I was 17 years old when i saw this on PBS. I grew up in a very religious and sheltered household and didnt have cable tv, internet or any secular music other than what i could hear on radio or broadcast tv or whatever. I tuned in right at the end of the interview but if you watch it, from that point on it never says who the band performing is until the end of the broadcast. My mind is reeling from how amazing the thing I just saw was and quickly turned to dread because i had no way of knowing who this was. Years went by before I saw a picture of Henry Rollins back tattoo and put the pieces together and figured out that he was the shirtless lunatic I saw that blew my brain apart. This performance was amajor stepping stone to me going down a very long journey of musical exploration and still gives me chills. Thank you so much for uploading this.
Damn. That’s a serious story there! I can’t imagine how cool this must be to watch for you. Awesome man! Glad you have the ability to listen to whatever the fuck you want now.
I knew that it showcased on pbs, and I thought I was the only person that knew that! Thank you for confirming my suspicions. He's also an avid historian. I got my degree in social sciences and I love the work he did with the History channel.
For the younger folks at home. "Stereo Simulcast" allowed you to turn your TV sound off and your Hi-Fi system On for Stereo quality audio through your FM tuner. 🎧
watching this at age 47 now nearly brought a tear to my eye… Loved this album… was front row in Dublins SFX shithole centre in 1998…. knew every lyric ❤
I've been searching for the full episode of The Rollins Band on Sessions At West 54th forever (I lost the VHS tape that I recorded it on when it originally aired) Can't thank you enough for uploading it, I got something back I thought I would never see again. As we all know that is a very rare occurrence in life, which makes me appreciate it that much more. Thank you brother
As a 17 year old kid finding this guy and all his bands has been a blessing over these past months. I’m in a stage of my life when everything feels like it’s challenging me and I’m mad for myself and other people and this guy fuckin gets it. Religious or not, God bless Henry Rollins
his music is like having a like minded friend with you, you cant go wrong with our hank. he tells it to you strait, no bullshit and strait from the heart...
Damn this set is so good! Every one in the band is so dialled in. I saw the Rollins Band in Australia around this time and it was awesome! Rest in peace to drummer Jason Mackenroth
I was born too late to ever see Black Flag live, so the first time I got to see Henry perform was at the first Lollapalooza, and I’ve seen him a bunch since. Just an incredibly interesting and compelling guy. It’s great to see he’s back touring with his spoken word stuff after the shitstorm that the last couple years have been.
I saw a handful of phenomenal performances at these Sessions tapings but also missed some EPIC ones, too -- it was "first come, first served" reservations -- you had to call-in
rollins forever! saw the rollins band several times between 1987 and the late 90ies. each show was enjoyabel as a special moment in music history! thx *hank the tank* for doing what you have been doin' ! 😎
This performance makes me respect this post-Haskett/Gibbs/Cain lineup, which I usually don't do. Mother Superior seriously rocks. Much better live than recorded in the studio.
The first time I saw ‘The Henry Rollins Band’ was at an all-ages show in Toronto on a Sunday circa late 198X-ish, I think it was at The El Mocambo. I kept thinking to myself ‘do some Black Flag’. He had just released his first album, I’ve seen him 4 times. I’ve yet to see him do his ‘spoken word’ stuff. I just hope he keeps dabbling in music every once in a while (which he seems to do...’Illumination’). He’s been a huge inspiration and influence in my life, a very rare artist/mover/shaker and philosopher. You CAN’T match his integrity. Edit, what does he got? He’s ALWAYS had a pair of black shorts PEACE :-)
A top-flight performance from Henry and the band, and the Oh So Cool PBS audience (no doubt congratulating themselves for being there) just sit on their asses for the whole show.
15 JUNE 2022 um sorry im so late discovered this HOT muscled shirtless and barefeet vocalist hahaha i loved it! never seen any band like this!!! The good old days were the best
This is awesome. I was good friends with Jim (guitar player) and Marc (bassist). That might be Stefan on drums but not sure. I remember jammin with those cats in high school and what fun it was. Wow
Should of been called " Give Up, Give Up Give Up, We're done!!!! Your music was over after this magic Right? Spoken word train came rolling in, I respect that! Your band days were over and you are not "Elvis"! The only band that will leave you with history and acknowledgement is Chris Haskett, Sim Cain and Andrew Weiss and follow up bass player for a short time Melvin Gibbs. This crew you gathered for an album that went nowhere.. End of Silence will be your greatness. I look forward to seeing this band with a new singer at the State fair now Covid is over .
Honestly, as much as it hurts to admit...you're right. Those of us who grew up with black flag and watched Hank transition to Rollins band were extremely happy with the albums up to "the end of silence", mainly because of the lineup. Those guys can never be replaced. Now watching this, even in '22 seems like clones of thr band

That’s the shit right there
There's something poetic, wild and heroic about his surfing pose.
I for one am all for it, reminds me a lot of Maynard and his awkward dancing. Maybe Rollins inspired it?
Admit it weve all sang along to Rollins band songs shirtless in basketball shorts at home at some Point hahaha
Fuck yeah 😎
Bro I was doing that to this video and came to the comments during the interview portions lmao
fuckin A, right now, but in a pair of khaki cargos, does that count ! haha

a new upload of good, old Rollins Band - clicked and watched - 10/10
John Hiatt's introduction was so beautiful. It reminded of what Hank did with the IFC show.

Sim Cain was by far one of the best drummers for Henry Rollins, but the late, great Jason Mackenroth is SOLID!! RIP.

"Part animal, Part machine"! 🤘
This is rocking.
Not remotely comparable to the original Rollins Band line-up, their intensity was off the charts
I was skeptical, but this ROCKED!
The single row of flat silhouettes of an audience is priceless.
I fucking love this man!
This performance makes me respect this post-Haskett/Gibbs/Cain lineup, which I usually don't do. Mother Superior seriously rocks. Much better live than recorded in the studio.
Saw the south Florida show around 2001, what a throwndown it was, Mother Superior opening and then Rollins Band!
Cought this tour in Philly. Electric factory I believe. Cool seeing jh interview him.
Huge inspiration!⚕️I got to see him in NOLA on the coke in and burn tour!🔥🔥‼️👊

Agreed!
This incarnation of the band was just MURDEROUS. Zero prisoners taken, firing on all fronts. And Henry at 40 full intensity. HAIL!🤘
Say what you will, but that band freakin' SMOKED!
Saw the end of silence band in the U.K.then the Weight tour and the MS line up.

Jason Mackenroth on drums here, he passed away in 2014. Powerhouse drummer.
I've never really been a Henry Rollins fan but this was a pretty good performance
Thank you. If I didn't see Self opinion.I wouldn't be here. Period. Thank you Henry Rollins.
Anyone know when this was recorded/broadcast? Seems like from the Get Some Go Again album
