- It is February 16th, 2019 in NWPA. The sun is going down and the temperatures are dropping fast. I have no sleeping bag or tent. Instead, I have a wool blanket, a wool coat and a 70-year old piece of canvas called the plash palaktas. This is my 3rd trip winter camping in 3 weeks. These trips have also been my first experiences ever with camping in winter.
You're one of the few CZcamsrs that I can just sit down and relax to, you got great content man👍
@@Tenalach02 Thanks my friend, appreciate it. Cheers 🤝
I just bought a 1951 Canadian army wool great coat for 50$ at my surplus store because of you Endurance room......THANKS !!!
😉
Francois Houle YESSS!!! Enjoy brother
No bugs in winter, nice!
Just FYI they're called Plash-palaTKA (not palakta) greatcoats - плащ-палатка шинель, in case any of y'all want to buy one.
Nice job reworking your axe...woods
Thank you! Definitely was an upgrade to the stock job. Cheers
great video man. i have had a greatcoat for 8 years now. love the thing. so warm. heavy but i deal with it.
Thanks! Yeah, they are heavy, but offer so much protection. Adding a canvas poncho over top is super warm. Cheers
Another great video my friend 🤠
amazing, you touched on, used all the stuff I love to play with, great video, and the way you have the shelter set up is a great idea.
ed swede Thanks, Ed! Its all been a work in progress, but thats half the fun, figuring this stuff out.
Great video!
Subbed. Thanks for sharing, looking forward to more. Take care, atvb. Steve .👍👍
thanks, Steve! Appreciate it.
It's great going out and experimenting with different gear learning along the way what works best and what doesn't work at all. It 's a learning experience that few will ever know but we can pass it on ,,,,, as long as we don't die in the process ,,,,, lol. Great video. Awesome Great Coat and Loving your channel keep up the good work.
Peter McPherson Thanks Peter! I am really enjoying these trips. Learning more each time out, slowly refining the process. The coat was a great addition. Seems to be quite a few of them out there. Cheers
Good one, I much prefer camping out in winter.
Regards, Keith.
Thank you Keith for showing how to do a flint and steel fire. It's how I start my camp fires using your method. Jess check him out if you haven't.
Awesome stuff as always Jess. Check out the Siberia log fire.
Nate
Great camp, awesome location!
SurvivorMetalMan thank you! cheers
Hi Jess ..
If you see this .. this one has just popped up on my feed.
👍👍👍 ..
Going forward to the now, it's nice to see that you haven't deviated from the spirit and content of your posts .. unlike many other You Tubers out there who dump a neverending stream of 'new gear' onto the channel, 'unbiased' reviews .. much of which just 'variations on a theme' / consumerism for the sake of and beyond the price range of many of us.
A nice blast from the past this one and a good reminder to never forget our roots. Winter is again with us and my Woollen Budget Store Top Coat, together with a vintage Cashmere Wool Scarf, is been brought up from the Cellar and hangs at the front entrance.
Thanks, my Friend and take care .. Tommy
Thanks Tommy! This was one of my favorite trips. A lot of trial and error. Coyotes came in close that night. Must have gotten a kill, because the racket they made was an absolute frenzy. There I was, fire burnt out, batteries in my headlamp about toasted, thinking I had worse things to deal with than the cold 🤣 Good times. I have been fortunate with the channel and the gear these past few years. It has been compensation of sorts. It is nice, but at the end of the day, gear is not the end all be all. For me, it is spending time in nature and developing skills. Have a good one my friend 🤝
@@EnduranceRoom 👍
am watching your newest video with the Great Coat! My gosh it has been two years !
Very good job thanks
Willis Blevins thanks Willis!
Keep it up. Enjoy the videos.
thank you Alex! cheers
i agree bud. wool to insulate and the ole cotton canvas to windbreak. i want a canvas anorak one of these days. the one from boreal mountain is super nice but i must save my pennies.
You could make one with a speedy stitch surprisingly easy. A palatka or something similar folded in half, cut a T (sized to arms and torso), the remaining material use for hood and pocket.
Like a boss 🤙🏼
Thank you! I sure am enjoying the process. Still make lots of mistakes out there, but enjoying every minute.
Ganhou um seguidor no Brasil.
Coroporal sent me over. Good video.
Thank you! Welcome to the channel!
nice greatcoat
Never used one cant really tell ya what I like . But it would seem a plow point might be warmer
Corporals Corner sent me :-) I just saw a few of your vids. Looking forward to some in warmer climate. I like you modding your own kit. I myself would not choose to be without my Carithia Sleeping bag in the cold. BTW are your traps getting you some food? i would love to se more of that.
UNSEEN POWER thanks! I heard those bags are nice. Haven’t been trapping lately, due to the area. But add bait and they work.
Hey awesome video.
Just wanted to ask what side you get your great coat in, and would you advise getting the coat in a size large then a regular coat? Like let I usually get a coat in 42 inch chest, so would I be better off sizing up for the ability to fit more layers under the coat, or would a great coat come in an already larger size of that scale.
Just curious on reference, I've been trying to get my own, thanks for any help/advise.
Felix Wulf awesome! Yeah, I am not sure on the size of my coat honestly. I Would try a few on if you can. They are fantastic. I would go a little large so you can add layers . I can wear mine over my anorak, which is awesome for sleep wear. Good luck in your search! Sportsman’s Guide has some Czech greatcoats that look pretty sharp.
@@EnduranceRoom thanks for the advise, I settled on a nice Bulgarian coat, not had a chance to test it in the cold but giving it a try in the summer time has let me known its gonna be perfect at keeping me warm, thanks for the help
Hi, sir. It's Plash Palatka in Russian
Get an army poncho and call it a day!
Greetings friend from afar. Your hoodie looks nice and warm. Where did you get it from/what type is it if you don't mind?
Geralt.Of.Arabia greetings! the hoodie is in the style of an anorak. it is something I made from a wool blanket. Was fairly simple to put together, just a little time consuming.
Do u know wha kind of great coat that is as I’ve been looking for one like that for a very long time
Tan Gwyllt this an early 2000s British military. I haven’t seen any exactly like it, but occasionally sportsmen’s guide has some that close
Endurance Room ah awesome I’ll be doing some research tonight they should. Be easy to find as I live in wales 🏴
That hoody looks cosy, where did you get it? Is it wool?
Yes, it is a wool blanket I turned into an anorak.
Nice Video... great Channel.... 👍 Sub for you....
Is that a civilian coat or what country did it originate from?
It is british, early 2000s I believe. I cut the brass buttons off and used some deer antler instead.
@@EnduranceRoom I thought it might be British, the triple buttoned back belt, full back pleat and single breasted design were the main clues. The tail buttons are there from the age when greatcoats were the soldiers main blanket. A great find for $30.
TurtleWolf Pack thanks for the info! cheers
Nice Setup Man, Was that Birch bark you gave life to that fire the Next morning? 🔥, Hope you were warm enough, Investing in a Nice Pair of German Military Wool pants Myself New England can be cold on a Winter day & night, Great coat like the Antler buttons, Right up My Alley $30 is a Score Man, Maple is the way to go 🍁, Where did you get the kukri from? Safe Travels, Beantown 🇺🇸👍🏻☘️
