Is there any chance of a small graphic in the corner showing the current victory points and maybe command points? Would make it easier to follow (especially as I am normally multi tasking! :P)

Covid has brought us one good thing - Josh is now doing battle reports!
You probably don't wanna run 2 big blobs of marines since you can only cloud of flies one of them. Also you are gonna need more than 8 wounds worth of a screen for the unit you use cloud of flies on. Alternatively you could run the upgraded Plague Surgeon and possibly the Noxious Blightbringer with his new relic to make the marines harder to kill. Could also try putting one of the units into reserve and clouding the other unit, or replacing one with some Blightlords and running it as a patrol instead. Just some thoughts as i've also been speculatively making some DG lists revolving around Plague Marines. :)
Those plague marine squads should never have been piled together like that...

@@Jmann-jj1jo the point is that you can roll 2 D3 for 6 and roll six sixes to hit to trigger DTTFE, so it is potentially 6D3 more attacks, so flails.can do from 2 to 24 attacks from ONE model

I saw 2 big blobs of plague marines and i winched. Then I remembered moral doesn't suck as bad as it used to, so here I am making a comment about how I think the DG army isn't great 3 minutes into the video. But it's learning, lets see how something like this works in 9th with the new strategems. GL!

Throwing grenades air craft always seems strange to me from a immersion standpoint.
So does almost every space marine ever just throwing away millenia of technological advancment in ranged weaponry in order to charge headlong into glorious melee combat. BUT THIS IS 40K AND ITS AWESOME, NOW THROW THEM GRENADES AT THEM AIRCRAFT DAMNIT!

I like this secondary objective mechanic. It feels both more immersive, and more balanced for varied lists that might not have been as good with the old objectives of linebreaker, slay the warlord, and etc.
I couldn’t see mention of it in the comments. In Lukas first turn when he charged, josh used heroic intervention with the tech-priest. Now distances on camera do always look skewed. But the tech-priest didn’t *appear* to be with 3” of the blighthauler and so wouldn’t have been able to perform the intervention.

At 25:22, technically all modifiers are cumulative. You can have multiple +1 or -1 modifiers to hit acting simultaneously, for instance two -1 and one +1 for a total of -1. Or you can have multiple modifiers adding to more than -1 or +1, but the risk effect can only ever be +1 or -1

41:08 I heard somewhere (I think it was another MWG Batrep) that hit rolls can no longer be modified past -1 and +1? Or am I getting that confused with something else? Great Batrep, love both Death Guard and Admec
After all modifiers ‘to hit’ and ‘to wound’ rolls can be modified by a maximum of +1 or -1.
As soon as I saw the DG list, I knew it had no chance. If your biggest punch unit it's a melee one that moves super slow, at least include some high dmg weapons to destroy the units that can dmg your units till they get into melee range. Btw those blight haulers are so bad, you need some leviathan or contemptor dreadnought, even the defilers or plagueburst crawlers would have done better.

So, you took a Tallyman in a Mortarion's Anvil detachment with a 20-man blob of melee Plague Marines and didn't give him the relic to give exploding 6s?

Roll 6 to proc DttFE get 1 extra attack and 1 extra auto hit
DttFE roll into another 6 which would incur another auto hit
This can start to get real silly with the flails

In Lukas first round the CC Marines should have used Blight Bombardement with the +6“Strat and the Biologus Buff. This would have been enormous.
Nothing was in range other then the priests that died to flail attacks anyway.

