  • Note: SimpliSafe now offers self-monitoring, although you’ll only get notifications with the Interactive Plan. They also added a Google Assistant integration, and cloud storage is available separately from monitoring. They’ve also added a professional installation option for $79.

    As far as security systems go, #ADT and #SimpliSafe are at opposite ends of the spectrum. While ADT is the oldest security company in the United States with over 140 years in business, SimpliSafe was founded in 2006 and has continued to disrupt the industry since.

    One major difference between the two is monitoring. While #ADT requires that you sign up for 24/7 professional monitoring with a three-year contract, #SimpliSafe gives you the option to self-monitor, with no long-term contract. However, SimpliSafe’s self-monitoring option basically turns your system into local alarms, not allowing you to livestream footage or receive notifications through the SimpliSafe app, so I recommend doing 24/7 professional monitoring anyway.

    My biggest issue with ADT is the three year contract and monthly pricing. I have experienced other security companies at businesses and they beat the price of ADT time and time again. I have not found anything that makes ADT stand out from all the rest to justify their higher monitoring rate. If you take their monthly rate x 36 it is quite expensive. Technology is constantly changing and three years is a long commitment.

      Adt is okay if you wanna overpay for stuff. Their monthly is between $35-$70 for residential. They charge you an arm and a leg for cameras AND an extra $5-$15 per month. Their customer service is trash and you don't always get a good technician. My first day as an installer at adt was a shitshow. I had very little training and oh it showed. I tried to play it off like I knew wtf I was doing but I had no clue. Once I got more experience, I had to go fix a lot of jobs that were done by guys who also had very little experience. They give their techs so much work that most techs don't give a shit about how good your job is done, they just wanna finish so they can get home at a reasonable time. The only thing I would ever use adt for is an alarm system and only if I lived in a town without any better options. If you're in a city, there's always better options. Response time all depends on the police, not on the alarm company.

      @melissaalbarran3893 Před 4 lety +1

      Alejandra, as an ADT Authorized Dealer, the pricing really isn't as convoluted as people may at first think. Basically, if you are looking for a base system, you get the command panel, 3 doors covered, plus a glass break and motion detector for 47.99 /mo, with a one time 99 installation fee. If you'd like basic interactivity, (the app, and interactivity features) the same system goes up to 53.99. If you want automation, (think door locks, lighting control, thermostats, flood sensors, co detectors, fire detectors, etc.) then the price goes to 58.99 /mo for one peice of automation, or 63.99 per month up to 128 peices of automation per month. Each base automation package includes one peice of automation free, (usually a camera) then the only thing you pay for beyond that is any additional hardware you may want. The reason for the cancellation fees built into the contract is because we literally GIVE YOU (with approved credit and monthly monitoring) over 850.00 of FREE equipment. Not joking-that is the the ACTUAL RETAIL VALUE. So, when considering SimpliSafe, remember-you are going to pay for each and every one of those sensors, but I can give you alot more for free. If you are interested in a further conversation, please let me know. Thanks again!

    One thing you failed to mention is that it is nearly IMPOSSIBLE to get out of your ADT contract once completed. It automatically rolls over for 3 more years unless you cancel over the phone during a 30 day window at month 36. They dont take written notification and I spent almost 2 hours on the phone getting passed around from one agent to the next before I finally got a disconnect confirmation. They very much want you to hang up in exasperation before you get through so that you are locked in for 3 more years. It was a freaking nightmare. I will never go back. By the way, the reason I cancelled is because the pulse system only was online about half the time making all the interactive features useless...at $56 per month for flip phone technology.

    I purchased a house 2.5 years ago which had ADT previously installed, the seller owned all equipment and was left for me. So, no equipment cost from ADT, just monitoring! The nice 3 year contract! First 6 months was $24.99, then increased from there. I received an email this morning stating that starting Feb there is another increase, after taxes and fees it will be over $60 monthly with me owning the equipment and a simple system with pulse option, no cameras, nothing special. I am ordering a simplisafe with many more sensors and devices and installing within a couple months, ADT contract will be over in July. i just finished watching another video, sent to me by an ADT salesman, that is about Simplisafe's system being over-ridable by a simple little channel changer device. I, of course already bought a Simplisafe system but haven't installed it yet. I am disappointed that this comparison video comparing the two side by side doesn't provide any information about whether or nor either system works!

    Btw, the moving policy with ADT is misleading. We got ADT in May 2019 and we are moving to a new house. We called them to tell them that we need to move our security system so here's what they have to say. 1. in order to move all equipment to a new location, we would either need to install new equipment or pay $65 a month and not pay for the equipment fee. 2. It'll be a 3-year new contract. The rep said, the system will have to stay in the house.

ADT as of late has been trying to raise my monthly price (first started at 29, then 31, then 34) and recently tried again, but i pushed back. They said that they were raising prices to better their products.. i said screw you. Keep my price. And lately, given the pandemic and lay off's etc, ive been wanting to lower the price. And i was looking into getting simply safe, but the only concern I have is the fact that it is only 9 AM to midnight for the monitoring. And no one ever knows win crime will never occur.
