Fixing The R32 Mk2 Golf MOT Failures. Will It Pass?

- Our VW Golf Mk2 failed its MOT thanks to damage sustained by a garage on the sill. As well as that major defect, the brake flexi line had also ruptured and needs changing, whilst we need a new wiper stalk too to fix the broken windscreen wipers. We've got a deadline looming and time is running out. Can we fix it in time and will it pass an MOT?

Thank you! Had the right support network around me to be able to get the work done so quickly and the companies, Hel Performance and Dubstock were so quick in sorting me out with the parts I needed I cannot recommend them enough.
Great job lads...I had the same on my mk2, but they were really far gone! Had to replace the whole panel... was a horrendous job due to the panel being sandwiched between the floor pan & the inner wheel arch panel.
Ah that's a heck of a job. We were lucky in that the metal was still good. Just bent out of shape. I've seen people having to repair the whole panel and it doesn't look fun at all, so fair play to you to preserver. Many would have seen that as too much work and scrapped the car!
I replaced the whole panel on one side before and on the other side just repaired the areas needed. Either way works depending on the situation, but on this vid with limited time and the car having all the carpet in etc... patch it neatly with new metal, protect, get back on the road
No better feeling than a fresh MOT is there? The car is looking fab!
It's funny, it's the first time it's failed spectacularly in our ownership, aside from trivial things such as lights, bushes or the like. So I'd not experienced that sense of dread when it did fail, followed the the relief and elation that the hard work paid off!
I'd describe the car as a 20ft car... looks great from afar, the closer you get, the rougher it is 🤣
@@golfmk2 20ft cars are the most fun though because you don’t have to be too precious about using them :-)
@Pentagram Motorsport exactly this. If I had it fully resprayed I'd have a nervous breakdown every time someone parked next to me. This has its fair share of dings and scratches, plus little rusty scabs here and there, but the paintwork comes up well so still turns heads.
Now that is the breakfast of champions right there 😅🤙🏼

Yeah it's a big relief! A couple of advisories to have sorted over the coming months, including rear numberplate bulb (wiring is knackered, so need to look at that) and that scabby bit in front of the rear arch where the trim was bodged in place years ago, trapping moisture. Plus some upgrades to come soon, so keep your eyes peeled!

Yeah it's a great result. A lot of work to get it right, but I'm just relieved it is now. MOTs are there for a reason so I'm glad it was picked up, and the brake hose failed under test, rather than on a motorway or track! 😬
This was under a fair bit of time pressure, 1 week to fix, retest before a drive event with other Mk2s
Definitely. Had it been trivial failures it wouldn't have been so much of a drama, but to repair a hole in the sill (properly too) plus fit a brake line and wiper stalk to have the MOT before Easter Weekend was a huge undertaking.
