Vasyl Lomachenko using head movement. I'm not a trainer or teacher, just a fellow learning about boxing and sharing what I learn. Southpaw boxing film study.
His style is so calculated, thought out, and unpredictable. His punches flow so perfectly with his movements and tendencies. Every movement branches off into a dozen things that would make your head spin.
Great video, it took me a few months of sparring to realise that so much of boxing is anticipation instead of all reactive, this video would have saved me a few months and quite a few less shots to the head! More can be learnt from this than many tutorials on head movement on the tube! Great video!
1. Observe 2. Anticipate 3. Dominate. This video is all about "observing" reactions and "anticipating" the particular responses. Part II, whenever it gets uploaded lol, will be about how to take advantage of the openings and eventually "dominating" the fight. You can see Loma progressively run through this process every fight.
Russ James totally agree, you’ve got a good teaching mind! I see mayweather doing the same process in his own way, perhaps more defensively. It’s almost as though once the opponent has run out of ideas and all their attacks have been nullified, these masters just walk in and take their shots from the safety of their ability to anticipate the opponents reactions. Gotta love this sport!
I am liking Lomachenko more and more as I watch. Intelligent boxing, aggressive countering... Thanks for the breakdown, I really dig your chart. I'm also a southpaw. Like!
I love the full breakdown and the technicality explorer in this vid. Don't see too many in depth explanations, examples like this on CZcams. Great video
If you learn to master this (frames, head movement and footwork), you’re essentially 75% of the way to being a boxing god. All of your offensive and defensive movement will come from this.
very informative, presented very well so easy to digest, I learned a lot about fighting in general from this vid alone since it seems that Vasyl has mastered the concept of fighting in his discipline similarly to what Bruce Lee did for martial arts particularly with their use of flow states. That style leads right into becoming one with the fight or being "water" or going into flow. Keep up the good work.
Bruh, the editing and graphics on this video are f’kn dope man! Great job on that alone! While my small corner of the boxing world doesn’t recognize a low center or high center and only has 5 head slots, this was an interesting video. Loma is certainly a master at feinting head to toe.
Another nice vid from you!.Subscribed. Great visualization by the way! I'm watching Loma since amateurs and I have learned how to do this stuff in the ring on my own. So I can also confirm that it works just as you have described. The only thing maybe I would add: these movements are not only allow you to defend/slip/..., but also are a great help in creating openings. I call it an 'active defense' or "aggressive defense". Especially useful when the opponent is not an offensive fighter or his reach is much longer than yours or he just likes to box from a long range or you just want to see what he throws. So basically you provoke his attack which you can counter afterwards. I believe that Loma (or his father) took the idea of it from Tyson/Cus d'Amato. Loma also has stated quite often that Tyson was one of his favorite boxers when he was young. But he along with his father went far beyond with this technique than d'Amato did.
@Tim Hanselbach and how do you block? you forgot something very important bro, the guard is maybe the most simple thing, but its also the most important one.
Very good video and observations. This is why Loma will do well with anyone they match him up with. He's just not there to be hit. Power doesn't matter if you can't land it. I have Garcia quitting in 6 to avoid more embarrassment, and as Sosa put it- "wear and tear".
I believe that breaking down Vasyl's boxing style is UNFAIR ❗❗THOUGH I see the benefits to boxers in different classes, the video breakdowns of EVERY LITTLE MOVEin his boxing style laid out so all of his future opponents don't have to try and find an edge, poring over videos of his past bouts. All the style"broke down for the clowns" Seems like an UNFAIR ADVANTAGE being HANDED TO his future opponents. Thank you all !!!
great videos Russ.. we learn a lot of your videos.. tell me.. can you make a video about Lomachenko Linares Fight with techiques used of both? Thank you.
BRO!!!! That's what I was saying. As soon as it popped up I'm like, "I don't give a damn what the content is. The music alone is going to make it great" All Vasyl content is great though. Big Ups Russ James boxing!!!!!!
I know this is very 4yrs late, but at past my 50's and getting back into sparring semi-light gonna be film studying these types, especially help's that I am a natural Southie as well.
Mr Russ James! - just discovered you mate! & it was my Birthday yesterday! Can't believe how few views you get! Like Reemus Boxing channel - you will love his work. You are in the pantheon of top analysts - there are approx 12 I follow along with all the boxing nerds! Man! You did bio-mechanics & positioning! BALANCE! Broke it down scientifically! All that JAZZ! What's the tune? Thank you Sir! Nick
Thanks fellow. Reemus has got some good stuff over there. Who else do you have in that "pantheon" of yours? songs are by Budos Band - King Cobra and Crimson Skies.
Thanks Russ. My pantheon(!) always looking for more...Who do you have btw - anyone not on my list ? Let me know what you think mate! Cheers, Nick Some have 1 or 2 channels, & some are MMA striking analysis (often explains better than pure boxing breakdowns): Al Osta BJJ Scout (Dominic Cruz breakdown - awesome!) Brendan Dorman Connor Ruebusch Duke Roufus (the) Fight Tips Gracie Breakdown (BJJ - but good basics explained) Jack Slack (podcast & breakdowns - MMA & striking) JT Van V Lawrence Kenshin Lee Wylie1 Marvin Cook Reemus Boxing Wilson Kayden (3)
Thanks for the reply man. A few of those I haven't even heard of. Really good stuff. All I can add is Fran Sands. Seems like a really good coach and actually has a few film studies on his website that are good shit. Ah, MightyFighter has some really awesome content too. JT Van V, Fran Sands, and Jack Slack are probably my 3 favorites.
Avocado And how you figure that? Are you completely clueless? Watch another Featherweight THAT DID IT BETTER AND WITH MORE POWER, that did it against the likes Danny "Little Red" Lopez, Wilfredo Gomez, and Azumah Nelson---all HOF'S. The Featherweight in question was one Salvador Sanchez! He did it against other LEGENDS of the sport....not against an amateur as shown here or the BUM he's facing professionally in this vid. Changing the game? 😂 Fuck out of here!
His style is so calculated, thought out, and unpredictable. His punches flow so perfectly with his movements and tendencies.

Russ James ps, subscribed! Great channel!!
Dear Russ It's been two years and I'am still waiting for pt. II, lol. Such a great breakdown!
I am liking Lomachenko more and more as I watch. Intelligent boxing, aggressive countering... Thanks for the breakdown, I really dig your chart. I'm also a southpaw. Like!
This is his rhythm. He does this so his opponents can never read or guess his next move that's why he is so hard to attack.
only way to beat him is to work the whole time and be smart about it
I love the full breakdown and the technicality explorer in this vid. Don't see too many in depth explanations, examples like this on CZcams. Great video

I don't know anything about boxing...but I really appreciate the work you have put in making of this detailed video. Amazing. I loved it.
If you learn to master this (frames, head movement and footwork), you’re essentially 75% of the way to being a boxing god. All of your offensive and defensive movement will come from this.
Fantastic video! From breakdown to music ! Love it

left analog stick = movement
right analog stick = head slot movement
