That’s how to capture a live sound in a studio. Bonzo lived and breathed that track.
Bonzo is sick as hell this song!!!!
JPJ played a Fender fretless jazz bass when recording this song. Also, JP used an old Danelectro electric guitar. Unique sounds here.
In 79 I was 16 yrs old; I used to come home from High School and play to this on the drums, Bonham was probably my greatest teacher, I learned soooo many Zepp song, had to chart out a lot of parts and the study paid off. John taught me when to really keep it basic and in the pocket, when to lol not hit a crash cymbal on the down beat when to throw in a lil `quick spice in and out when they don't expect it, and when to show em what you got. But most important he taught me to play from your heart and especially soul like it was you last day on earth, being full Italian made that last part easy. All n all he really taught me more than any book or any other teaching source. What a gift that boy was to us all. This song brings back memories also shows how powerful the blues can be. The original blues cats of the early 1900's would give their blessing(s.) Sorry long winded.
My sister was in the car with me the other day and this was in the CD player. She was shocked that she'd not heard it before. To the point that she was almost yelling at me for never turning her on to it. She had taken off to Florida when she was 17 so I only had a certain amount of influence on her. I know I had this on vinyl but she was younger than me and I wouldn't let her play my albums. I feel like that was a mean thing to do looking back. My point is that she LOVED it! Finally, at 51 she hears In my time of Dying. AND, Oh my gosh, can you imagine getting to play this song with this Rock God? Jimmy looks fantastic and still has it!!!!!
I didn't like anyone playing my records, either, because vinly scratched so easily!
@@aWOKEn1445 Exactly, and I didn't have the money to replace them. When I finally did let her play them, she was so very careful when she put that needle to the vinyl. I don't believe she ever did put a scratch on any of my albums. By the time she started driving, cassette tapes were what we were playing. My sister and I have such a great connection because of music. We have so much fun when we get in the car and decide what we feel like listening to! Sorry for the short novel I just wrote! You got me thinking way back! Thanks for actually making me feel better for being such a stickler with my albums! Peace!
@@tammieparrishmiller3669 Peace to you as well! See you in another reaction!
Unbelievably fabulous song! Jimmy with that slide and the rest of the band...magnificent!
Jesus is gonna make my dying bed by Blind Willie Johnson 1928 , an old gospel song
Jimmy Page paired up with the Black Crows . A wonderful 2 album set came out of this, featuring all Zep set.
Merry Christmas*̣̥☆·͙̥❄‧̩̥࿌ིྀ྇˟͙☃️˟͙࿌ིྀ྇‧̩̥❄·͙̥̣☆*̣̥
Perfect song for today. I’ve asked that this be played at my memorial service. One of my favorite all time favorites. And it should properly piss off my snobbish upper class daughter. Lol And Wayne, no…Hell No there’s NO better rock singer, ever. Plant, Page, Bonham and Jones - Rock f’ing gods all.❤️
Annie
How can it be their best when their best is replete throughout all of their art. Still, this is utterly magnificent.
I tell brother Wayne, this studio version really is the gold standard for Bonzo for me.out of their what 81 songs over 9 studio or so (just off top of my head!) .I was absolutely sold on his heavy drum feel..xoxox Merry Christmas!
Well said!
Jimmy was dyeing his hair for a while.... but i agree, he has a more graceful appearance with letting age happen naturally! There's
a live version he kills it in.....
Bonzo possibly using the butt end of pool cues on the drums as sticks
I must have listened to this masterpiece probably hundreds of times and it`s still like the first time, blew me away, still does.
Bonham is killing the drums on this track...
Every track.
Makes sense this old gospel song would be unblocked on Christmas 🎄
Actually Peter, more than a dozen became unblocked all at once!
@@SoulTrainBro Wow! Hopefully they stay unblocked. Merry Christmas.
My favorite Led Zep song!😊
This is an absolute masterpiece Bro.... glad you loved it.... 'cough"
Blind Willie Johnson originally did this song in 1927. Jack White was in the White Stripes.
Many of Zeppelin's best songs were reworked, re-arranged old blues songs. Jimmy was a genius in how he turned them into powerful electric blues. IMO this is their best ever. The only stain was that the band didn't give a proper nod to the original song writers.
They didn't because they got it from an album by Joan Byez who didn't credit it so they assumed it was so old there was noone to credit. Her mistake not theirs
@@user-gu7kk5zk2b With all due respect, that's BS. They knew exactly who wrote it because they did the same thing with several other songs in their catalog.
Another Zeppelin"s Masterpiece . ...what "s possible to say about the drums, the rhythm section ?? Nothing .. Just having your mind blowing up by the strength , the cohesion , the power of the band
Loved watching tour original post and enjoyed it the 2nd time even more! Merry Christmas Wayne!!
Same to you!
here I am again....lol
Robert said "we took the blues and twisted it and turned it upside down" how correct he was.
IMHO, it is not a contest of who is "better". The magic of Led Zepellin is the interaction. Every band member is in synchopation and supporting the others in bringing their individual touxh to their works.
Fyi, they only released albums, and did not have works released as singles.
1 of your 1st zep reactions?
