Thor was at his peak in terms of character and power level in Infinity War.
@teslagod2003 nah he got fucked up by thanos in endgame when he had 0 stones whereas in infinity war he nearly killed thanos with a full gauntlet

This was the best version of Thor
When you ignore that out of the story it was just a setup for a joke, Thor going from "Your father killed my brother!" to "Families can be hard." So quickly gives me the impression that he was trying to provoke a reaction from Gamora. If she had gotten defensive of Thanos instead of just staring into space (well past accepting what a monster her father is), I think Thor would have started getting far more aggressive real quick. But as soon as he saw Gamora wasn't trying to defend her father's actions he backed off.
I've never seen it that way, but that is precisely what's going on!
