Remember, they went life and death with Atlanta if I remember correctly, taking seven games to beat them. While they had great Talent, they were at their prime end. For those who didn't see Posey in Boston, he was a lot like Battier was for Miami in that he was a 3/4 3&D tweener with no ego who allowed the Celtics to play small ball with KG at the 5. We wouldn't see that again until the Celtics got Jeff Green in 2011, and even then, it never fully materialized because Green missed all of 2012 (he might have swung the ECF against Miami) and by the time he returned in 2013, Ray Allen was gone and Pierce and Garnett were really starting to show their age. I think had Garnett not hurt his knee in 2009, the Celtics probably three-peat and maybe they even beat the Thunder in 2012 as well with a healthy Green and Bradley swinging the Miami series.

However, he was not the only reason Boston made the Finals in 2010 - Pierce was the best player in the 1st round against Miami, Rondo and Garnett both played very well against Cleveland and Pierce and Rondo carried Boston through the Orlando series. Rondo was Boston's best player in the Finals, but Garnett played well and Glen Davis and Nate Robinson were as responsible as anyone for that game four victory. As far as 2011 goes, I was AT the game you're referring to (game three of the ECSF) and yes, Wade made a dirty play that took Rondo out. Regardless, I don't think Boston was beating Miami that year because they traded Perkins, Shaq got hurt and Green didn't mesh with the squad until 2013. Rondo getting hurt in 2013 was probably the difference between a first round exit and a second round exit. In 2008, Garnett started declining and became more injury prone. They won the chip that season, but that wasn’t the prime KG we saw in 2004. Next season, the beef between Rondo and Ray Allen happened, KG was injured, Paul Pierce was inconsistent… then it all crumbled. It was Kobe and Pau’s peak too, those were their years. Orlando has a monster in Dwight Howard, they became the monster in the East before Lebron finally lefft Cleveland and joined the Miami Heat.

Even with all the scrutiny and BS (from Pierce talking his way to becoming an All time player), the 08 big three in my opinion is the best big 3 ever. All 3 of them never stepped on the other one's lane. KG manning the paint, Ray just bombing 3s and moving without the ball, while Pierce handles the mid to paint, handling the scoring. Comparing it to the Heatles where they all had to adjust to bron, or the Brooklyn's Dribble brothers who never meshed and just wanted to play who's the better scorer. Based on chemistry alone, I think the warriors with KD, Steph, and Klay, are the closest but I'll give more credit to Steve Kerr and his perimeter centered offense in which anyone can be a decoy. Also Rondo deserves a lot of credit for running the offense even with Doc's messed up coaching, he was the glue for everyone and placed everyone in perfect spots, not just the big 3 but everyone as well. That's just my opinion, what's yours guys?

85 lakers with magic, kareem and worthy is better. 86 Celtics with bird, mchale and parrish is also better. Bulls big three of jordan, pippen and rodman was better. Warriors big 3 also (Curry, Durant and klay/draymond). Dont Forget Tim, Manu and Parker were also better. Manu should have won mvp in 05, so, basically, all of the spurs big 3 should have won finals mvp. Even James, Irving and Love is a better big 3.

The fact is before KG was injured in 09 we had a better record at the break then the 72-10 bulls.
Posey leaving in FA was huge tbh I knew we wouldn’t repeat from that move alone he was instrumental was actually the big 4
And people forget no matter what his stats say Ray struggled in his new role as a spot up shooter he was ball dominant and created off his offense he didn’t even hit a three in the lakers series till like gm 5 or something an it was all year like that after this year he mastered the craft an Lebron can thank ray for his second chip. 08 Celtics lead the league in assists it was beautiful basketball to watch
these three guys carried franchises for a decade or more they deserved to come together an win they did it through trades too which is far harder more organic and meant to be
I only imagine if we got KG PP RA at the ages that wade bosh James were when they formed a team (bc of the Celtics btw)
would we not have won 6 or more ? we almost won 2 and could have went to three more finals 09 11 12 with those guys in mid to late 30s

your summary of the 2010-2011 season is a little off/missing a lot of context. They were actually having a really good season and had the best record in the east up until the all star break, which is when Ainge chose to trade perkins (who was going to be a free agent that summer) for Green. They guys were shook after that, especially rondo (best friends with Perk) who hit a huge slump towards the end of the season. With Perkins gone, they were now leaning on an old shaq and a broken down jermaine oneal which hindered them during the playoffs. It also didnt help that rondo dislocated his elbow in the lone game they won against miami which was the most pivotal point in the series.

