Chef Daniel Patterson is best-known for his San Francisco restaurant Coi, which he opened in 2006. The restaurant was first awarded two Michelin stars only a couple years later, and this year appeared on the San Pellegrino World's 50 Best Restaurants list for the first time, debuting at number 49
Those accolades surely speak well for the restaurant, but they fail to communicate exactly how Patterson articulates his intelligence and his vision through cuisine. We spent an evening in San Francisco filming with him and were completely struck by his odd sense of humor and his ability to explain his food and the ideas behind them seamlessly. Chef Patterson forged his own path in Chef's Night Out country, taking his wife to dinner on his first stop at Corey Lee's Benu. But things loosened up when the chef and his crew dove into pastrami, gin, and an impromptu meal for 26 people. Enjoy.

"You guys are in a Munchies episode? You should be fucked up right now"
Benu's owner knows what's up.
The chef at the first restaurant nailed it "Haven't you seen this show? You should be wasted by now!".
His boring relationship with his wife was killing the vibe 😂
hes def a cuck
Wow, people are so close minded.
Apparently, it's not ok to serve food in small portions. Apparently food can't cost more than $50. Really?!
The fact is, almost anyone can cook a giant pot of food. Almost no one can do what this guy does. It takes years of hard work and sacrifice to achieve that level of skill and that kind of reputation.
Sure, people shouldn't eat like that every day, but one or twice a year? I'd pay $100 to enjoy something really special.
+Thomas Hasler yeah the food was amazing but the episode was boring...
it will be a lot more than 100
This guy would've gotten straight fucked up if he went out with his friends.
yea but hes got to show appreciation for the real bread winner...hed get bitch slapped if he didnt take her pretentious ass
evil999 He probably makes a reasonable amount of money owning a high end restaurant. Perhaps not as much as an attorney, but still...
evil999
Are you kidding? She's nice!
CuteCatFaith not very observant are you?
evil999 I've lived, traveled, worked and studied all over the world, in many cultures. I'm not terribly judgmental.
p.s the Dracula's castle bit has me in tears, her voice + retarded idea = gold
You can tell Patterson never actually goes out. He is so out of his comfort zone.
The most boring episode of munchies.
standards are dropping very quickly. 2nd boring ass chefs night out Ive seen in as many weeks.
Lets get more drunks and guys who eat big steaks
Chifundo Banda I second that!
I think it's the high-pitched valley-speak that is killing the video for me.
This video is a fucking nightmare about how boring your god damn life can be if you marry the wrong person.
I actually think this episode is really fucking funny, cause he's completely self aware of all the things people dislike about this video. also it's really nice to have a portrayal of different sides of the food industry. it's beautiful and intimate.
I watched this video while eating a grilled cheese sandwich and drinking a beer. That was far more satisfying and pleasant than what these people eat at a restaurant.
"Here is a single spring pea, misted with a lime air, crushed maple leaves from the forest floor, on top of a pool of blessed Tibetan water. Your tab will be $672.89"
Thank you for making me laugh that is such a true statement with those restaurants.
Well worth the price for the perfect bite from such a brilliant chef. The fact that you came here to spew hatred jist shows how much of a piece of shit you are.
@@juancervantes313 It's called a joke. The fact you took this seriously and immediately began with personal insults is more telling of who's actually spewing hatred.
I actually worked in fine dining for many years and have every ounce of respect for chefs.
Take a chill pill and a walk.
plz have this couple do that after sex thing, so I can have a real grasp of how much there life sucks. Also when ever Im feeling down, I can watch it and know at least my life's not that bad.
If anyone were to ask me what I think purgatory is like, I'll make them watch this video.
Alexander Farax eating and drinking expensive stuff?
HAHAHAAH, OMG, YES, PERFECT COUPLE FOR THE SEX THINGY
For real idgaf how much money these pretentious fucks ask for I will personally donate to that cause
Haha, seriously, they're probably one of those couples that make a schedule of when, where, and how long they will have sex.
