this song means so much to me. i grew up listening to this. this is the sound of pure childhood for me. it reminds me of my dad, how he wanted to teach me so much and help me grow. he died of cancer when i was 7. after that, i didn’t hear this song again until i was 14. i was depressed, barely clinging to survival, and at one point nearly tried to end my life. when i listened to this song again, something in me changed. it didn’t cure me, but it gave me a reason to get better. i think i realized that there was a chance i could be happy with life again. im 18 now, an age i thought i would be gone by. i graduate high school in a month, and im attending my dream college in the fall. i still have such a long journey ahead of me. this song saved me. this music video is beautiful. this song is beautiful, life is beautiful. if you’re reading this, you’re beautiful. i know that because you’re alive. keep on breathing. its an honor to be alive with you all

Not sure if he woke up in the middle of the night, but Wikipedia states that a friend called into the studio at 3 AM asking if Iz could come in and record, the guy said only if he could be there in 15 minutes. He came in, sang and played in one take and that was it.

It gets tiring being a good dog all the time, particularly when you get old and your bones hurt and you fall on your face and don’t want to go outside to pee when it is raining but they do because they are a good dog. So understand that after they have been sleeping in your heart, they will sleep longer and longer.
But don’t get fooled. They are not “dead”. There is no such thing, really. They are sleeping in your heart and when they wake up, usually when you are not expecting it. It is just who they are.

This song reminds me of my Mother, she died in 2006 when I was 8, she would always replay this song for me whenever I asked, & she would sing along with me… I’m 26 now sing g this to my 3yr old fighting back tears. EVERYTIME this song plays I feel so close to her.

He was such a loving humble amazing human being but could sing from his soul to touch yours... 2001 what was the first time I heard him sing this when I was driving to Nevada and then they used it in the TV show ER when one of the doctors died.... But the tribute is exactly what should be done a celebration of life.... Joy and happiness that he is still young and handsome and in good health and singing with the choir in heaven.... Selfishly a lot of us are sad that he left so soon way before his time.. thank you IZ... You continue to make moments of my life just so much sweeter....