Good video Andy, very enjoyable. My Lakers I think still would've beaten them even if Perkins didn't get hurt in game 6, throughout the 2010 Finals, we dominated them on the offensive boards, the winner of the game of the series, won the rebounding battle. If people want to say that my Lakers won cause they didn't have Perk for game 7, let them think that, but I think differently, I just can't picture the Lakers letting it slip away again vs Celtics, just no way that they was gone not get revenge on the same date they prevailed vs us two yrs prior, June 17th. Laker revenge would still happen, just like with us in 08, we didn't have our starting Center for the whole 08 playoffs in Andrew Bynum, Trevor Ariza wasn't his full self in 08 as well, and if Bynum didn't get hurt against Memphis ironically, we wouldn't have gotten Pau, so Drew getting hurt was a blessing in getting Pau, which set the tone in us winning back to back with the 2 bigs. So yes, I think age played a factor in why Boston couldn't win another title, they're the only Celtic championship era, to never win multiple titles. And was denied by the Lakers, who beat them to repeat, got their two yr revenge, and Boston being the first Celtic team to blow a 3-2 lead in the Finals, how fitting that their long time nemesis, made them blow the lead, and in that game 7, it seem like Boston didn't miss Perk, cause they was up 13 in the third quarter, but Lakers defended, rebounded, started making shots and getting to the line, in the 4th after cutting the deficit to 4 after 3 quarters, then in the 4th, Lakers was slowly coming back, Boston started missing shots, Lakers were hitting their shots, Kobe rebounding, getting to the line, hit that key shot, along with Fish and Metta hitting a 3 a piece. Boston stayed close, but LA held them off.

reality is age and injuries were the biggest problem, coaching was also an issue but not as big as age and injuries. when the big 3 came together, they were all pretty old, and back then the league was more physical than today's league so age was a bigger factor.
in 2009 playoffs we all saw what a young rose did to the celtics without KG, the celtics barely won game 7 and it was the most exciting playoffs series ever, then in round 2 they got destroyed by the magic in the paint.
in 2010, i remember how everyone thought the celtics old man were done, but they cruised to the finals...completely dominated even the magic, i think we were up 3-1 and won the first 2 road games...there was a lot of disbelief. but then in the finals, perk went down game 6 and 7, and we got destroyed on the board, perk was averaging 5.8 rebounds in the finals, second in the team, and the team also missed his defensive presence. my man ray allen hit 8 threes in game 2, but then his shots wouldn't drop....and i think coaching has a lot to do here. doc wanted ray to shoot himself out, but back then defense was different than today, the entire final series was a fucking grind and many ppl shot a poor percentage. Doc should have ran other plays instead of making allen catch and shoot, thats the problem as andy said in the video, the offense was so predictable. he wouldn't make changes in response to the situation and come up with creative plans to shock the opponent. it was all rondo, rondo was great, but it was all rondo. thats why ray allen got upset because he was used as a decoy running around just to catch and shoot sometimes when he could do so much more.
and thats the key, putting star players together does not give you success, the players need to know they are each giving up a large part of their game, their stats, and have to fit in a completely new style. thats why so many super teams failed, they simply wouldn't adjust or willing to give up. thats why i think bosh is so under appreciated, its all lebron and wade but bosh gave up a lot for the team. same goes for ray who gave up the most among the big 3.

This lone championship forever changed Doc's and Pierce's legacies, without it they would be remembered very differently. And not for the better.
Ray and KG, I think would be remembered similarly even if they never won a championship.
They were a dominant team, but not a likeable team.... so the more time that passes, people's opinion of them will get worse.
And in my opinion, having Perkins and Pierce on tv acting a fool, also really hurts this teams legacy.

It is a mystery why the Celtics traded Eddie House in 2010 for Nate Robinson.
House was usually the team's PG in the 4Q, complementing Ray Allen's perimeter shooting.
Come 2010 Finals, the Lakers simply keep an eye on Allen (or Rasheed Wallace) and let Rondo dare to take long shots.
Sure, the Celts were still one win away and even took a 3-2 lead, but that supposed Title finish would be less hard if House was still there.

E.g.: "Maybe there were times where Celtics benefitted from injuries to others?" - OK, why not investigate that avenue? Would have added so much to this video. There was couple of more points which were briefly mentioned and would have added a lot of depth.
