  • We are both huge fans of watching, playing, and collecting Yu-Gi-Oh, but we would be lying if we said it's a perfect game. So we made a list of the ten things we wish Yu-Gi-Oh had, from a new anime to more actual video games. Maybe Konami will see and implement some of them! What do you think?

I want a Remake/Remaster of Duelists of the Roses with expanded world building and lore on the Rose Duelist legend, why the Rose Cards are important and their limits on their powers over time and space, I want interactions between the Rose Duelist and the duelists of the time period they are in, and most importantly I want to see unique interactions between the Rose Duelist and whoever their deck master is. Because the Deck Master is supposed to be the Duel Spirit who resonates with your very soul and acts as the leader of your deck, your number one protector and guide, if not closest friend, on your journey to reclaim the Rose Cards regardless if you choose Lancaster or York.
Cause this game would be PERFECT to do some improvements for the Rose Dragon deck and say Black Rose Dragon has a connection to the Rose Duelist, make some unique support in this game's format to give yourself unique advantages and new evolutions for Black Rose Dragon and other Rose Cards that isn't SEEN in the TCG, anime, or manga versions of Yu-Gi-Oh!

Card usage statistics. Basically the same as in pokemon. Cards are stratified by usage, so Overused cards (OU) get the highest tier. Then, of those cards there are trial periods for overpowered/overcentralizing cards that on their own tilt the game balance too much, and those get banned.
Next, cards that don't reach a certain threshold of usage don't make it into the OU tier; they can be used in OU, but you can also use then in the underused tier (UU), whilst you can't use OU cards on that tier.
And so on... that's basically how smogon does it and it works near perfectly for a terribly balanced game like pokemon.

    • @CornBreadtm1
      @CornBreadtm1 Před 4 dny +3

@@zero.0-0 Smogon uses usage. Which probably isn't hard to get a jumping off point for due to there being multiple simulators for the game now.
For Yu-Gi-Oh you'd mostly restrict the cards to 2 or 1 going down the tiers. So vastly over used cards would be 3 in Ubers but 2 OU and 1 in UU. Then in RU they'd be at 0 so that tier wouldn't have to worry about them at all.
Then if a card is so powerful that it gets banned from UU at one it will go to 1 in OU and 2 in Ubers and so on so forth. Possibly getting banned from OU and Ubers.

    1. Single player game with original story. Not mobile. It doesn't even have to be a completely different genre, but at least don't make card game sim number 30231. Make it into an actual game with story, progression etc. It would also be a fun way to try out some different formats because not every single duel has to be just 1 on 1 TCG/OCG rules.

I once had an idea for a Yu-Gi-Oh video game that played almost like Pokémon. You'd create your own character who is entering a duel tournament in the hopes of beating the champion and becoming number 1. You'd start with one of a handful of starter decks, but much like Battle City, you'd win cards by beating people in a duel as well as buying more structure decks and card packs from a store. The game would essentially be you exploring this entire city, dueling people you run into, and steadily getting stronger as you build your deck.

With this us OGs can go back on a nostalgia trip with old cards and characters, new players have some easy to learn decks to get them started from the anime and Konami doesn’t have to think about some weird new card mechanic to make the game “fresh” that makes a new meta solely around those new busted cards.

The original vision of multiple different games from Kazuki Takahashi was really incredible. If Konami could expand on his vision and bring some of that creativity back I think that would be great. Like, amendments to the current ban list that allow certain cards to be unbanned, but only if they cannot be used in combination with other specific cards. For example, you can have Ronintoadin but can't have Spright Blue or Substitoad, or you can have Beatrice but can't have Transaction Rollback or Fiendsmith Engraver.

    ~Level 5 & under creature trap deck
    ~Blue-eye's Ult/5 Headed Dragon deck
    ~Relinquished/Goblin Attack Force deck
~Armed Dragon Lvl/Elemental Hero BladeEdge deck
    ~Harpie Sister's/Ocean Dragon Lord-Neo Daedalus deck
    ~Ancient Gear Golem/VWXYZ DCC deck
Ban list is not seen, with 8000 life like how yugioh was intended.
    Such fun!!

For a Heart of the Underdog format, I think Calieffect had a good idea with budget decks. You give a budget, like 50 dollars to build a deck. Then go to TCG player and build the deck there and print out the receipt you get just before you pay. Bring that in as your deck list and just play. This avoids the unnecessary debates over what cards or decks should be banned. One can also have Master Duel Festival like events where players are restricted to maybe only using one Extra Deck Type, forced to have Skill Drain, or Limit One event.
One can even do a Domain Format Event where a "Deck Master" Locks you into a particular Archetype with a Limit One restriction (Unless required to perform a particular task like Fusion Summoning -BEUD or Cyber End- or Searching -Giant Germ or Nimble)
Basically, don't complicate the Heart of the Underdog, but find a simple solution to allow budget players to participate. I like the pricing idea as that literally is what budget players are looking for.

