    In this video we compare the Ring vs Simplisafe security systems. Both the Ring security system and the Simplisafe security systems are smart DIY security systems that allow you to setup and install your own security system. Neither system requires a long term contract and professional installation is not required.
    Both the Simplisafe and Ring Security Systems provide you with options for self monitoring your alarm system or to connect the security systems to professional monitoring with a live call center that will call to check and make sure you are ok if the alarm goes off or will dispatch first responders if there's an issue.
    Both the Ring and Simplisafe system have wireless battery powered sensors that connect to their respective base stations. Both systems both have keypads that can then be used to arm or disarm the DIY security systems.
    The Ring Security system connects directly to the Ring App and allows you to remotely control Ring Security System from the app, including arming or disarming the system. The app control is free with the Ring App and you can also view your Ring Security Cameras on the same app as the Ring Security System.
    The Simplisafe security system also allows for app control however in order to use the SImplisafe App you must pay for a professional monitoring plan that costs $24.99 per month.
    The Ring Security system does not require a professional monitoring plan to use the app control but if you want to connect your Ring Security system to professional monitoring the cost is $10 per month and also includes 30 days video storage for an unlimited number of Ring Cameras or Ring Doorbells at the same location as the security system.

    This was GREAT!!! Compared to other CZcams videos, yours is the best! You explained everything. The pros and the cons of each of the systems so that I can make my own informed decision. I was able to follow along with your explanation, as you repeated some things that helped me to comprehend what I was hearing. You would make a great teacher! Thank you for sharing.

    I purchased both Ring and Simplisafe. Comparing all the options for home security was the hardest part of the whole process. Installed the Ring first...smooth install, very smooth. Then, based mostly on special pricing and I don't know what else, removed and packed up the Ring and installed the Simplisafe. The install was glitchy due to the fact my router was broadcasting in 5g. I had to change router settings to 2.4mhz because that's all the Simplisafe recognizes. Seemed odd but apparently it works better through walls and floors? News to me but, ok. There were a couple of other times I was on my laptop looking things up and one phone call to customer service. The glitches were early on and then finished up smoothly. After an attempted break-in last week, I slept soundly last night and it was worth the effort. Ring and Simplisafe are probably equal in terms of quality but watch for special pricing for each. I ordered the Ring from Amazon and it was a refurb. Still the Simplisafe with special pricing ended up being the better deal.

      The SimpliSafe system WAS affordable, but with monitoring fees being raised to almost $30 a month it is no longer the most affordable. Frankly, I just moved from SimpliSafe to Ring for three major reasons. First, the ease with which SimpliSafe can be jammed with a $40 Chinese handheld radio. Second, SimpliSafe does not have "Smash and Grab" protection; you have to hide the base station which is not always easy. Third, Ring monitoring is less expensive. It cost $20 a month and if you pay for a year in advance at $200 for the year, it works out to only $16.66 a month. Ring uses Z-Wave for the sensors which is much harder to jam because of the nature of Z-WAVE technology. Ring also has "Smash and Grab" protection. When Amazon puts the Ring system on sale, it can be very affordable compared to SimpliSafe. Also they offer refurbished systems and accessories that really make it affordable and the refurb systems and accessories looks and works just like new. We are much happier with the Ring system and saving money.

    One thing Simply Safe does is warrantee their equipment. I've had their system for about 5 years now. The motion detector in the Family Room quit working. When I called Simply Safe they were unable to send me a new one since their system has changed. So they sent me a whole new system free of charge that included everything on my original equipment which included 16 window and door sensors and everything except for the camera and the water detection which I didn't get through Simply Safe. You can't asked for a better warranty.

    Second generation Ring door sensors use two coin batteries (CR2032) so the sensor and magnet are smaller and lighter. Less chance of falling off the mounting tape. Ring uses Z-Wave radio (908 MHz) new technology, secure. Simplisafe uses 433 MHz, old technology. I use Ring (1st & 2nd gen) and I have installed Simplisafe. I like the Ring app and the lower cost of their monitoring service.

    well ring now has google capability, so ring is definitely one of the best plus monthly cost is just too hard to pass up on. ****Update I ended going with Simplisafe after some long research and happy to say it's been a great product and the application on the phone is a lot smoother to me than ring. Some things I would improve on is having wireless devices that can charge, but I know wired is more secured, just helps in case power goes down. overall love SimpliSafe. I use one Ring camera and pay small 3 bucks a month and that has been awesome too.

