    • @aylbdrmadison1051
      @aylbdrmadison1051 Před 3 lety

      @Bob Cook : Nope. Thrash metal is in fact a fusion of metal and hardcore punk. I know this because grew up in and around the birth of thrash metal in Oakland and Berkeley, and we all loved bands like Black Flag, The Dead Kennedys, and Fang (one of my best friends still plays guitar for Fang occasionally).
      Real punk rock was and is about being anti-establishment (witch intrinsically includes being anti-misogynistic btw). Punk rock died because many fans didn't get it at all, and in their weakness thought that posing as a "real man" was the thing. Ironically for you, it's the very same reason thrash metal died. People who got it, got disgusted by all the intrinsically weak machismo, and many of those weak machismo posers finally learned something about life.
      I don't think I ever met one thrash metal artist who didn't give at least a nod to punk rock, and I hung out at times with all the players from Exodus, Laaz Rockit, Testament, Metallica, Forbidden etc. Some were good friends, and collectively at least one of my closest friends were good friends with almost all of those guys. So I actually know what I'm talking about from real life experience.
      By the way, I always preferred thrash metal more personally, probably because I came more from a prog-rock/fusion background. But whatever, "good" is just an opinion anyway, nothing more (you can enjoy both if you want, I do). That's Basic Life 101.

    • @aylbdrmadison1051
      @aylbdrmadison1051 Před 3 lety +1

      @@ethanhill9460 : Exactly. Punk rock was never a "fashion." It was always about being anti-establishment, and when a genre develps an "established dress code", it's time to be different. One of the most hardcore punks I ever knew was also a tie-dye wearing Deadhead, and another was also the biggest Beatles fan I've ever known (R.I.P Eric, I miss you). Most of the the punk rockers I knew dressed like any other stoner and you couldn't tell from looking at a group of my friends who liked punk, metal, classic rock, jazz, funk, classical, or blues (some like me were fans of all those genres and more).

    Well, by his own admission he made most of his money from writing books, doing speaking tours, and acting. In Black Flag they never made anything and in Rollins Band he broke even on most of the tours but he was addicted to the stage life and being in a band. As far as his vocals go, he fit in with the music and adjusted his voice as needed. I get where you're coming from, but even in the context of his genre I think he's a pretty good vocalist. Better than many punk vocalists anyways. =)

      *For spoilers I suppose?*
      No, no. The creator based him off of Henry Rollins. Watch a few videos of him, the man is intense. Also immensely entertaining and funny, everything Negan is known for. If there *was* a zombie apocalypse, do not doubt for a minute that Henry would survive and lead a band of people. He's kind of bad ass like that. There would... *probably* be less of the other Negan stuff, but I guess the show is a study in what people become while focusing on survival. You never know.

    Hardcore punk (say 1981-1984 era) was really wonderful in my opinion. Houston was an OK market (i went to a few shows which were all really great) but the best part of living there during this period for me at least was the Funhouse Show every Sunday night from 11p-1a on KPFT-a public radio station. This show was hosted by "Chuck Roast" who has owned a great record store in Houston for decades probably beginning around the early 80s. I recorded the show in its entirety for at least two years and I have over seventy 90-minute cassettes of Black Flag, Minutemen, Circle Jerks, Bad Brains, Seven Seconds, DRI, F&*ck-Ups, both studio and live tracks etc and if my house caught on fire they would be the first thing I'd go for as soon as every person/pet were safe.

    I knew a dude that SWEARS he got into a fight with Henry Rollins at The Place I Knoxville, TN, circa 83' or '84... says he kicked Rollins' ass, which I doubt, but I do tend to believe that they got in a fight .. both of them were rather...uh... obnoxious...at least back then. I saw Rollins last year doing one of his "monologue" shows, and I realized that he's somebody that can't stop talking once he gets started! Lol

      read the book - they basically payed all by themself, eating watever and sleeping everywhere ( most of the time covered in spit ) - in UK Henry Rollins got in a very big fight with the local punks at one gig ( i really can't remember the place ) - they waited for him , like 50 against him . he still fight back , but they beat him real bad - you got to read the book, so intense - this in the video is nothing -
      the book is fantastic, like 1000% punk - Henry got gigantic balls
