The creators actually wanted to do a parody of the tie in ballad music videos for Disney movies. But the studio wanted a kid rock song as a tie in so they through in the towel
This song, imo, is symbolic of not just the movie, but of South Park in general. It shows that children may seem innocent and view the world as magical, but there is also a hidden dark side to them. In the context of the movie, that can relate to things like the swearing, the bits with Satan/Hussein etc.
holy shot, I saw this movie a million times in the last 10 years and I've never heard this. I'm fucking dying, what a magical song, this is gold. holy shit, holy fuck. ah...fucking fuck lol
As humorous as the lyrics are, this song as a whole including the music is beautifully done. When I listen to this song, I can't help but think back to all the good times I had in my childhood and it does make me a little sad that those years are long gone. Even though my childhood was a long time ago, I'll always treasure those happy memories.
This song just feels amazing, because South Park is an amazing show too. This song just feels emotional, knowing I grew up on South Park so much as a kid and I remember watching this once and loved it. The song’s lyrics are beautiful, meaningful, and despite the movie being a crazy adventure, the song makes you appreciate life as it is. W song.
Trey parker wrote this song. For those who don't know, trey is actually a very talented lyricist. I think he actually studied poetry stuff in college. I think he wrote must of this song from the heart, but he punctuated it with jokes because writing a song like this and being 100 percent serious would have cramped his style. South park was huge at this time so he couldnt just write a love song. He had to funny it up so it would match his public image. I always thought this song was 100 percent serious.
Ling Wang I heard he is actually a huge musical theater nerd, which makes since since him and Matt Stone eventually went on to write the book, lyrics and music for The Book Of Mormon. He actually is a pretty talented songwriter imo.
This is a song you can't appreciate unless you're an adult who've already lost that magical feeling long ago. I remember when I could be amused by everything, when I wasn't such a cynical dipsh*t that can't enjoy anything but the "best". Things that I once loved now seem like sh*t, when I look back there are beautiful memories but when I actually look at the material again, I feel bored to death and lose any and all nostalgia. What wouldn't I give to go back to that time, when I didn't have any real worries, when I didn't live just for the sake of living, when I could have fun with anything and enjoy things for real, not for how much of a "masterpiece" it is but just because of how it's "interesting" and "fun" it is, no matter how bad the story, gameplay or anything else is. To wake up feeling refreshed and happy... To have fun with friends, to not have all of these responsibilities on my shoulders and the mind to care about them too much. Hell, to just be rid of all the different "minor" injuries and lifelong sicknesses I've gathered throughout my life that ends up impairing my quality of life every day, just that alone would be too awesome for words. I mean, don't get me wrong, I still believe in the beauty of life and I still want to make the most out of it, I have times of great joy and laughter, I can find awesome books/novels, games and other stuff that I enjoy extremely much. But to go back to when EVERYTHING was truly enjoyable and fun, not just 1% as it tends to be now, and to go back to the time where I didn't have any issues with an aching body and various illnesses, that would just be too awesome for words. We do find some new entertainment to enjoy as we grow older, interests change and we adapt to still manage to find some way to amuse ourselves and go on even as our quality of life "gets sh*ttier", but it just can't compare to our childhood, not by a long shot, when our biggest concerns were parents telling us to go to bed, not eat this or that, not be out late and that we had to go to school. Back when we were brimming with more energy than we could shed and more spirit and joy than we could handle. Living a rather tired life filled with various annoyances for the occasional glimpse of joy and happiness just ain't the same.
i mean i can relate . im now 34 and miss life when i was around i was 13 (when this movie came out ) things were carefree and less worrisome. the economy was good. seems like the world really did change after 9/11 for the worst. anyone under 30s or mid 20s really dont understand.

[Intro] Mm [Verse 1] The eyes of a child, so innocent and pure A child's heart is full of song Take their tiny hand, and lead them to the light As adults, we see pain in the world And it sometimes don't seem right [Chorus] But through the eyes of a child The world seems magical There's a sparkle in their eyes, they've yet to realize The darkness in their soul The beauty of their smile Adventurous and wild Life is kinda gay, but it doesn't seem that way Through the eyes of a child [Verse 2] So don't give up, even when the road seems long Just find that child inside of you Yeah, you've gotta find you Spread your wings and fly to the brightest star If you want, I can even get my friend, Steve, to detail your car For, like, twenty bucks [Chorus] But through the eyes of a child The world seems magical There's a sparkle in their eyes, they've yet to realize The darkness in their soul The beauty of their smile Adventurous and wild Sure, life is kinda gay, but it doesn't seem that way Through the eyes of a child (Through the eyes, through the eyes) [Bridge] Got an eye on my hand I've got an eye on my hand I've got an eye on my hand But still, I can't find you Eye on my hand Where have you gone, girl? Eye on my hand I'm coming up behind you Eye on my hand Don't turn around now 'Cause I'm right there I'm coming up behind you [Chorus] Through the eyes of a child The world seems magical There's a sparkle in their eyes (Ooh), yet to realize The bastards they really are The beauty of their smile Adventurous and wild Sure, life is kinda gay, but it doesn't seem that way Through the eyes of a child [Outro] Sure, life is kinda gay, but it doesn't seem that way Through the eyes of a child
I always felt this was a PERFECT 90s Musical ending, on par with anything written by Disney and done seriously for a credit scroll. Its actually really great!

