he could have checked with the city before he put it up and avoided all of these frustrations.
100%
Put it up at the beginning of Covid when they were asked to provide options for diners to help with the economy.
Most of my patients (cancer) can't go into restaurants unless they have an outdoor area to dine.
Also, Covid is not benign. With each infection it can cause Long Covid, vascular issues, and even IQ loss with mild infections, as well.
(I'm in the research sciences.)
Good for folks to have options with better ventilation.
The next 10 years will start to show this more readily.. 😢
The city is the one that started to encourage local businesses to set up tents and extended space during COVID.
@@lexxieb787 I am sure they knew it would be a temporary structure during COVID. If not the city failed on that part.
Lol😅 if you were a illegal with a truck the city would not bother you 😂. You get what you vote for.
