  • As we all known, LA is dominated by the car and highway: What steps can Los Angeles take to become more public transit friendly? ~Tim
    -
    The Los Angeles Metro Rail is an urban rail transportation system serving Los Angeles County, California. It consists of six lines, including two rapid transit subway lines (the Red and Purple lines) and four light rail lines (the Blue, Green, Gold and Expo lines) serving 93 stations. It connects with the Metro Busway bus rapid transit system (the Orange Line and Silver Line) and also with the Metrolink commuter rail system. Metro Rail, which had an average daily weekday ridership of 362,135 as of July 2016, is owned and operated by the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) and started service in 1990. It has been extended significantly since that time and several further extensions are either in the works or being considered. ~Wikipedia

    Those new 2014 trains have less stylish and smaller doors and window then the 1996 ones. But still a nice light rail system.

      They also have a lower top speed by 5 mph, but they have much better noise insulation, AC, and displays in my experience.

    This system and its cars remind me of the St.Louis metrolink, which was the first metro system train I've ever rode on! But it doesn't run in the middle of the street, though.

    Why do the Blue and Expo lines have diverse rolling stock?

    • @btomimatsucunard
      @btomimatsucunard Před 5 lety

      Because they share right of way in downtown Los Angeles, and because the blue line has weight restrictions, the Breda cars cannot ride on them which leads the gold line to be more homogeneous

    @sgt.eclair Před 6 lety +3

    very nice in the front and back.. but on the sides.. does this light rail try to become a metro or what? MUNI does it better in San Francisco for sure I think.. great service anyway!

    • @Whitebeard79outOfRus
      @Whitebeard79outOfRus Před 5 lety

      That's that spacial American way, they like their things big :)) But also that's because there's two different type of LR in US: streetcar and LR itself, which in European classification is tram-train and there's no that obsolete conception of streetcar there, except in post-Soviet countries, where almost all tram systems is of streetcar, in fact.

    • @sonicboy678
      @sonicboy678 Před 5 lety

      And?
      In order to improve service for people, the number of grade crossings really needs to be cut down (I'd say eliminated, but one thing at a time.

      @deputykirsanov7314 Před 5 lety

    • @edwardmiessner6502
      @edwardmiessner6502 Před 5 lety +1

      I think that would entail elevating or depressing the tracks above grade or below grade, respectively. Either that or the intersecting streets. Of course you could simply block off the side streets at the track but people won't like that.
