james Doctor I have drummer friend just like that when I met him he was the most insufferable, miserable, sarcastic asshole that didn’t have anything good to say about anything or anyone. Most people are assholes you got to understand this so when henry gets controntational, its more so him prodding at someones mind to see what makes them passionate. Small talk is a more comfortable conversation to be had but confronting someone puts them in a more lethargic state where they will show their true nature by their response. He’s actually a really funny guy, if you haven’t seen it his Comedy Central stand-up short “punk rock hyenas” is hilarious.
Yeah, he always seems really serious in average situations, so even in moments here like when Nardwuar breaches 'the last interview' and it gets a little weird, especially "I appreciate your interest" which came off as cold as anything he said, it's still just kinda par-for-the-course for Rollins. Nardwuar definitely knows how to push his buttons deftly as well and then switch subject.
The end sequence for both his interviews proves that statement. First interview he does the "doot doot" by headbutting the mic and here he fucking goes with the end pose joke and even clearly has fun with it
The fact that Henry Rollins almost busted out laughing in the end compared to his previous serious interview 13 years ago made it worth it.

many thank's to Nardwaur for the great plug but I must point out that the mp3 file compression algorithm was actually developed (I believe) by Karlheinz Brandenburg at the Fraunhofer Institute. I had no part in it's development contrary to what it claims in the Chris Walters book, but what the hell eh, could be an urban legend in the making.

This is literally one of the best interviews I've seen with either guy. Two consummate professionals with interested preparation dueling the disinterested fulfillment of a social duty for real engagement, and respect is finally found before Nardwuar straight trolls a smiling Henry. In the end both guys come off as genuine and funny.

I think Henry has a sense of humor, his mask is just so thick that none of his emotions show through.
I've rewatched these two interviews a dozen times over the years. Having met Rollins as a teenager at D.C. Space he is very very hard to approach we were naive kids who had nothing to lose. I feel for Nardwuar cause I felt exactly like he did when trying to get a conversation going.
*You notice..* a couple min-in, Henry always let's down His guard in these interview types. Because this is what He craaves. Deep, specific, and different....and most of all,.. *GENUINE.*
Rollins is quite the gentleman here all things considered, but fuck he is one intense person.
I got a lot of respect for the man. Hes a hard worker, and he's had an interesting life that he can talk eloquently about. Half the time I think hes a cunt, the other half I relate to him more than anyone else.

start the sentence "Danzig sues" in your google search bar and prepare to have your screen filled with a drop down tab. Henry can at least be funny and self-aware at times. He has his dick moments, and definitely finds Narduar trivial, but he isn't always that way. To my knowledge, despite having more legitimate reasons to seek litigation than Glenn in some instances, Rollins hasn't sued anyone (much less his entire band over a logo that they all stole from a b-movie to begin with).
All you need to do is watch any interview with Danzig to realise he's got social issues.

Henry Rollins is a tricky man he is. Very astute and observant yet self depricating and humble. He doesnt say much, yet he states his case and tells you what he is thinking. Nardwar is a very crafty individual who at most amuses Henry. But its all relative. If you watch the other interview this seems more tame and relaxed. I want to dislike Rollins but something about him makes me think he is sorta on the spectrum, he's very honest and you can see his nicer side spill out throughout the interview.

I think he's just guarded due to his past. He's just very measured, in comparison to most.
He has done a stand-up comedy special before. He is extremely animated and happy. He described himself as "unnervingly polite and capably violent." If his story is real, then it's because he some intense ADHD.

You should just catch his nightly radio show from 11pm to midnight on KCRW. He’s usually very enthusiastic and chill asf. He’s not this big alien everyone thinks he is lol.
