Simple answer: Let kids grow up and make the choice themselves as adults. All of the “risks” of being uncut can easily be solved with good hygiene. Cutting off your teeth and replacing it with dentures isn’t the way to avoid cavities, proper hygiene is.

If they had come on and said study xyz says you should be circumcised and we agree then, yeah, that's pro-circumcision but that isn't what was actually done.

Everyone has some bias towards something because of cultural, historical, political, religious, etc. reasons. Even scientific researches are not 100% perfect. The video here is not pro-circumcision nor the comments are anti-circumcision but they tend to lean on their own side.

I'm in a unique position because I was uncut for all my life but this year I got circumcised for medical reasons. I would say uncircumcised is marginally better. The skin provides extra moisture and reduces dryness. It's also a layer of physical protection.
I would only suggest circumcision if you have phimosis or frenulum breve (like I did) and it's hindering your performance/mentality.
IDK why people bring up hygiene in this discussion. If you literally just beat off in the shower with soap you will not have any hygiene problems down there. Seriously, it's that easy.
The foreskin is there for a reason and you should avoid taking it off if you can! Let people choose for themselves and don't force it on newborns! Complications in infantile circumcisions are unfortunately common.

I'm not cut and glad my parents made the decision to not give in to the hospital nurses that were urging to get it done on me. Now that I'm older I don't see a reason to get it done, as it has certain functions
Glad you were able to choose if you wanted it done or not, me and my cousin chose to get it done when we were both 15 as all our family offered it to all their kids when we were old enough to make a choice, I'd say it ended up being about 80% of us had it done, quite high for the UK I guess!

My husband is Asian-American born in the US in the early 1990's. I was born in England. Neither if us are circumcised. Neither of us have had health issues regarding our lack of being circumcised. We have been with each other for 8+ years. While our situation may not be typical, I have had many close friends tell me they resent being circumcised. I appreciate information in this video, I truly do. If you don't clean any particular body part, you are going to have issues. As for pleasure, OMG! Thanks to my parents for allowing me to stay uncircumcised!

It's unfortunate this leaves out so much crucial information such as the lifelong trauma circumcision inflicts on babies, the awful risks, the incredible rarity of penile cancer, the fact that infections can be treated with antibiotics, the manipulated statistics about the 60% reduction in HIV (absolute reduction is less than 2%, the 60% reduction is relative)...there is not a single valid reason to permanently disfigure a child. I have personally met many men with botched circumcisions, and there are doctors who perform corrective surgeries for botched circumcisions who say they see such patients very regularly.
It is entirely medically unnecessary, and it is always a violation of bodily autonomy for the baby boy being raped and tortured and traumatized with medical instruments at birth.

I think the medical community has a lot to answer for in the USA for pushing circumcision so hard on new parents . I was born in the late 60s and all boys my age , unless they were very poor in my community were circumcised . This did not start to change until the 1990s .

I didn't know I was circumsized until 5th grade when they did the quick "entering puberty" course. Circumcision without medical arguments on a child who is unable to give his consent is a violation of basic medical and ethical principles and in violation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. This is because the procedure is irreversible, painful and can lead to serious futuristic complications.
I wish I could sue the doctors who did mine to cover the cost of surgical restoration of my foreskin. I have hated doctors my whole life because they violated me before I could speak for myself.

No, the benefits aren't significant enough to be recommended. The CDC on their websites say this and that its not necessary and so do other world health organizations. Its interesting though.

In any case, this sounds like a decision that should be left to the owner of the body part in question…just like we leave the decision to remove (or not remove) literally every other normal, permanent, non-diseased body part to its owner, not the owner’s parents.

Great discussion and useful information, I'm personally cut, but wish I wasn't. I hope parents really think about it before choosing to circumcise their sons. What would he prefer, and do you really have the right to decide for your son?
In most places you get it cut when you’re born, which personally it’s stupid to do something like that so soon. It’s useless basically. Just don’t forget to pull the foreskin back and clean it. If you get phimosis, there’s also stretch routines or you can get it cut. Unless you have frenulum breve (even then, you can get it cut but not remove it) you can keep the frenulum too if you get a circumcision later.
But most importantly… no need to feel bad about being circumcised. I have my foreskin rolled behind the glans always so it’s kinda like being circumcised except I kept some more nerves and my frenulum. Tired of the smell, rashes and the overly sensitive glans when the foreskin is rolled over the glans.

For the phimosis, stretch foreskin everyday and put betamethasone (steroid cream) on foreskin. You will be able to pull the foreskin all the way back after 2 months. Circumcision doesn't need unless you can not take a shower everyday.

What about other families and their wishes to have their sons circumcised especially for religious reasons, what about them? And getting circumcised after very young ages may lead to worse implications than if one got circumcised at infancy. I will admit my bias here and say that I was circumcised a bit after my birth and for cultural reasons.

I'm afraid your Mum misinformed you. It may have been her perception as a native-born Italian that only Jews are circumcised, but it is not so. Muslims are also circumcised, but also most sub-Saharan Africans, also Philippinos and South Koreans (though in their case that may have been down to the influence of American medics working there in the aftermath of the Korean War. Not sure why Philippinos are, but it has been in their culture for a very long time.
Christianity does not expressly forbid the practice, and in fact it was a tradition that the first-born son was circumcised 'as a consecration to God', though admittedly it does not have quite the same significance as to a Jewish family.

As an individual who is circumsized, I would recommend that parents should not immediately get their baby boy(s) a circumcision unless there is some medical reason that requires the baby to get one. Despite this, the individual man is the only one who should be aloud to choose whether or not he will be cut. Parents (especially mothers) should not be the ones aloud to choose the circumcision for their baby. Babies should only get a circumcision for medical reasons. The procedure should never be done for hygienic, aesthetic, sexual, personal, and/or religious reasons. If a man wants to go through the procedure, it's his choice. I also recommend that men who are thinking about getting a circumcision, pls do not let other people (especially women) influence your decision.

I found some of this information about the time frame of changes. I was a Combat infantryman in Vietnam in 70-71 (101st Airborne). An offer came down the line if you were an uncircumcised solder the Army medical would perform an operation to get you circumcised, which meant up to 30 days out of the field. They claimed the idea was because of the time in the jungle (we spent 330 days out of 365 in the bush) had led to minor infections. Two guys from my team took up the offer, and after they came back, both did nothing but complain how painful and uncomfortable the 30 days was... I know it scared a couple of other guys out of the idea.... Also I was born in a small town outside of Pontiac, Michigan and there were two major hospitals,; Pontiac General and a Catholic Hospital name St Joseph. If you were born at General, you were circumcised, or at St.Joseph you were uncircumcised ... a discovery made in Jr High Gymn Class Showers ... Never knew the reasoning... we were boys born in 1948-1950.

I had it done and its been so much better had tight skin so if I pull it back would get stuck and cut off circulation also helped with going to the toilet. I recommend getting it done early because the pain and uncomfortable feeling was hell the stiches were like thorns exspecially while wearing clothes.
