Michael McDonald sends himself up in this hilarious parody of his particular style of ballad. This also happens to be my favourite song of his. What a trooper!
Imagine you’re Trey and Matt and within the first few years of South Park, you get the great Michael McDonald to say the lines... “If you want I can get my friend Steve to detail you car, for like 20 bucks” Damn man! What geniuses!
This song makes me tear up... Because I remember when this movie came out... So much time has passed... Things have changed... We're not young anymore...
No, we are not. But we are still here my friend. And now, it's our turn to be the wiser generation. They might not appreciate us now, but as they turn older they will look back and realize we did our best to guide them -- and they'll whisper thank-yous toward the heavens.
This song is some kind of masterpiece. It sounds just like one of those Disney credits songs where they do a pop version of one of the songs in the movie, and if you don't pay attention to the lyrics, that's exactly what it is.
Clever song. You've sat through this gargantuan avalanche of obscenity, this comes on, and for two seconds you go, "Is that a sincere power ballad?!" before you realise what the lyrics are and go, "Oh no - no - that's completely consistent with this after all."
I think Saddam's song was the worst. La Resistance was the "best" because of how they seamlessly mixed all the previous songs together. But "It's Easy, Mkay" was the funniest and catchiest. I still find myself singing that every once in a while.
When I was a kid and this movie first came out I thought this song was hilarious and kind of mean to be honest. Now that I’m an adult with kids, this song is pretty true. Your kids are innocent and undamaged by the world as a whole. You have to try and do right for and by your kids but your imperfect in your attempt. The truth is that we all have the ability to be awful bastards, but kids for a time aren’t like that. Sure that take seems kind of gay, but it doesn’t seem that way through the eyes of a child.
This movie was my introduction to South Park and to me, this movie means a lot. This is still a damn good film and I'm glad this didn't end being the series' swan song.
SP wasn't just about Fart's. It was a clever satirical take. In the hypocrisy of censorship. & It's Over zealousness. That's still still realavant today 😊
I'm a young woman in my twenties and yet I still find this song very relatable. Mainly because of someone with autism and anxiety, the song's message definitely gets me hope despite the silliness it has
It's difficult to describe how much I love both this song and Mr. Michael McDonald for agreeing to sing it. My understanding is that he had severe reservations, and was saying things like "Well, beggars can't be choosers" during the recording session -- but I do NOT care. He still had enough of a sense of humor to do it, and I'm grateful to him, Trey, and Matt for gifting us with this masterpiece that's equal parts beautiful, hilarious, and satirical. Thank you, gentlemen. Thank you so much.
The eyes of a child So innocent and pure A child's heart is full of song Take that tiny hand and lead them to the light As adults, we see pain in the world And it sometimes don't seem right But through the eyes of a child The world seems magical There's a sparkle in their eyes They've yet to realize the darkness in the soul The beauty of a smile Adventurous and wild Life is kind of gay But it doesn't seem that way through the eyes of a child So don't give up Even when the road seems long Just find that child inside of you Yeah you gotta find you Spread your wings and fly To the brightest star If you want I can even get my friend Steve to detail your car For like, twenty bucks But through the eyes of a child They world seems magical There's a sparkle in their eyes They've yet to realize the darkness in the soul The beauty of their smile Adventurous and wild Sure, life is kinda gay But it doesn't seem that way Through the eyes of a child I've gotta eye on my hand I've gotta eye on my hand I've gotta eye on my hand But still I can't find you Eye on my hand Where have you gone, girl? I'm coming up behind you Eye on my hand Don't turn around, now 'Cause I'm right there I'm coming up behind you Through the eyes of a child The world seems magical The sparkle in their eyes They've yet to realize They bastards they really are The beauty of their smile Adventurous and wild Sure, life is kinda gay But it doesn't seem that way Through the eyes of a child Sure, life is kinda gay But it doesn't seem that way Through the eyes of a child
The comic pause after "I'm comin' up behind you"...is absolutely perfect. When he hits "Through the EYYYEEESSSS OF A CHI-ILLLDD" afterwards I want to sing and laugh simultaneously.
Happy 20th Anniversary, South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut!!! Boy, do I get vivid memories when I received this movie on DVD on Easter Sunday from my mom during my Junior Year in High School. (2005 lol... must've been on the clearance rack). Sure, years later after the release, but boy did I pop in this DVD numerous times since then. #OffToTheMoviesWeShallGoWhereWeLearnEverythingThatWeKnow #LaResistanceLivesOn #WhyDidOurMothersStartThisWarWhatTheFuckAreTheyFightingFor #UncleFucka #BestMusicalSinceGrease
This was a musical. And they had a helluva soundtrack. But this is the song that should've won the Oscar. Well, maybe every other award. I kind of wish the whole soundtrack had won something.
I seriously remember as a kid skipping this song thinking "why the hell is this in the south park soundtrack"....and then i started listening to lyrics xD
They wrote that song to use it in promotional material and there was gonna be a music video of this song with Mcdonald with a children's eye on his hand while he sang.
Trey and Matt were trying to make a music video for the movie with Michael Mcdonald playing this song on the beach with his piano and the movie playing on a giant projector screen in the back ground , with wind blowing through his hair hahaha. Like all the Disney movies did back then. I thought they actually did it and I was trying to find it but I cant thats why Im here. I guess it never actually happened. Sad
I could see Mariah singing this one non ironically, and making it work. Its not that much more vacuous than her normal power ballads, and she sounds AWESOME on those :)
This song was deep cause it’s Michael McDonald yet he had to make the lyrics sound so foolish lol. “Sure life is kind of gay but it doesn’t have to be that way, through the eyes of the child.”
"If you want, I can even get my friend Steve to detail your car, for like 20 bucks." I lost it at that part.
I wonder if he could detail the cars my family had in 1999!
I think about this line about once a week - absolutely amazing
Imagine you’re Trey and Matt and within the first few years of South Park, you get the great Michael McDonald to say the lines...
“If you want I can get my friend Steve to detail you car, for like 20 bucks”
Damn man! What geniuses!
This song is heavily underrated.
That was the idea behind this song.
They played this song at the grocery store, hahahaha!. I guess they never really paid attention to the lyrics. :D
lmao
Not too bad tho
Or maybe the coolest grocery store playlist curator to exist anywhere
"eyes of a child? this seem so innocent lets play it"
I mean, it's 90% clean! Lol
Did NOT expect this to actually be THE Michael Mcdonald. Legend!!
And yet it is! He's amazing for agreeing to participate.
Clever song. You've sat through this gargantuan avalanche of obscenity, this comes on, and for two seconds you go, "Is that a sincere power ballad?!" before you realise what the lyrics are and go, "Oh no - no - that's completely consistent with this after all."
It is also a nod to the style in the 90s, when ballads in movies were big.
This is such a great movie! Hope we will get South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut 2 in the future!
This for some reason makes me cry....
me too
Yeah me too.......i remember when you could get your car detailed for 30 bucks. Those days are gone though....
me to
lol
The lyrics are kinda emotional when you think about it
If this song was up against Phil Collins' "You'll Be in My Heart" instead of "Blame Canada," they would have won that Oscar.
+fffan9391
Hell yeah they would've.
I think Saddam's song was the worst. La Resistance was the "best" because of how they seamlessly mixed all the previous songs together. But "It's Easy, Mkay" was the funniest and catchiest. I still find myself singing that every once in a while.
squishy mishy it's not even a real song anyway
Phil Collins sucks ass.
I feel like it would have won regardless since it's a Disney song.... But who knows what could have happened.
This song is kinda emotional. I nearly cried.
'We've yet to realise the bastards that they are' 😂😂😂
Excluding Cartman 😏
This song is very inspiring. Unironically
i think what the song is going for is "finding your inner child can help you get through some tough times"
Through the eyes of a child, the world seems magical
There’s a sparkle in their eyes, we’ve yet to realize
The bastards they really are
Truer lyrics were never sung.
Hey, some kids can be bastards. They do mess with people older than them and get hurt.
If south park ends one day. They should play this song
They should
I wonder if he's ever performed this live, that would be so awesome
Apparently Matt and Trey wanted to do a music video but the studio said no. Such a shame.
i can't imagine a song like this is a fricking South Park movie. This has brought tears to my eyes. well done, guys. well done.
I want this song played at my funeral
+Adam G I can arrange it
With a butters esque portrait in front of the casket lol
Michael McDonald deadass wrote a song for South Park when the show was just getting started
This movie was my introduction to South Park and to me, this movie means a lot. This is still a damn good film and I'm glad this didn't end being the series' swan song.
How the hell does a movie about farts and swearing give me all these feels?
Nostalgia. For me, this was my intro to the series.
SP wasn't just about Fart's. It was a clever satirical take. In the hypocrisy of censorship. & It's Over zealousness. That's still still realavant today 😊
Because its a great movie
I really don't think Nostalgia or being a kid had anything to do with it
One of my favorite songs of all time.
same
My too.
I started bawling 4 times during this movie each time I watched it
take me to your dollhouse what parts?
Same here :'3
when kenny gets his halo and wings from the naked angel ladies? im with ya.
I'm a young woman in my twenties and yet I still find this song very relatable. Mainly because of someone with autism and anxiety, the song's message definitely gets me hope despite the silliness it has

