  • Upgrading to an LED Headlight is one of the best modifications one can make on a motorcycle in my opinion. Dark roads especially in wooded twisty's are better illuminated. Seeing better helps avoid road hazards, animals, and debris that can make for a bad day.
    Having better visability to other drivers and animals is always a good thing. We all know riding at night is far more dangerous, so why not better our odds at safety.
    LED Headlight replacement lamps are available from many manufactures, and that is great. Only thing is, as with all things motorcycle they are very expensive in my opinion. Sometimes costing hundreds of US Dolars.
    I have watched the LED light bulbs evolve over the last several years. Gone is the need to have a seperate driver, huge heatsinks, and all the things that made bulbs less than desireable.
    So no that I have found an LED Bulb with internal cooling fan, internal driver, all for about $25.00, It is fast, easy, and affordable to upgrade my headlights on all my motorcycles.
    Today I tackle the Kawasaki Vulcan S 650 ABS SE. It really does only take about 5 minutes to complete, and is a simple as changing a stock light bulb. So please come follow along and give it a try on your own ride.
    I do not know the legality of changing headlight bulbs in your juristiiction because they ofter have a color difference and brightness. Please check suitability for your own usage. I havn't had any issues where I live and ride.
    Thank you for watching, please hit the thumbs up, and while you are at it please subscribe. I appeciate you!

    I knew there had to be an easier way than replacing the whole cowl as I have seen done that did look great, but the cost was enormous. I upgraded from halogen to H9 LEDs on my car and the difference is remarkable. One side was so difficult to get to (and out of), it looked like I pulled my hand out of the mouth of a mountain lion. I got 6000K for the daylight whiteness, 15000LM for intensity and would probably use about the same on a bike.
    I haven't gotten stopped, but anything over 3000LM supposedly is not legal in my state. So, I did it anyway. They don't have a listing for Kelvin limits, so that probably doesn't matter. The people running this state probably wouldn't know what that was in the first place. I might check other bikes that come with LEDs and see what their specs are and either match it, or double it. Thank you for taking the time to share.

      You're welcome. I don't have issues here where I live. Modern vehicles with LED lights off and look like they have their brights on when they don't. I'm guessing the law enforcement doesn't seem like my lights are out of the ordinary.
      Let me know what you come up with and how it worked out. Nice to see such analytical thinking BTW.

      Thank you for the reply and feedback on my video helping you replace your headlight bulb. I do apologize that I won't be changing my turn indicators to LED anytime soon, and maybe never. Some parts of a motorcycle design from the factory engineering team I think are excellent left as-is. Enjoy the new light bulb and always ride safe.

    BEWARE ! In the past ( a few years ago ) I replaced the headlight on my Vulcan 750 with a led bulb . Easy to install and very good bright light . The problem is that the bulb burnt out in only a few months . I then tried a few different brands , some with and some without cooling fans built in . Same result .
    I ended up going back to a standard light . I wish I could find a led that would last . But so far every led I've tried is a waste of money .

      @frdbecker  Před 5 měsíci

      I'm guessing the small light bulb burned out? I couldn't imagine any other reason why you would want to remove it.
      I have not tried to remove mine, but it's possible that it is a banette type. These usually push inward, and twist slightly, then pull out. You can Goggle banette bulb to see what I mean.
      You can also find the Vulcan shop manual like many others on the web, probably as a downloadable PDF file. I don't have time right now to do that, so let me know if you figure it out or not.

    Not sure why but "Amazon Vehicle Fit" system does tell me that AUXITO H4 9003 is NOT compatible with my 2018 Vulcan S... Was this the same result for you (assuming you got your on Amazon as well)?

    • @frdbecker
      @frdbecker  Před 2 lety +2

      Mine fit fine. Amazon vehicle fit is not always correct. The Vulcan S has been all but identical since 2015 on most components, yet several upgrade parts from several manufacturers only list parts as fitting of couple years or so on Amazon. Then on the Q&A sections, often the seller chimes in with a "yes it does" on other years.
      Obviously the AUXITO bulb I used fit my Vulcan S, my DR-Z400, and a few other H4 compatible vehicles.

    • @floridaredneck
      @floridaredneck Před 9 měsíci

      I looked at that light also. My experience with LEDs and car change-outs is depending on the car, some "think" the headlight is out, because LEDs use so much less power, that it messes with the system. Sometimes you'll get a flickering from your dome light, or in worst case the engine light for instance. Some have to buy the bulbs that have a transformer type of device that pulls more power over that of the bulb, to make your car "think" the old halogen bulb is working fine, with no flickering or the like. So if the specs are what you want, that your bike can take and the connectors are identical, then it does fit and it does work.

      @@preejuani4836 it is important that one checks the height of the projected beam to factory specs. These could be off given many factors like who unboxed and assembled the bike, to adjustments made by owners, or even small upsets. Automobiles here in the States have very bright LED from the factory. Most noticable when the high beams are triggered. Many new motorcycles are following suit. We just need to be responsible for our own actions.