Dark Beginnings was a real coup for us YGO Boomers back in the day. We started getting access to those holo/secret rares from LOB, MRD, SRL, and PSV. Like Exodia parts were Common, and the head was just a silver title rare. It was easier to make a competitive deck without visiting eBay. But boy did i feel like royalty when I bought a pack at the gas station and pulled a Yata.

It's feels like if you didn't grow up with yugioh it's hard to get into it. Like the passion we have for the game is one of the key ways Konami only cares about. You cannot recommend a format for new players that is close to the competitive side of it just an entire different time of the game or mechanics as a whole. That's not even mentioning the knowledge of what's meta constantly changing is hard keep up. Sure right now it's snake eyes but still it's rough

Totally agree with the formats, there are some many ideas to create interesting formats, like restrict the direct attack unless the monster have that skill/effect, the Pegasus island very uncommon format, have a rock-paper-scissors weakness between attributes, restrict the number of cards that a deck should have like must have 10 spells and 10 traps and stuff like that, or a theme, like format of something and include only Ghisky, steelswarm, Gusto and Worms and so and so as war of something theme like the arcade.

One thing about the anime part: I find it hard to hear people say we need a new anime when I guarantee most of the people saying that didn't watch Zexal, Arc-V or Vrains. Now Alec did say he watched Arc-V but that's just one. I guess it's a thing of "You never know what you have until it's gone." I'd actually like an anime based on the lore because it's different and a lot of people were interested in that rather than complaining about a new protag that's "not as good as Yugi/Yusei."
Plus, I'm pretty sure the reason Rush took over the anime is because the Duel Writer struggled with Vrains (particularly Soulburner). Imagine trying to script a Snake-Eyes duel!

I am so with y'all on the Yu-Gi-Oh video games. There could be so many spin offs just based on the card's personal stories alone. A fighting game with characters like Summoned Skull, Karate Man, Exodia, etc. in it would get me so hype to play it. Also there need to be more Konami characters in Yu-Gi-Oh cards. It is a great promotional tools & crossovers tend to do well. Tons of ppl would buy a Pyramid Head, Solid Snake, Richter Belmont, Bomberman, etc. card ASAP.

Dark ruler ha des is trying to gather the 5 relics of exodia and you have to fight through all the various dual monsters in thematic regions to stop ha des. Encountering scorpion gang, the gravekeepers, amazoness etc.. the monsters in a world of their own lore

Rework and fix some of the clunkier mechanics like fusions and evolving, add more iconic monsters, and characters. You could even do it as like a GX theme or something to be a true "sequal" to it. The core gameplay is really fun, and it's a fun spin on Yugioh. We really do need more "experimental" games in the Yugioh IP.

    1. I 100% agree that we need an OCG anime because the anime was a huge part of the game's marketing. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the reason new players are decreasing in YGO is the lack of an anime.
    2. Mixed rarities is definitely something that should come to the TCG, but I'm not sure it'll happen because Konami sees TCG as a piggybank. I'm worried that this won't change until the government gets involved.
    3. I think it's a complicated issue because the card borders and frames can be considered equally as iconic as YGO is. But I definitely think that full art cards would be great as chase products.
    4. 100% Rush Duels should go global, and also have a proper Rush Duel simulator like Master Duel other than the Duel Links one because it's not pure Rush Duels since they have the skills and whatnot.
    5. I feel like it'll be hard to give keywords in YGO because a lot of the card text is supposed to be as specific as possible and it's hard to do that with keywords.
    6. I definitely agree that communication is a problem with Konami. One company to model I think is Legends Stories Studios who make Flesh and Blood who explains why they ban certain cards. All in all, LSS communicates really well with the community. You know they are listening, when the CEO himself comes out to events to talk to the community.
    7. See #6.
    8. It would be cool if YGO had a format similar to Pauper in MtG, in which only cards under a certain rarity are allowed. I think it's hard to make a format with middle of the road decks only because it's gonna be a hastle to decide which decks are allowed.
    9. Kazuki Takahashi doesn't like cashprizes because he wants players to play for the love of the game. Which is funny considering he literally had Joey enter the Duelist Kingdom tournament for the cashprize and it seemingly portrayed that as a noble cause. I don't know if Konami will do a 180 and give cash prizes, considering they managed to go without it for so long. It'll just cause them to lose money, and I don't see Konami out of all companies doing something that'll lose them money.

  • @Fenzle
    @Fenzle Před 4 dny +1

Maybe it's a bit lazy but I think a fighting game based on YuGiOh would be at least interesting with the huge number of "main characters" they introduced, something akin to a Guilty Gear Strive or Granblue would work well. Also I think the Shin Megami Tensei series, mostly the old ones, really have a feeling close from the first manga series as far as the whole ancient summoner of twisted monsters goes. Then again it's hard to create something totally new and different from the standard we are used to because there's already a "canon" universe, the manga, with a more or less developped lore and characters, so you have to place your game in the lore of the cards or to assume it is in an alternate world where cards are not a pharaonic wizards thing for it to works.

