While listening to this I was thinking about Nelson Mandela's story of when he was on a propeller plane, and one of the engines goes out, others start to panic, and even though he is aware of the danger, he continues to read his newspaper as if nothing is wrong, which has a calming effect on the rest of the passengers. After they safely land, he says to a friend, "Man, I was terrified up there!" but his actions reflected what he wanted out of life, to be a great leader.

My ADHD has stopped me from doing all the things I need to do because I’m so scattered, but when you have to move on the thought in 5 seconds you don’t have time to be scattered! It’s a miracle for me because I always used my ADHD as a crutch, a ridiculous crutch! Thank you for this!!!❤️❤️❤️

Some good some bad, ive been soul searching and trying to find SOMETHING to get me back on track. I will find the audio and restart my life agian!!.. and im hoping it will help my partner too. Wish me luck. B

The way I beat self doubt is I find someone who has done whatever I want to do and realize they're no smarter than me so if they can do it I can too. That's how I bought my first motorcycle. My cousins had to drive it home from the dealership. Every morning after work I was on that thing until I figure it out. Here I was 120lbs woman trying to ride this 750 cc motorcycle. Yes l probably fell more times than I care to remember. Yes a few strangers helped me pick it up, but eventually I figured it out. Right now at nearly 60 years old I'm roller blading in the park in 90 degrees weather while listening to this. I don't look pretty but I'm having a darn good time.😉

I stopped rollerblading around 45 years old when I fell and broke my coccyx. I’m like you, just a little younger, and I’m building a camper van all alone and about to launch my own business again so I can be self employed and location independent and travel with my doggy.

Thank you for the 5 second countdown. Great reminder and a brilliant flashback. For many (most, or all) of us, counting down was programmed in childhood so this is easily relatable and retrievable from memory. Counting down to dive into a swimming pool, counting down to launch a rocket ship, counting down to get back into your seat (in classroom), counting down to start a race, etc. Counting down was a "call to action" from childhood and I am so grateful for the reminder!

So glad I discovered a passion of moving meditation. Biking is amazing to help alleviate anxiety! When there are obstacles and rough terrain and you crush it...oh wow...what a high!

If you have a problem that can be solved with action, you actually don’t have a problem. With competency, confidence appears. It also appears when we take action. Self- doubt, procrastination, these are only habits. By counting 5-4-3-2-1 you activate the pre- frontal cortex, and you go into action. Here's the definition of self- doubt. Its the decision not to. Confidence is the decision to try. You cant control how you feel all the time but you can always choose to take action. 4 traps of self- doubt. 1) Hesitating 2)/Hiding 3) Hyper- critical and 4) Help- lessness. Hesitating. When you are not sure. Uncertainty. It starts with the willingness to try. 2) Hiding is spurred by fear. Procrastinating. Expect it to always feel like a big deal. But what can you do next day that would force you not to hide. You read a book, talk to people, you figure it out. 3) Hyper- critical. Just make a choice to push yourself every day. 4) Helplessness. Triggered by insecurity and low self- worth. You.need to talk specific. Specifically, what does it look like in the next chapter?

I find Mel Robbins a good example for the fact that often by instinct you choose a career that has something to do with what your gut tells you you should be doing, even if it's not the right thing. Meaning: Practicing law was not right for her, but looking back, it makes total sense because she is not trying to help people in another way, and she can now use many of the people skills she learned over the years.

Are you asking in general or how I do it?
Understand that every person on this planet has a soul, we are soul energies having a Human Experience.
      Energy is eternal (Physics)
Thus we have a purpose for this life journey - (worthy)
To understand healthy and balanced "self-love", I look at myself in 2 ways - 1) the child I was at about 4 or 5 - I feel love and compassion for that child
      2) my work, efforts, giving, caring for others, friends/family, my accomplishments, my spiritual side/my soul, all of these comprise my adult life journey -
The pain, and the gain -
I respect my fortitude, ethics, and integrity - I look at the challenges and my response to those - I understand my poor decisions - and I applaud my good decisions, I look towards resolving those that need work and I keep in mind I am in a human dimension, with human ego - but I know I must work toward "a Greater Version of me" - I love my value and values.
I keep Wisdom and Mature Minded a conscious point of what is right - (as opposed to Adolescent Ego Minded DRAMA)
I make an effort to realize we are not all on the same page or chapter, and I attempt to be patient with those whom are - yet to get the mature or life purpose, and I make an effort not to judge -
For this, I respect myself and have self worth and self love.
Hope this was what you were asking -
      Thanks -

There is also a good book by Dr Susan Jeffers: Feel the Fear and Do it Anyway.
It's said to be one of the few self-help books that actually work. I've read it a few times - messages like that don't get absorbed in one reading. I come from a negative family. If I listed to my dad, I'd never leave the house. Basically, feel nervous, but do it anyway.
I've been teaching for a couple of decades. It doesn't stop me feeling nervous as hell before the start of a new course. But I admit that to my students and they are surprised, but then they perk up because they are nervous, too. So we laugh together and then everyone relaxes.

