  • (0:42) Former Chelsea midfielder Craig Burley says Maurizio Sarri's defense of his tactics and decisions at the club is becoming increasingly more "bizarre." (2:30) Ale Moreno is most critical of Sarri's lack of in-game adjustments. (4:50) Gab Marcotti defends Sarri's "Plan A" which ignites Steve Nicol (8:31) who is baffled by Sarri throwing his staff under the bus, adding that he's "getting everything wrong."

FIrst time I've watched any ESPN content in ages. I can't believe they still employ Burley and Nicol. Surely to god this is not what the audience demands in 2019. Two absolute dinosaurs stuck in the dark ages. Sarri certainly hasn't got everything right, not by a long score, but the notion that idiots like Burley and Nicol can just casually glance at some Chelsea highlights and identify what he should be doing instead is fucking ludicrous. Sure he could use his squad better, and Hazard at a nine has not worked at all, but some are the other criticisms (like Jorginho/Kante) are fucking retarded. These people simply do not watch football. They might have football games on in the studio or at home, but they are certainly not watching.

Hazard is playing like an individual......he gets annoyed we ain't giving him the ball every 2 minutes, then comes WAY out of position into the defensive third to COLLECT...and then lose it. Pedro with age has started to release the ball less frequent than just last season or the season prior. Willlian is the same old Willian. Sarri is at fault for one thing.....and that is starting Alonso for so long, but even that has been rectified. I support coach Sarri 100 percent on his approach and comments. I remember when Pep and Manchester City came to Stanford Bridge (after Chelsea had won the league with Conte) and Chelsea won the game 2-0. Manchester City dominated possession and had more chances than Chelsea during this game but Chelsea had 30 percent ball possession and 2 shots on target and Chelsea won the game 2-0 (happy days i thought after the game). However during the post match interview Pep said he was very happy with the performance of his players because they were able to dominate ball possession and create more chances to score against the PL champions at the time (Chelsea) at Stanford Bridge - that to me as a Chelsea fan says it all. If Chelsea want to be a dominant force both in England and Europe, Chelsea players need to learn to play their own game with personality, identity and without fear, dominate possession, be patient to create their own chances and take the chances to kill off games. As a so called big team you cannot carry on to expect to have 20 percent of the ball with 1 shot on goal and expect to win games both in the PL and Europe and expect progression as a club. Coach Sarri spoke about Barca' or Real playing football with personality and identity- look how well they do very season.

As someone who's watched every single game or Chelsea, I would say with this squad Sarri hasn't been as good but I don't expect, essentially didn't expect a lot - top 4 is relative to our level as this Sarri Ball is quite like an arcade type of game, at its best it's very quick transition, fast thinking, attempting narrow circuit based routines, and we're not seeing it but the first half vs the cherries, it was reminiscent of Napoli Sarri in some ways, build up mostly but that in itself is pivotal to Sarri at least, and in many forms he excites me but hinders himself a bit, Italian stubbornness costs with imperfections
would say Sarri simply needs to invest time into strategizing a second formation (424/442)and in game knowledge, differing his stance from the Prem > Serie A. it was a lot more open there and who knows truly, if Sarri Ball can work to what he thinks it can - the reason I say this is because his style is probably the most unique I've ever seen in my time anyway, so perhaps a midfielder like Golovin is the solution. it's the only true issue in our side from competing against Liverpool/City, second tiers being CB, RB, LB, possibly RW if Hazard goes and Pulisic is solely RW

An interesting discussion. Quite liked it, luvs. In my view, the players are to blame. This is the 3rd manager who's had problems with these set of players.
The 1st manager they can possibly get away with blaming their fall on him, a 2nd manager is pushing it but still doable if not cowardly, but a 3rd boss is just taking the mick. Heck no. That team needs a complete and utter overhaul in the summer, including Mr Liability, Eden Hazard. He's supposed to be their best player but where is he when things go south? Say what you will about Pogba, but at least he has the drive and charisma to spearhead his team to a comeback like when Jose's Man Utd rallied to beat Newcastle 3-2. Now, if that were Jose's Chelsea side of their nightmarish 2015/16 season, I don't see them coming back.
It says a heck of a lot that United were still in 6th and within distance - albeit lengthy - of the top 4 despite Jose leading them to their worst ever start while Jose's Chelsea lingered near the relegation zone following theirs.
I rest my case. Those players have become too comfortable and must be replaced with actual quality if Chelsea wants to achieve greatness again.

Personal I think we are missing lots of things at Chelsea. Do we have a playing culture like Barcelona has?
At Barcelona you touch Leo Messy you are finished.
Sarri's issue is different from Conte. Conte killed himself by chasing a proven striker in Costa that won the league for him previous season and bought someone who hardly had Game time at Real Madrid. The guy failed terribly.
When Jose came back to Chelsea he brought back Drogba because he wanted to take pressure away from Diego Costa to give him time to settle in.
Now Sarri is coming in and want sadden change by not working well with players.

Why is anyone surprised that Maurizio Sarri is not succeeding at Chelsea? Anyone who has watched Italian soccer over the past decade knows he’s an above-average manager who has a mentality that he is world class. Sarri has never finished above 2nd place in any competition he has been a manager in, and he was a manager in serie B at one time lol. True, Empoli earned promotion, but they still finished second place in the league that year. He also never finished above 2nd with Napoli so let’s stop pretending a manager who has never won a single competition he has been a part of is world class. But it must always just be his players fault for not implementing his champion winning system properly, never mind that his so called “champion winning system” has never actually won a championship at any point in his career. And once again, this guy coached multiple season in the “serie B.” I am an Italian soccer fan and regardless of the top league, serie B is complete trash lol.
