- In this video I install a key lock box to a brick wall. The item fitted is a Master lock combination 5 key safe. These are useful if other people need access to a property, such as carers etc.

You make some great comments about these boxes. Respectfully I would suggest never mount these boxes in plain view, put them around the corner or even inside a shed door where opportunist thief's can see them. Don't use these as a permanent home for the spare key, just a place to put the key when you are expecting someone to visit and will need access. Check your home insurance, I wouldn't be surprised if the use of this box would invalidate your home insurance.

Good point about insurance👍🏼
Nice dry day, here in Darwen (for now). I’m off out to do some pressure washing 😉
I hope everyone has a great Sunday 😉
The Lock picking lawyer shows how easy the masterlock is to break into for a beginner. It's often quicker than putting the code in. The weakness is due the tolerances of construction.
There are more secure options by other manufacturers.
Pressure washing is that washing whilst under pressure or the old jet wash thing😉🤣.
For the hole drilling, I often drill one hole, mount the unit with that one screw then drill through the other holes as a guide to get started, before removing and then using the hammer action, helps get all the holes in the right place.
👍
If you are buying one of these I'd go with the Supra branded ones with the push buttons, they're a lot more secure and you can't see the mechanism through gaps. Masterlock dial combination locks you can easily work out the code. They do also introduce letter buttons to make it more complex. The downside is you can only use a character once in the code and the code can be put in in any order.
As a visiting carer myself another thing I'd say is generally 4 number combination locks often only have about fifteen possible combinations due to the insistance of making them people's birth years.
If your dad is 70 don't have her code being 1953. I've had to attend people's houses in an emergency and just guessed my way in based on knowing how old they are.
Supra is not much better unless they updated them. plenty of videos showing them being easily opened. Some police forces recommended them for storing spare gun cabinet keys , lots of people then ditched them after seeing how easy they were to open .
Fitted one this week. A very sturdy item
@@kwakamonkey They have been updated to overcome the lever moving vulnerability.
I've used one for the past 20+ years (the Supra brand) but would personally be terrified at having it out in the open easily seen and able to be attacked, video camera or not. I drilled out the mounting holes a bit larger and used lag bolts, plus installed it in a hidden spot where it is completely concealed.
👍
Thanks another great video
You are welcome
Thanks for the comment 👍
Good few of them around i have noticed through work. Always wondered about the insurance side if then leaving a key in a easy to open box like this. The combination lock also rusts destroying it after a few winters.
👍
Thank you.👍👍

Weve got these at work.
I wouldnt like to trust this with the key to my house!
I imagine someone could chisel it off the wall, take to a safe location, take their time opening it,probably with a grinder, then return to your property to carry out a heist!
Yeah, like I said in the video, these are probably easily defeated.
Great for the kids though, when no adult is there to unlock the door 😉

So I fitted a lock box this week. Firstly put it out of obvious sight and not by the front door. Also get a police approved lock. I fitted a supro which is button code rather than combination roller. A lot better made than the dreadful masterlock product.

When my late Mother needed one of these a Council workman expertly supplied and fitted it for not much money as part of their service. Check if your council also offers this service if you need one.

Get a Knox box. Tough as nails but they do cost a couple hundred.

I see a lot of these master lock locks being fitted, especially outside elderly people's front doors. They are very easy to pick using a shim. I know you address this but to be honest these make security worse.
👍
So, essentially you are replacing your fancy, expensive door lock with a 4 digit thumb lock. Hmmm.
I guess it’s useful if many people need to share a key.
The main problem is the combination being shared with every man & his dog. The combination needs to be changed regularly - rarely happens of course.
@ddatta56
Great for the kids, as they can’t be trusted taking a key to school 😂
The key is not in the lock box all the time, and it might be a key that opens another building, where the real house key is hidden 😉

I had exactly this model. Installed it. It failed the very first time I needed to use it because a few months in the open gummed the works up.
No problem. I set the password then I opened it with a screwdriver. I’ll not be using this one again.
😱
These are just trash. To open, use something like an Apple sim card key and slip it between the wheels on the left at the base. Turn the wheel until you feel a flat spot. When all wheels are aligned it should open. If not, turn all wheels together 1 step at a time until it does.
The more expensive models with separate push buttons for each digit plus A & B are much more secure.
Far safer to hide the key somewhere in the garden. This advertise where the key is and even a novice can get into them in less than a minute.

Real English weather😢
Yes, as soon as I start doing a job outside, it always starts raining 😂

I want to fit toilet roll holder..can you please do a video of how to fit one ..Thanks
Are you joking?
@waynekerrr9027
If it’s a tiled surface, you can often just use silicone, which saves drilling the tiles (perfect for inexperienced DIY’ers) czcams.com/video/eyzXyKCGQX4/video.html&t

Oh god dont put that type on any wall! 99% of them are rebranded and made in china by same factory ,they are so bad that you can decode one with a peace of beer can after watching 5 min youtube video .I never did it in a life and first try took me 10 min .THATS HOW BAD THOSE COMBINATION LOCKS ARE !
Thanks for the comment 👍
I wouldn't recommend fitting one of these on full view or externally at all, as they extremely easy to open.
I've refused to fit these, especially for pensioners who require care workers as my consciece wouldn't allow it.