8:24 I totally agree with this tbh; I experienced this effect to a lesser degree with duel links and speed duel, I truly believe that rush duel could save Yugioh in the west. Also the fact that Romin is the only girl protagonist who feels like an actual character; that really resonated with me and got me into the games and anime as a whole, Which confirms to me that yugioh could make a core anime again and make it so much more entertaining and with better writing (and dubbing hopefully) great video btw ily 🤍

Also, damn that last point of needing more video games. I feel that so hard. I miss having Yugioh video games with full rpg storylines or new game mechanics. My dream yugioh game is a MMORPG set in Domino City where you play as a custom character exploring the city and following the events of the anime. If possible do 3D duels like Saikyo Card Battle on 3DS. You would have quests and missions like any other mmo. You can customize your character and your duel disk, meet players, do pvp and pve, tournaments, form clans. Just an MMORPG where the battle system is dueling. They can release it similar to Duel Links where the card pool and banlist is unique to it evolving at its own pace and release cards in eras starting with DM then GX then 5Ds. They could release those as DLC styled expansions like FF14 (Ofc make the cards available for nonDLC players for the sake of fairness. Only paywall cosmetics, bonus content, story quests, and minigames). Hell each expansion could have its own unique gimmick like GX you enroll in Duel Academy with tons of quizzes, challenges, and tag dueling. 5Ds they could add Duel Runners that can also be customized and ofc add turbo dueling. Each expansion also adds new story quests based on that era. The perfect Yugioh game we will never get cuz Konami is Hellbent on not investing in a major video game project.

Regarding more video games, I think I was an industry wide problem as Magic had a couple games (Shandalar was good, Bagtlemage was awful) but every game had to have all these twists and gimmicks so they couldnt perfectly replicate the card game.
Now, I fucking love the story mode in Master Duel. It's a nice tease into the setting and style of an archetype. So let's take it deeper. A Yugioh Isekai Multiverse calamity game. Player character gets sucked into the game world, and all these archetype stories are now running face first into each other. Throw me into a world, give me an archetype with some staples, let me progressively modify the deck as I progress through the world's story to try tinkering with the "core" archetype cards locked into my deck for that world's main story, and let me go wild with sidequests to unlock new cards as well.
Hell, it doesn't even need to be that original because season 3 of GX was literally this and even includes Yubel, a villain who is simultaneously a player and monster with an archetype around an evolving boss monster, and a weirdly perfect example of how in the world of Yugioh, Duel Monsters is more than just a card game. The monsters are alive and the magic is real. So let's show it and live it.

The Bridge anime series are amazing, but they don't have Western appeal and the tone is distinctly different from the Gallop series. I think they may have had potential to succeed in the West among the target demographic of kids, if Konami put in the effort to release the dub at a reasonable pace and do actual physical product release, but it's hard to say. Kinda missed their opportunity.
Most Yugiboomers look at Rush Duel and, even though it addresses every major problem they have with Modern Yu-Gi-Oh, turn their noses up at it for being different. And to be honest the lower power of the first sets may also have been a bad idea, the game didn't start to actually come alive until well into Sevens. It introduced itself with Caveman Yugioh.
I do think that Konami could make a new "Master Rule" anime but it would require being very careful, since you need to balance the cards showing up on-screen so that duels are fun to watch both visually and to a certain degree for a competitive mindset. One of the biggest problems with VRAINS was when the duels were written with decks that started to be actually meta it made them hard for the writers to plan out and also difficult for a viewer to follow.
I think there's room to support both a Master and Rush anime concurrently with the Master anime aimed more at an older, Western audience. Westerners love 5D's, so I'd say something kinda similar to 5D's would be obvious, the target audience for the Master Rule being teen to 20s makes more sense with the current game and provides an obvious smooth pathway for Japanese kids who got into the series from Rush to move into the more complicated game as they're getting older.

Throughout the original series plus GX & 5Ds they touched on a Duel-Spirit Realm. It would be cool for a human to fall into the Spirit realm and transform into one of a variety of Duel Spirits and go on a journey to save the realm from some great threat (Sacred Beasts, Wickeds, Great Leviathan, Earthbound Immortals, etc...) while teaming up and meeting a variety of other Duel Monsters (like a Red-Eyes that talks like Joey Wheeler for a fun reference). Regarding the banlist explanation: the explanation is always going to be very simple. “This card isn’t improving the profitability or marketability of the overall product.” It all comes back to money. Power-creep and combos like Tenpai or Snake-Eyes move primary market product and move product to the retailer market. They don’t care about one card or another, not really. They care about , “have you bought cards today? How many cases?”, and if you don’t have a satisfactory answer to that, you are an unfortunate accident, not their ideal customer. Basically, if you’re not a whale, it’s pointless.
That’s also why there’s no anime. Rush moves product with Japanese kids. And that’s a major market.
Really, the biggest thing YuGiOh needs is for Konami to manufacture cards and other products, and let another organization outside of the structure dictate the “game” rules.