This is honestly one of my favourite Michael McDonald songs in South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut. It's gets REALLY good every time I listen to this beautiful and emotional song!
my parents saw this movie. my dad was like 20 and my mom was 14. they said this movie was an experience to see in theaters. my dads fav moment is kenny revealing his face, and it still is his fav sp moment, for my mom, its this song. me and her love this type of music. i watched it myself, since my parents basically rubbed their experiences in my face, and it was epic asf. and this song had me crying, as i am a child, but the world doesnt even seem magical to me anymore 😢
Trey and Matt were trying to make a music video for the movie with Michael Mcdonald playing this song on the beach with his piano and the movie playing on a giant projector screen in the back ground , with wind blowing through his hair hahaha. Like all the Disney movies did back then. I thought they actually did it and I was trying to find it but I cant thats why Im here. I guess it never actually happened. Sad
this song is musically perfect, and produced very well. The reed synth in the intro are the 'eyes' of the child, you can hear the kid lookin' at stuff. B♭ is the most epic of keys.
Shea S If South Park gets a Series Finale I want this song to be its ending theme with clips from the Episodes of the Seasons for the end credits it would be the best and perfect thing for South Park's Series Finale I would totally love it.
When I first heard this in the movie credits I thought it was just Trey Parker singing a really good Michael McDonald impression, then my mind was blown when I learned it really was Michael McDonald who sang this.
When i first saw this movie when i was like 8 i thought this song was song by elton jon. Haha. I obviously didn't get any of the jokes until i grew up but i still thought the film and series were hilarious because of all the swering. I still find the movie and the show hilarious and now I'm older i get all the jokes! Yay!
I'll never forget sitting through the end credits in amazement this is what they chose. Then THAT word came in. Master humorists and trolls, that Parker and Stone.
I feel like the second Trey Parker saw his budget for the South Park movie he immediately set this money aside to achieve his life-long dream of Michael McD performing a song he wrote.
"If you want, I can even get my friend Steve to detail your car for like 20 bucks"
Moving lyrics, right there. Made me tear up.

If South Park does reach its final season they should play this song with a montage of clips of the most memorable episodes in the series finale.
TwilightLink77 Yeah that's perfect for South Park's Series Finale if it gets one.

[Intro]
Mm
[Verse 1]
The eyes of a child, so innocent and pure
A child's heart is full of song
Take their tiny hand, and lead them to the light
As adults, we see pain in the world
And it sometimes don't seem right
[Chorus]
But through the eyes of a child
The world seems magical
There's a sparkle in their eyes, they've yet to realize
The darkness in their soul
The beauty of their smile
Adventurous and wild
Life is kinda gay, but it doesn't seem that way
Through the eyes of a child
[Verse 2]
So don't give up, even when the road seems long
Just find that child inside of you
Yeah, you've gotta find you
Spread your wings and fly to the brightest star
If you want, I can even get my friend, Steve, to detail your car
For, like, twenty bucks
[Chorus]
But through the eyes of a child
The world seems magical
There's a sparkle in their eyes, they've yet to realize
The darkness in their soul
The beauty of their smile
Adventurous and wild
Sure, life is kinda gay, but it doesn't seem that way
Through the eyes of a child (Through the eyes, through the eyes)
[Bridge]
Got an eye on my hand
I've got an eye on my hand
I've got an eye on my hand
But still, I can't find you
Eye on my hand
Where have you gone, girl?
Eye on my hand
I'm coming up behind you
Eye on my hand
Don't turn around now
'Cause I'm right there
I'm coming up behind you
[Chorus]
Through the eyes of a child
The world seems magical
There's a sparkle in their eyes (Ooh), yet to realize
The bastards they really are
The beauty of their smile
Adventurous and wild
Sure, life is kinda gay, but it doesn't seem that way
Through the eyes of a child
[Outro]
Sure, life is kinda gay, but it doesn't seem that way
Through the eyes of a child
"The Eyes of a Child, so innocent and pure"

I bet the creating process was pure hilarity
What a heart wrenching and uplifting song. Surprising that this is on the South Park movie soundtrack.
