Overnight JERVEN TENT heavy rain Norwegian Special Forces Thermal Shelter
An overnight camping trip in the rain. On this trip, I used a Jerven Fjelduken Original as my shelter. It is a thermal cloak and can be combined with Tent Ends to form a nice sized 2 man pup/baker tent. The tent is thermally lined with a heat reflecting lining. It warms up with your body heat. Very interesting piece of gear, that is also highly multifunctional.

Thanks for this great overnight in a beauty nature. Have a nice day 😏
Great night out Jess. Those tent ends really add some versatility to an already great piece of kit in the Jerven.. Be great to see them up close. Happy Father's Day to ya as well. Nate
Nice large Shelter Very relaxing video . Thanks Jess .
🙏❤️ Love Scotland ❤️🙏
Another Gooder Jess
Those tent ends make the Jerven original HUGE! Great looking set up and awesome trip even with the rain! 🌧️ reminds me of a modified lavvu/pup tent shelter. ❤
Outstanding sir
*Dude!* I have no idea where you came up with the idea to use a folding, stainless steel, perforated steamer basket for an improvised twig stove, but I really like the concept. As a retired chef I can readily see both the advantages and disadvantages of the steamer basket as a twig stove and without ever having used one the advantages probably outweigh the drawbacks. *Great video, by the way!*
The idea's been floating around some German CZcams channels for some years. But I would not be surprised if it is a lot older than that, it is just too simple & good!
you have great content!! thanks for all the video!!
Thanks for watching. The jerven thermal tent is pretty amazing. Huge thank you to Better Bushcraft. More info/links in video description. betterbushcraft.com/products/jerven-fjellduken-original-mountain-camo?_pos=1&_sid=bc0025298&_ss=r
What is the little device you use to keep the corners on the net tight on the long rope?
I just use the tie offs on the USGI net, wrapped around ridge line into a prussic knot that allows me fo tension them off. The other net, I think I just used a prussic loop on my ridge line to tension it.
More please!
Love your work man! One of my favorite channels. Wondering if you have an idea what temperature the Jerven would be be comfortable to as a hammock underquilt.
Thank you! It would really depend on the rest of your sleep system. I have had it out in -30F, but with a zero degree bag, sleeping mat, and layers.
We were in a truck😂camper in upstate . Someone or something wanted us to leave !!
I am looking for about your products place lace me a massage. when I post this,I am looking for more information on this. Looking for more things in a bag or can find one bag
What is up?
Do you do martial arts?
I did for a long time.
@@EnduranceRoom what type, if you don’t mind me asking
That ALICE pack is definitive Old School, good and some bad memories with it (Frame), and I'm telling my age lol. I was not nice to my gear and it held up. For Bushcraft, it's a winner. At my age, I'm a sucker for the hammock. I enjoy your thought process on the subject and subbed.
I like watching it
I love multipurpose gear. One thing that's stopped me buying a swagman is my assumption that: in warm weather it seems too hot to wear but good to sleep in and in cold weather good to wear but not warm enough to sleep in. I find it hard to imagine using it as a poncho and a sleeping bag in the same day.. at least while moving. I can imagine using it when more stationary. Would love to hear if this is the case or not.
In warm weather, primarily used as part of sleep system and as a warming layer in mornings. During colder months, it is a quick warming layer for breaks, and still used as part of sleep system in a layered modular setup, allowing for a lighter weight sleeping bag. Same use as woobie, just a bit more functional/easier to use.
@@EnduranceRoom Thanks for this perspective! I also wonder about dual use bedding/outer layer when it comes to wet/moisture. Normally I try and keep my sleep gear dry at all costs, an outer layer is the one exposed to the most elements.. I guess Helikon say if worn it can work with a GI/US poncho over the top. Very cool piece of kit for the load-out puzzle.
This is a very helpful vid, I remember my first night out, I was freaked out but thank God I got through it. On your first night, my suggestion would be, don’t be far from home /safty. Build your confidence up. I wasn’t far from safety/home. The fire made enough light to where, I felt comfortable. Eventually, I drifted off to sleep. I think I spent 2/3 nights out there. Try not to wait until you have to because something has happened, I think you know what I’m getting at.
Another good one, Jess! To the basickit I would add a whistle & a mirror. Take care. I hope that it is not as hot up your way as it is in NE Alabama!
Thanks, George! Good additions. It was hot for awhile, but has cooled back off almost to freezing at night. Have a good one!
Would love to see a in-depth video on the tarp setup
Sawyer Treatable Single Bed Mosquito Bed Net w/ Treatment Kit $15 78”L x 32”W x 59”H Mine is a bit different but worked! I would like to try smaller trim pieces around the edge of my poncho or tarp so I can have rain & bug protection but I don’t have a ground bathtub type protection other than a tent ground sheet for now I’ll look into what you have & use if it’s posted? Thanks!
The primary skill needed for bushcraft is stone knapping.
Depends what flavor you are into.
its NOT cloudy or raining, NO way this is Upstate NY :)
That’s really cool, I have one of those nets that goes over the pup tent, haven’t used in in years
Thanks! They are good nets, just a little on the heavy/bulky side
I used it over my UL 1 person tent frame! Works really really well! If I could post pics you’d be amazed!
That's cool, Jess. Didn't know they had the reversible Swagman's now. Thanks for sharing. 👍🏻
Thanks Jeff. 🤝
Nice ones man. I am always experimenting with my US bugnet and tarps...
Thank you! I like to call it shelter origami. Keeps it interesting.
