The small raised ridges are achieved with thin cords and they are called cording. Lovely embroidery detailing.
I was going to say. I have some corsets with them. They're kind of soft and malleable but very sturdy.

Thank you. As someone who knows a little bit about stays and corsets. Thank you because in the final view of the stays on you are wearing the stays overtop of a layer so that it’s not directly touching the skin which is how they are supposed to be worn.
Using a rope thread is a structural technique and can be used in conjunction with the stiff boning
to do the cording thing, use a zipper foot and put the thread under the fashion side and push the fabric up so that the cord pushes to the outside of the corset.

Everything about this project is stunning, from the color, the decorative stitching to the final look, simply magnificent!!! I would love to see more up close details! I was thinking about the corded channels and had the thought that maybe you could have added a bias casing for the boning, hand stitched to the back of the channels to give it support ? What are your thoughts? I love corded channels, they add so much interest. I did that on a jacket at the waist and absolutely loved the look. Anyways you are incredibly talented and this was a master class in sewing!!

Huge fan of 18th century styles. I've made a few sets of stays for myself and plan on making another set this year. Seeing how you made this on the machine makes more sense to me now so I shall do that instead of hand sewing. 😂🤣 As always thank you for your wonderful videos and patterns.

But I did have a question. Why is it that you stitched over the boning instead of creating channels for them then insert them into it? It would have given you the raised effect you wanted and the garment would have been easier to work with

Do you have to add a little fabric when cutting out to allow for the fit when adding stitching and height of the boning? I have never used boning.