"Just find that child inside of you" said Adam Johnson
That song makes me cry
I agree. also the fact that in the 1990s, ballads in movies were very big, since Disney did it with their animated movies.
Yes very unironic song.
Trey Parker is truly a genius
I remember when I was 3 years and I saw the movie and i loved this song , now cried with emotion 😊
the end tho "the beauty of their smile," I love that part
The eyes of a child
So innocent and pure
A child's heart is full of song
Take that tiny hand and lead them to the light
As adults, we see pain in the world
And it sometimes don't seem right
But through the eyes of a child
The world seems magical
There's a sparkle in their eyes
They've yet to realize the darkness in the soul
The beauty of a smile
Adventurous and wild
Life is kind of gay
But it doesn't seem that way through the eyes of a child
So don't give up
Even when the road seems long
Just find that child inside of you
Yeah you gotta find you
Spread your wings and fly
To the brightest star
If you want I can even get my friend Steve to detail your car
For like, twenty bucks
But through the eyes of a child
They world seems magical
There's a sparkle in their eyes
They've yet to realize the darkness in the soul
The beauty of their smile
Adventurous and wild
Sure, life is kinda gay
But it doesn't seem that way
Through the eyes of a child
I've gotta eye on my hand
I've gotta eye on my hand
I've gotta eye on my hand
But still I can't find you
Eye on my hand
Where have you gone, girl?
I'm coming up behind you
Eye on my hand
Don't turn around, now
'Cause I'm right there
I'm coming up behind you
Through the eyes of a child
The world seems magical
The sparkle in their eyes
They've yet to realize
They bastards they really are
The beauty of their smile
Adventurous and wild
Sure, life is kinda gay
But it doesn't seem that way
Through the eyes of a child
Sure, life is kinda gay
But it doesn't seem that way
Through the eyes of a child