Bonham is an absolute MONSTER here
Yep he carried this song for sure
@@aspjake123 he didnt carry it, he DROVE it
@@eatthisvr6 WELL SAID
Another typical brilliant reaction by STB...happy holidays bro!
Same to you!
@@SoulTrainBro Thank you bro!!
Merry Christmas 🎄From a Zeppelin fan.
Takes your breath away doesn't it, I'm goosebumps from head to feet. How wonderful that this was unblocked, very much appreciated.Merry Xmas.
The only channel where I am happy to hear the host stop the song to comment! Genuine and it's obvious .
With John it's just as much about the air moving between the notes as the actual notes and you really notice it on this song. Thanks!
Let's go.rip brother John.
I watched this I think 2 years ago and I took the opportunity to watch it again. I liked hearing through your ears and eyes.
The good old tadpole days, @SoulTrainBro! Merry XMas. Still love the 1975 Earl's Court live version of this. Monumental. #Iamtheshit
Bonham in Beast-mode!
Your reaction videos are really smooth, please keep them going, congratulations! Greetings from Mexico
Spiritual
Love this Led song for sure but I really love the Soundgarden Slave and Bulldozers song where Chris Cornell sang a verse from this song.
I wish like crazy the Lord met Chris with another pair of Wings, He might still be with us.
you've got to be kidding.... Soundgarden are amateurs to this.....
@@ZalMoxis Bet you have not really listened to Slaves and Bull dozers....
Yes LZ is superior to SG but give a real listen to them. Chris Cornell reaches down like Plant.
Props To Blind Willie Johnson
STB, with your history of early 20th Century Blues and your father's you have a greater understanding of the Mighty Zeppelin than many of its greatest fans. Blues are becoming contemporary once again.
The original who wrote and recorded it first is by blind Willie Johnson.
Merry Christmas 🎄
Same to you!
This song is so damn groovey it makes that word relevant.
This track has to be in my Top Five Fave Zep Tunes, and that is saying a LOT! I was 12 when Zeppelin came to my neck of the woods (Northern Virginia/Capitol Center in D.C.) in '77. Knew 'em, liked 'em, but wasn't at the rock-obsessed, concert-going stage yet. By '79 I was pretty much a fanatic, lol, but , alas, my chance to see them had gone, though I didn't know it at the time. On September 26th, 1980, the day after Bonzo's death, I remember seeing my friend Chris in the high school hallway. We locked eyes and one of us said just one word: "Shit." No explanation was needed. And I think it was '78, when I was on a family trip to Long Beach, California, that my two-years older brother (like so many, I was blessed to be turned on to soooo much cool music by an older, hipper sibling) and I were walking down some sidewalk to a 7-11 or something, and he had a big-ass boombox, the cassette spinning out Zep's new album, "Presence," and specifically the futuristic guitar-layering and bad-ass crunch of "Nobody's Fault But Mine." I exclaimed, "THIS is Led Zeppelin??!" I thought I knew this group! He suffered my spazzy ignorance, then cooly introduced me to "Achilles Last Stand" and others on that underrated disc. I spent the next year raiding his album collection. (He was/is also a (very damn talented) drummer, I should say, and made a decent living for a spell there playing rock and roll. In high school the bands he was in often practiced in our basement: sweet! A favorite memory is him usually giving in to my pleadings to hear him play the groovy-ass "O Rosie!/Steal Away!" drumbeat from "How Many More Times.") They're my favorite band because I like/love every song of theirs. No other fave group of mine--not the Beatles, Stones, Rush, The Who, etc. does that for me. The best, period. You put it so well when you said in another reaction vid that your own experience was one of "an evolution of my eyes getting wider and wider and wider." And ears getting bigger as well, I suppose. Love your reactions, man, thanks!
My favorite from Physical Graffiti. I first heard it in about '84. Definitely pushed me to pick up playing drums. This is an epic song and Bonzo was " just steaming" as he would say.
Blind Willie Johnson recorded this song in 1927, not sure of anyone before that.
This is What You get when You put wizzards together
My Rock Soul Brother. No words can describe how Bad Azz Led Zep Truely are. T$
They redid a lot of old songs even Whole lot of love
Ages of Led Zep in 1968:
Jimmy Page 25
John Paul Jones 24
John Bonham 20
Robert Plant 19 although he turned 20 soon after.
Blind Willy 1930 (ish)
Another Bonham masterpiece!
You should review Free on a channel called Doing their thing when they performed Mr Big. Unlike Zep they didn't cover many old blues songs but they certainly had as much soul.
I second that!
The Brits take over the Blues. Who'd have thunk it?
"This is an old blues song" 95% of their catalog.
What have you done?
Blind Willie Johnson, guess I should've watched more before commenting.
Every year, (I think) Plant goes on a sabbatical for new inspiration to Clarksdale, Mississippi, to of course scoop up on any old/new ideas for more great music..He has been spotted there several times, always very low key. He's not there to be noticed.
Why are these songs finally getting unblocked? 🤷♂️
Donno
@@SoulTrainBro
Any ideas on why?
I think Blind Willie Johnson??
Might not be 45s,could be one sided 16 speed from the 1920s
Wouldnt be on an old 45 maybe a 78
May I just say that no-one does these reactor pieces better than you, imho.
How about mesmerizing?
all their music was stolen from the blues giants without acknowledgement