Mel, my take away from your talk is "The One Thing." You used "The One Thing" on every member of the audience you invited up. This is so simple and yet so profound advise. It made me realize I have to many things going on and overwhelm stops me from doing what needs to be done to move forward. I will prioritize my work and 5,4,3,2,1 take action on that one highest priority activity.

What I have noticed is that you all deal with people who are young and who have many more years of life ahead of them. It's as if the senior citizens have no right to a better existence. Why should it be so? We feel pained too,and feel desperate and depressed, helpless and hopelessabout our chsllenges. And matters seem worse because there are not that many years ahead either. Couldn't someone, anyone, reach out to us? Vijaya Singh, India

There are so many things that need to be done.. The assignments I get assigned at work, cleaning my room, learning new skills for my job (can't do well without them), managing my expenses. Basically everything.. From buying new clothes to getting new shoes... Everything.. And just thinking about all of this is so. Overwhelming!
I literally don't want to do anything.. I've become apathetic

Notes from “How to Beat Self-Doubt in 5 Seconds”
I recommend watching the video in its entirety, but here are some notes I took.
If you want to change your life, count down 5 4 3 2 1, then do what you know you should be doing
    Your Doubts Create Mountains
    Your Actions Move Them
What’s your next chapter in life?
    Myths About Confidence
    1. Confidence is a personality trait
    2. Confidence is fixed
    3. Confidence starts with belief
    - This is not true. The positive thoughts can sure help, but taking action is the key.
    The Truth About Confidence:
    - Confidence is a skill, not a trait
    - Confidence is situational
    - Confidence begins with action
If you have a problem.. that can be solved with action.. you don’t have a problem
    The Confidence Competency Loop
    Try => Succeed
    Or
    Survive
The more that you do something, the more that you build skill and competency. That’s where confidence comes from.
When you have a fear of failure, you start to overwatch think. This leads to you doubting yourself, and it’s a loop.
    - the same is true when you’re feeling unsure, nervous, feeling like a facade, overwhelmed, fearing rejection
    - These feelings are normal, but acting nervous is a choice
    - You’re not a doubter, you have a habit of doubting yourself
There is only one way to break a habit loop. You have to insert a different behavior.
    This is where 5 4 3 2 1 comes into play
    - it activates the prefrontal cortex
In 5 seconds you can change anything, that changes everything.
    New Definition of Confidence:
    - Confidence: is the decision to try.
You can’t control how you feel at times, but you can always control how you act.
    New Definition of Self-Doubt:
    - Self-Doubt: is the decision not to.
    The 4 Traps of Self-Doubt:
(make sure to check 28:00, was an amazing thing to watch)
    1. Hesitating
    - Triggered by uncertainty
    - Waiting
    - Overthinking
    - Wanting your work to be perfect
    The Progress Principle
Research conducted by the Harvard Business School
It set out to find what makes people feel like they had a productive day when they get home.
    The answer was super simple.
Did they make progress on one thing that mattered to them?
Every morning, leverage the progress principle by writing one thing that you can do, no matter how small it is, to make progress on something that is important to. Use 5 4 3 2 1, carve out five minutes to roll that ball forward.
    2. Hiding
    - Avoiding people, being silent at meetings and around people you want to talk to
    - Procrastinating
The key is taking baby steps towards your dream that aren’t as daunting
    3. Hypercritical
    - Arguing against yourself, usually caused by past failures
    - “I’m never dating again, not starting up a business after a failure, etc.”
Make a decision and stick to it. You know what you should be doing. Don’t allow yourself to continue to be paralyzed.
    4. Helplessness
    - “Nothing ever goes my way”
    - “I can’t do anything about my situation”
You need to get more specific. Be specific about your goals and how you see them playing out in the future.
    Details, details, details
For a business, think employees, location, wages, etc.
You have to take your dream and form it into a plan.