Is Almost Their 22th Anniversary For The Film Because It Was Release On 30 June
This was a musical. And they had a helluva soundtrack. But this is the song that should've won the Oscar. Well, maybe every other award.
I kind of wish the whole soundtrack had won something.
I seriously remember as a kid skipping this song thinking "why the hell is this in the south park soundtrack"....and then i started listening to lyrics xD
"I've got an eye on my hand" - and then it's like, they stop abruptly and go What. The. Hell. Was. That. Part.
They wrote that song to use it in promotional material and there was gonna be a music video of this song with Mcdonald with a children's eye on his hand while he sang.
Listen to the lyrics here & you get an idea behind Trey & Matt's point of South Park.
I never thought of it before, but this song really summarises the premise of the show haha
Kit Palmer
& life in general lol
Trey and Matt were trying to make a music video for the movie with Michael Mcdonald playing this song on the beach with his piano and the movie playing on a giant projector screen in the back ground , with wind blowing through his hair hahaha. Like all the Disney movies did back then.

Steve actually did detail my car! :O
Goddamn, I love how dark this song gets. XD
I come back to this probably every month or so, to remember how good movies used to be
Great song,truly.
Funny yet beautiful.
This movie should be in The Criterion Collection
Or on Warner archive
This child's eyes are crying...
😪😪😪
I could see Mariah singing this one non ironically, and making it work. Its not that much more vacuous than her normal power ballads, and she sounds AWESOME on those :)

I Love this song! :D
“life is kinda gay but it doesn't seem that way through the eyes of a child” - michael mcdonald

But it doesn't seem that way,
Through the eyes of a child...
Does anybody else going full second vocals when hearing this, or is it just me?

This song was deep cause it’s Michael McDonald yet he had to make the lyrics sound so foolish lol. “Sure life is kind of gay but it doesn’t have to be that way, through the eyes of the child.”
Theres a sparkle in their eyes, they've yet to realise the *bastards* they really are
What a song 🤣 what a soundtrack.
D train on vocals in the background
Cute
:-) 💕💗
"the beauty of best buy
never unhear
I like this song better than the song from The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle (2000).
Spread your wings and fly, to the brightest star
If ya want, I can even get
My friend Steve to detail your car
For about twenty bucks
I watched the movie it was very funny and had a good ending
And if you'd like i can get my friend Steve to detail your car, for like, twenty bucks!!
Imagine if they stopped the show at this movie.
Guys out there is hurted!
Sounds like Mackey to me, which makes this 100% funnier
You've ruined Michael MacDonald for me now lmao
I always thought this was Trey singing!
клёва супер
Take Mr hat he must go on
Steve will not detail 1 person's car.
Haha!
I can just imagine "Steve" seeing that thumbs-down and being like "Well... I guess SOMEone doesn't want their car detailed.".
Literally one single solitary person. I love it.
Paul Johnson
Steve has a very short blacklist.
And that ONE person is on it.
If they keep pushing it, they just might make his SHITlist.
Maybe they'll reconsider Steve's offer when a bird shits on their car
For about 20 bucks?
this should be the theme for Chris Hansen, to catch a predator
BLAME CANNADA BLAME CANNADA
I'm willing to bet people realize the darkness in Cartman's soul. 😏
Just saying...
1 is it McDonald playing the actual piano or Bruce Howell? Sounds like McDonald but not sure.
make it in high pitched please?
Anyone got the lyrics??
I gotta talk to steve
3:10
3:22
Who's the second person singing?
nobody 101 same person
I wish I could get my car detailed for like 20 bucks
If you go to 2:51, it would be sadder.
is it sad
