- Western Washington's housing crisis continues to creep through communities across the region.
Even the small seaside city of Langley is struggling with rising rents and falling vacancies.
The city of just 1,100 people is now home to Island County's first-ever tiny home village, and it's already changing lives.
A home was very elusive for the Spencer family.

It should be written into law there that vacation rental construction is halted until the residents have housing first. Those tiny houses are perfection tho.
I hope they can build more.

It's not construction home owners are getting greedy why rent to a family when u can air bnb it to tons of ppl for more money
What a wonderful resource this group is providing. I was actually in Langley yesterday and I couldn't believe how expensive everything is; providing help for low income folks like this can only help benefit this community and allow people to work and live right in town.
I would love one of these.

This is a great idea. A great many places in the PNW, and nationally, should pursue projects like this on a large scale.
Good news for the handful of folks that got into these units, they look great!
The median rent is actually less than in Everett, though availability would make it very tough to even find a place to rent. I wonder how many folks are now living in their vehicles or finding an RV to live in over on Whidbey? So many people having a hard time affording rent, and homelessness numbers are up.
Maybe we should put a bunch of these lil mini shed/trailer parks in Gig Harbor...help w affordability and all for single moms.
You mean low wage earners cant afford to live in a small island community in the Puget Sound? Big shocker. Im still crying over fact that I cant afford Maui on my pizza job earnings.
I heard native Hawaiians were getting priced out of Hawaii, too. It's not good for society to let that happen. The same here.

I wish they truly had more housing for single parents. The housing crisis amd homeless crisis is at an all time high in the United States. I have four children and i am in FL and applied for HUD housing, i waited 4-5 years, it went to two other single mothers, i didnt get any help. All they give is food stamps. And expect you to do hard labor and not help here. In Ireland, they give housing and vouchers. In South America they give vouchers and free housing as well to single mothers. I lost my dad and brother in 2016 and 2021. I am about to get a van pr live in my car amd be homeless. We used to stay in ESA hotels, the pricing went up greatly to where i couldn't afford it anymore in 2021. Section 8 waiting list is like the lottery its so hard to get picked and rewarded housing and vouchers. I unfortunately had to call my 1st sons father after him not taking care of him nor paying child support for 11 years abd he has him now because of the housing crisis. I wishh i had somebody to genuinely help us instead of turning us away and watching us suffer. Forget about fathers getting served child support here down in FL!! It is the worst state for single mothers and im not a single mom by choice! I want to move out to the Pacific Northwest and take my children and restart my business up again and my old yt channel. I want to be able to give my children and myself a good life.

30 percent of her income it's better the renting an apartment but jezz they are still asking to much with her income she could build her own or should own that tiny home within a year or 2