So much for this being the "combat edition". DG with melee gets mowed down by bombs and shooting, can't catch up in points because of a mobile firebase. Game was over by T1.
Totally. 40k seems to have devolved to: bunch all your guys together in a big blob with aura buffs and shoot the crap out of your enemy. Weapons so ridiculously accurate and deadly most games are essentially over by turn 2. Get rid of shooting through your own guys; every model should need LOS, at least then you get a more realistic looking firing line
It was more an issue of him only using 2 giant squads. It neutered his ability to close and allowed for a very efficient expenditure of command points to slow them down.
If he'd have run 4 smaller units two of them could have rolled in from the flanks to get into melee without taking rounds of shots getting there.
Yeah it's a lot of things. The army he brings (an 8th edition army, not one built for 9th in mind) matters. He admitting 3 quarters through the game that he wasn't really playing the objectives is another problem. A bigger one often not talked about, but that Jim Vesal complained about in his interview with Dave, is that points haven't been updated yet, we don't have the faq'd abilities, and we don't have the FULL rules, so a lot of the people practicing, theorycrafting lists, and trying to "gain an edge" are operating with incomplete information and rules trying to gain an edge. For all we know, shooting units are "better," but more expensive in comparison. Maybe every army has an FAQ that changes things entirely.
Ad mech got scary good with their psychic awakening, on par with marines potentially in my opinion, and their successive points drops in every chapter approved while death guard have remained mediocre
So I feel like you cant really say it's a shooty edition based on this batrep
Also with pts hikes for 9th this ad mech army will probs cost about 400 pts more than the death guard one

Only if you roll double 1s (which would fail anyway) or if the mortal wound(s) from the perils slays the psyker

I'm watching this while painting my first 5-men squad of Electro-Priests... needless to say, it was pretty sad to see 19 get wiped in a single turn while it takes me 3-4 hours to paint a single model.
It seems like the Death Guard player uses command re-roll more than once in the same phase.
At approximately 41:40, Josh started using Overloaded Safeguards; FYI, this generates extra "hits", not extra attacks. Page 47 of Engine War:
"When resolving an attack made with a ranged weapon by a friendly model within 6" of this Warlord, an unmodifed hit roll of 6 scores 1 additional hit."
I see Josh realized this a few minutes later :)

@@Djnightmare14 He sure did; just rewatched a few bits, and I don't see any reference to Prime Hermeticon being changed to Divinations of the Magos other than at around the 36 minute mark when Josh states that he picks Overloaded Safeguards. @MWG Did we miss a part where the warlord trait was swapped?

@@mwgjosh5161 No worries, thanks for confirming. It's a heck of a Warlord trait, even though Prime Hermeticon is good for Electropriests.
Have you considered running a TechPriest Manipulus with the electropriests? The +1 to move and charge rolls is nice, and the Transonic cannon is a decent anti-horde gun.
Alchemy isn't considered a science anymore, but it is the premise for chemistry and other sciences.
But it probably is in the 41 millenium amongst the children of nurgle ;)
Do Chaos Space Marines have a “give extra warlord trait” stratagem?
You can use council of traitors for 1CP I believe and give a dark apostle and/or sorcerer a warlord trait if you have a certain warlord (abaddon ik for sure but the other two I'm not sure)

It looks like someone watered Josh’s beard.
Luca seems to have this issue where he always advances. Makes a super cool unit, rushes it in to kill the first enemy he sees, gets it obliterated next turn by the return fire/charge. Like here, he's playing some slow arse death guard and rushes up to kill a random unit of troops, on a map with no central objective, lots of LOS blockers, and overwhelming firepower.
I don't agree that plasma should have been unmodified 1s for Gets Hot because, to me anyways, having hit modifiers apply represents the user holding the charge for too long while aiming or having to adjust the lead they give the target and end up holding the trigger down just a touch too long. Anyways cool battle report as always, looks like 9th is shaping up to be 8th with most of the holes plugged which has got me excited to play again.

Yeah I think the DG list was a pretty bad matchup against the Ad Mech here, your Plague Marine blobs just get shredded. I am toying with DG and am running 3 PBC with a Chaos Lord for re-roll bubble to sit in back and artillery the board.
It’s a shooting edition and ad mech are possibly the best ranged army in the game post PA
I play DG and this army list had zero chance of winning this game.
Ad Mech shooting is pretty ridiculous.
Had to select the Stygies Canticle, instead of Mars, since it's dependent on which Forgeworld your Warlord is from.
I'm pretty sure he replaced the morale reroll canticle for the stygies canticle, he mentions at the start

@@mwgjosh5161 no worries, you also moved him closer to the priest blob due to it. Then moved him back. It happens. Especially if you don't play often. I love admech though so I keep watching them. I would rather point out and educate than just blindly say it was a mistake.

the stance on the robots is changed at the start of the movement phase, so you cant move them, then change it to double shoot.