Listening to his wife talk makes me want to reach out to my old therapist Karen.
The people in these comments absolutely did not pass the vibe check in 2021. These are the same people who probably spit at Leonardo's paintings. This man was ahead of his time, Down to earth humble yet eccentric and genius at the same time.his restaurant has 2 michelin stars!!!! Every one at the end was patiently waiting for his food!!! And his wife was smoking hot 😅 this is honestly one of my favorite episodes ever. This man is a god.
I’m with ya
I personally really enjoyed this video, man has a unique personality which I find appealing to watch. That being said though all these dishes look amazing but god damn would I still be hungry lol
the most exciting moment was the corey lee saying you should be totally fucked up by now. and he was right. they couldn't be more boring if they tried.
TOO FUCKIN FUNNY, I DONT EVEN THINK HE HANGS OUT WITH THOSE PEOPLE ON HIS REGULAR TIME AHAHAHHAHAHAHAH. HIS WIFE ALSO HAS A STACHE
I don't get why so many dislikes. The guy is an honest guy that obviously knows his way around the culinary world! :) Anywho - I liked it.
his attorney fucked it up.
Rafa Joseph what do u mean?
Anyone else notice the wife disappeared 70% through the episode?
She fucked off home because she was bored to tears
Fennec Besixdouze or she probably went back home to care of her and the dude's two young children like a responsible adult.
This marriage will not last. The look on his face at 6:08 says it all "What the fuck was I thinking"
his wife is so basic
the whole episode is basic
so was that guy
attorneys are paid though
I’m glad I’m not the only one.
@@someoneyouknow12 I have to agree that wife fits that guy perfectly kind of very boring.
I like the comment of the first chief saying, guys... You should be already drunk !
Lmao guy flips off the camera while walking past at 10:53
the chef at 4:30 definitely knows how to do this show.
"have you seen some of these episodes, you guys should be like totally fu**ed up by now"
^Do an episode on THAT guy
This guy seriously needs his own show.
OMG the first 7 mins were really awkward and after the blood joke I couldn't continue, good luck fellow viewers!
a refreshing change to the normal episode of binge drinking, profanities, and pretension. i enjoyed greatly.
everything looks soooooo good
Only Daniel Patterson could pull off such a sober Munchies vid. haha This guy rocks. Not sure if I could ever afford to eat at his restos but I like his perspective.
He didn't pull it off doe
great guy, love that he is not yelling in taxi and singing songs as in the rest of the shows.
Been smokin and sippin 1:25 LMAO this guy
The first part of episode left me feeling like a third wheel on my best pal and his wife's wedding anniversary date night. Enjoy your dinner at your buddy Corey's place, but I don't wanna see you chat with your wife. I like what Daniel Patterson does with his restaurants in principle and his ethos, but I find his media work including his cookbook (which I've thought about buying a few times and pulled back after reading it) and his appearance on Mind of a Chef with David Chang to be dull. He strikes me as a thoughtful, reflective guy, qualities I respect, but engaging with some laughs, no and that's what I look for in a Munchies episode.
I meant watch, not see. Sorry.
Most awkward Munchies yet by far.
I’d pay Chef Patterson anything to write my menu descriptions.
I enjoyed this episode
after you finish eating at these places you'll need a burger afterwards
I like this, it's really interesting.
I like how her title was "Attorney" rather than Wife
There should be an episode with Dan and Chef Choi about their business endeavor.
well that's 16 minutes I'm never getting back
oh god i wonder if their kids are alright
I LOVE THIS!
I would fucking lmao if somebody served me a spoon
lmao
wow. vice finally spoofed it's own show. "caramelized anchovy with peanut butter..." great writing guys
Don't get me wrong, I love fine dining but I appreciate the episodes where the food is more modest. I don't know if the episode was too pretentious or what... The guy is one talented chef (no doubt) but I guess I'm more fond of the communal eating episodes. Just my opinion
DAMN. A WHOLE SPOON!?