What was the first bug net?
There was a USGI bug net and POMOLY FORT inner tent
This filter is not equal to the Grayl since it does not take out viruses (and likely other contaminants). Thus the filter life difference. Choose the one that meets your needs, but don’t assume they are the same.
Where are their experiments? Where is their data? Just because they say it does something, don’t assume it to be true.
That was pretty cool man!
Thank you!
@EnduranceRoom you're very welcome buddy!!
👍👍👍👍👍🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
😎👍
There is green, there is water (especially when raining)
I have one of these, it's mint condition, with the tailored in insect nets. I was hoping you could tell me what they retailed at with Russian Cold Camo, as I'm trying to sell mine, and can't find a good reference for a price. Got lots of people telling me it's only worth 60 bucks, but honestly, I couldn't even buy the fabric for that. It's a really wonderful piece of kit.
They are great kit. They sold for $300. There were european vendors selling them for $80 plus shipping. Somebody will be interested in it for sure.
Very cool! I got the regular us woodland one last year and it’s awesome
Nice! Woodland with is super cool.
Good stuff Jess. I have the basic model and it is a must have in my kit.
Thanks Jay! Really versatile piece of kit. One of these days, check out the jerven hunter. They are pricy, but well worth it.
↟↟Hey Jess🙌🏻 This stuff from Helikon looks pretty cool. I've never used such gear in my outdoor activities but l like its functionality 👍🏻 Thanks for the review Brother.. Cheers
Hey Alex! Thanks Brother. It is an interesting concept that has been around for awhile. A wool blanket with a head hole comes to mind. They did do a nice job with it though. Have a good one! 🤝
I have that camo. In the first addition bro. Great minds think alike. Lol. Thank you for your videos. Cheers 🍻
Nice! Pencott is excellent camo for sure. Cheers
👍👍 I'm Definitely going to look at one of those 👍👍
They are really nice. I love the multi-functionality of it. That being said, the basic model is well worth a look, too. Same function, half price.
@@EnduranceRoom the multifunctional option is Definitely what has my interest. Off hand I can't think of anything I have that doesn't have or can't be used in at least two roles.
Ooooow... Filthy idea! Stuffing it loose in pack stops things rattling too. Nice if you like to shoot things... Camera! (What did you think I meant?) Legend mate, cheers! Universal Sovereign Citizen
Thanks Brother! Camera lol Keeping things quiet is a skill in and of itself for sure. Cheers my friend 🤝
A well thought out multi purpose product! Just got my first Helikon Tex product the otherday. A chest pack numbat. Looks like they make really solid stuff. // Nixe
Nice! The Numbat looks really interesting. I have only heard good things about it. I was actually checking them out before I got my ASKARE. KAHAKKA is coming soon.
Curious what that would look like at night with night vision and thermal??
Probably looks like a giant day glow sticker. It is definitely a commercial/general public level item rather than tactical. For that consideration, something like Särmä cloak or Jerven would be a better option.
LOL, just a month or so ago I finally bought a Swagman Roll, but I didn't know they'd come out with a reversible one. Looks like I may end up with another Swagman roll. ;)
Great product. I like the one with the 2 german camo patterns. A bit out of my price range at the moment unfortunately. Nate
The basic is really solid. Does all the important stuff, just doesn’t have the camo or chest pocket.
👍🏻👍🏻
🤝
I love your videos man, I’ve learned a lot from you and corporal Kelly, just watching CZcams videos. I can’t afford the quality gear so I’ve been rigging up a bushcraft style pack for my needs. Keep up the awesome content ! 🫡
Thank you very much. Honestly man, it’s not about the gear at all. I know I show a lot of stuff on here, but that is a large part of how I get compensated for my time. Before all that, I was doing this stuff for years with bargain bin surplus and things that I either made or modified myself. You can make the most useful kit imaginable with a speedy stitch. Just keep it up. Find what works for you and run it for all it’s worth. 🤝
@@EnduranceRoom yes sir! We have a family camp outside of newcomb just before long lake, and I must admit the mini head net is key! Check out BYE BYE BLACK fly my grandpa swears by it but I say there is nothing for those suckers except deal with em or get a head net lol! Safe camping brother
👍 Don't lose faith, mate. Price and so-called 'quality' are not joined at the hip. The pricing of high-end 'bespoke' gear is often set at 'what the market is prepared to tolerate'. More than a fair amount of my gear is 'budget', mil surplus .. even personal issue dating back to 1968, 'reclaimed' from the kitchen (🤫) or 'homemade' .. and it does the job. Ignore the hysterical marketing out there (some bordering on BS .. they are desperate that you drop what you have and buy their products .. and then later drop that in order to buy something even newer that they are trying to convince you, that you cannot do without). I tend to 'keep' (and use) gear. Any comments to the effect, "its old and 'heavy'" are met with, "yes, but has been paid for, long time now and I'm the one carrying it." Walk your own path and do what suits and is good for you.
I like the reversible idea . No use for a snow pattern down here in Hell’s Kitchen though . Been looking at them for a good while. Wish they made a tall and wide . Any issues with the opening for the head being tight ? I’ve seen that mentioned quite a few times . Have a good one brother
Thanks brother. It is solid. I think the basic is a really good option too. Very much a wearable woobie. Head hole hangs up on my hat if I try to put it on while wearing it. It would be an easy mod to widen it, one small cut and a couple stitches.
I bought the Mitchell pattern version. I wish they would continue the line. #helikon #swagman
Would love to see a video of it, considering that pattern as well.,