    • @Aoekin
      @Aoekin Před 2 lety

      @Major Gear yep they sure do if you don't update your settings and VPN. my suggestion over the time of hard core research is Simplisafe is one of the best. It's a private company and super easy to setup. The App on the phone in my opinion is a lot smoother than Ring's app (they have improved over the years). either way I have both products, but my main one in use is SimpliSafe.

You have to pay for the central security monitoring and they do send alerts to police, I have had great response turn around. The video fails to mention that Ring has "smash and grab" protection and SimpliSafe does not. Something that other alarm systems don't do. On the downside, you have to replace batteries in the keypad every 8 months. Ring has a feature called critical notification which will work even if do not disturb is on and only notifies you if the alarm is triggered, not for motion events that are recorded. This feature will alert you so you can take appropriate action while all other notifications are silenced. Especially great if you're self monitoring.

    This is a great review. I think I’m gonna go with Ring. I have a follow up question - where I live it’s important not to look like you have wealth, and not to look like you’re doing anything to secure that wealth. Also personal property theft up to a certain dollar amount is legal now, and the police here have been almost fully disbanded. In other words, we are on our own and so it’s not a deterrent for thieves when they see any signs of a security camera or an alarm around someone’s home. In fact, according to local online groups and some police officers I’ve spoken to, it’s seen as a sign of wealth that you have something they want to break into your home for. In other words, my question is - Which system is the least conspicuous? I don’t want anyone in my neighborhood to know I’m monitoring my home. It’s not a deterrent where I live, just the opposite. Thank you again for the awesome review!

    Thank you for this in-depth review. My biggest issue is that I live in a rural area with limit internet. So not having everything connect to WiFi is appealing. It’s been really hard finding reviewers who mention that.

    • @jgould30
      @jgould30 Před rokem

      Wifi and rural mean nothing. Wifi is a local networking concept. Maybe you mean connected over your internet service provider (ISP)? Pretty much all systems connect via internet with a mobile GSM failover. Very few modern systems with give you connection to a telephone since phone service almost always runs on the same network backbone as your internet (cable and fiber via VoIP). Even Verizon has abandoned POTS lines.

      @dodgeking9194 Před 3 lety +1

      Thanks to this review and several others by security.org. I went with Ring home security system. To me its the best value for the money. Ring is the cheapest system to buy, Its very simple to set up. Even for a non computer savvy person like me, and what I like about Ring better than its closest competitors such as Simplisafe and Cove is that Ring is the only one that doesn't charge you extra OR make you buy into the more expensive monitoring plans than they advertise to lure customers in just to get access to your doorbell footage. And with Ring you can expand and add as many extra cameras as you like and nothing changes with price. This is just not true with any other security system. Also with ring You have the option to self monitor if you want but the only reason I was even considering self monitoring was the high cost of many of these companies monitoring plans. Ring's $10 a month plan is a bargain compared to every other company out there and its no contract. So I went with it. I hate contracts that lock you into spending with a company. If a product is good and worth it then you don't need to force your customers into contracts to keep their business . Ok so ring doesn't have a fancy keypad that looks like a computer screen but who cares All that is for is to show everyone you have a security system. They don't have key fobs either but considering that everyone has a cell phone and the system is controlled through your phone, you don't really need an extra key fob to add to your key ring. I almost went with Simplisafe because a neighbor has it and he showed it to me and I was sold on every aspect of Simplisafe except one. Simplisafe offers a $15 a month monitored plan but what they try to hide from people is that in order to get full access to your security system you have to pay $25 a month So that axed Simplisafe and I found out Cove dose the same thing. SO for me, Now that I have the Ring system installed and I did it myself I am happy with it. I did opt for the $10 a month fully monitored plan and they give you a 7 day practice period before the system goes live and I tripped it by accident a few times and was immediately called by Ring to see if everything was OK. Also compared to my friends security system from ADT that he has a 5 year contract with and pays $65 a month for monitoring, it works pretty much the same way the ADT system works. Ring's system also has the chimes that go off even when the system is unarmed so when you are home and a door or window is opened the system sounds through the whole house just like all the big expensive companies offer. So for me, for the money in initial cost, and the optional monthly monitoring, Ring is the best system out there and no one else can touch them.

If you can’t get support after the sale and you have to replace your hardware, there’s no value. SimpliSafe hands-down because you can get easy support after the sale.