Leaving this to go watch Matty Matheson yell while drunk.
how can anyone stand a woman like that? i just don't understand how someone could put up with her attitude/voice/ignorance
she probably gives good head
DjGhost718 Lmmfao she better !!
f79tà
+Trail's End talking about fucking Dracula's Castle.... moron
Juan Palermo lol
Whats the song that starts playing at 13:20?
ahhh this guy is living my dream life...
His wife looks fun!🤣🤣🤣
What's the name of the song at 13;20????
Wow this was a dive for my high x.x
that lady's mustache is better than mine lol 5:05
Either this guy wasn't briefed on what he was getting into (my guess), or he was and the producer was just starring mortified at how he'd have to explain this waste of budget all night. Still love you boos xoxo
I feel like you just forced him to do this video right after his kids died in a fiery car crash.
is this a spoof episode?
Made me feel good about myself!
Dudddde your supposed to bring your friends. Not your wife...
hey! some wives are fun and sooo not what she was.
I used to find this episode boring, but now I really appreciate him talking about his philosophies on food. If you listen to him talk about food and his experiences with it, he's super insightful.
My ears and eyes are bleeding watching this lmao
Jeff Ma was on the MIT Blackjack Team (the team in the movie 21). Cool friend to have.
what is the song called at the very beginning? thank you in advance!
I respect Patterson, seems quirky, but he has a real passion for what he does. That being said, this is NOT a good reflection of SF. I wanna see how some of the other chefs go hard in this city! I love it here, one of the best bar towns in the US!
Yes miss living there!
Nice oreo sized food. For like $30
what is number of chopin's tune used in the scene of driving to the resturant?
driving to the kin kaho.
next level food
does anyone know the name of the song that starts at 13:20 ?
+nmsi7 I'm seconding this question, I really wanna know
What is the name of the song during the intro? Thank you in advance !
He really loves his wife, just look at how he looks at her when she talks about their kids going to their restaurant
Valley girl who became an attorney and married a beta Michelin chef. LOLWUT
MY GOD 4:50 EVEN THE BEER IS PRETENTIOUS
*WHATS THE NAME OF THE SONG AT 13;20????*
That guy really just said people have been eating for 6000 years.
why the dislikes ? great episode imo
His conversation with his wife felt almost satirical in its mundaneness
This chef's a melt!
Did the guy in the van before his wife?wow!
what is the song at about 11.45???
That scene with his wife "eating" is so fucking awkward!
Special with that waiter announcing those fancy-ass one bite "plates".
...bridge footage was going into San Francisco, not leaving it
Can someone tell me what the song is at 3:36
exciting, inspirational, energetic, fun, delicious and masses of personality!
opps I am commenting on the wrong episode of CNO, sorry I am half asleep
11:20 what's the name of this piece? Pink Martini does a version of it, curious what it's called...
I got a weird American psycho vibe from that guy lol
This was so boring and the chef knows and feels bad about it. Cute, awkward, yet pleasant episode!
"People have been eating for 6,000 years" --- Sillly boy.
Those first meals remind me of Demolition Man taco bell scene
This is hell. Right there. Just eat a pancake dude, a grill cheese, it wont kill you to eat a pizza.
'
Wow! What a nice change. A bit of a palate cleanser amid all the chef's drinking too much, eating too much and generally behaving OTT. A whole different and intimate look at the restaurants they visited.
Daniels been in the kitchen so long and takes it so serious you can tell his social life kinda struggles which goes with the territory. Sad but also impressive if you get what I’m saying.
next episode or in the future i need a crazy af chef whos drunk before the show or has friends and there all outgoing like the ones in the beginning of this series
what song was that on 13:20?
the biggest exceess on this episode was that nobody wore a seatbelt in the car...
He is the Crispin Glover of chefs.
I admire his skill and to some extent, I agree with what he says, also, he is on the wrong end of the fun scale
His wife talks like the Kardashian’s💀
5 years later and this is still painful to watch. God speed
time to think about your life
when the best friend is your wife
