I pulled the trigger on SV era earlier this year with SV base, Paldea, OFlames, Paradox and 151
If these SIR prices keep climbing or hold for Twilight, then the second half of SV should be insanely good. And I’ll have to pick up positions in Temp Forces, Twilight, and Shrouded. Nostalgianomics was really the first channel that I became a true member of and have agreed with Alex on a lot of his points. I have been in TCGs for over 20 years. Alex knows his shit.

Ya its something we all wrestle with is having a collection while trying to invest while trying to flip and make money. Finding the balance is hard but there is no right answer only the right answer for yourself.

Great Video Alex! This was me a few years ago. I was just buying without a plan on what i was doing. The best thing anyone in this hobby can do is come up with a plan on what they are actually doing in this hobby. - There is no wrong answer, you just need to have a plan.
100%! It can very hard to do though especially when you are new.
Good vid. My kids got me back in this hobby but I realized it’s a fun way to teach them how to invest and be business minded. I’m going the minimal sealed booster box long term route while having fun and opening some and buying slabs that we like.
This also teaches discipline for them and me 😂 imagine as a kid having sealed boxes in your room and not opening them so hard.

I wish more people would listen and appreciate your perspective on investing Alex. The 4 hour investing debate video was like a foundations of economics course for JLuv and OPossum, totally agree that investor bro’s are looked down upon like scum in this hobby sometimes - mostly because they are lumped in with scalpers.
I wish PokeOz was able to come onto that stream as well, you two are my fav poketubers and I feel it would have been like the Superman and Batman crossover

My plan is collecting raw of cards I want for my binder, collecting slabs in PSA 10 of my favorite cards to display, and buy booster box cases of sets I believe in to sell in the future to fund singles collection 🙌

im glad i collected alt arts when swsh was coming out with sets. i didnt collect a lot of booster boxes during the time so now im just getting a couple of some sets or one of each just for personal to hold down. i will be buying some 151 cases, temp force bb cases, paradox maybe some paldea and twilight cases time will tell
thats been my plan as well im finally getting the funds i need to go where i want with my collection.
making a business out of pokemon cards seems wild to me, wayyyy too much work. works really nice as a buy and hold investment (that you can literally hold) for long time horizons. im a collector/investor, and i try to get a balance of what i like and what i think will grow. buy some stuff and let it sit for half a decade, check on it every now and then, make your money and dont stress like you said 53:00.
43:40 this is super important and i dont think enough people are aware... i often find myself spending hours looking for the best deals and debating with myself if i should try to find X cheaper, only to have to step back and ask myself if that $5-10 per BB is worth my time and sanity. usually the answer is a hard no.

Can't remember if it was this video you mentioned that no one shares their revenue vs cost when it comes to card shows. I recall watching a video from Dylan (the bulbastore guy) and him saying that he would have to sell $10k worth of product to break even after all expenses (table cost, hotel, flight, etc.). I also think he mentioned that he doesn't really make much off of card shows and that his real revenue comes from CZcams videos.

Thankyou Alex I just purchased 200 chilling reign packs @£3.50 per pack so I can just be done with it im not paying £220 a box if goes too £300 I mite just sell my only chilling sealed booster box and buy more packs if still under £4 that way I have freedom of opening a few hear and there for the forseable future hopefully get some hits i can grade in that Manny packs I have no regrets tho I choose Evolving Skies over chilling on release so made right choice sitting pretty right now and ive owned and the articuno moltress alt before just want that last dip before it becomes unatable 😅

I would wait for a reprint personally. It could continue to run a bit for now and sure there is that crazy chance a reprint doesn't come but the odds are it will and you will have a lower entry point.

My only losses in this hobby is ripping booster packs. Never have I ever got a hit, so buying more singles now. :) I like the arty stonk.
You can still buy packs too just don’t open them. And they come in a box of 36 for about $100.
Buying singles is way cheaper and you can just buy the ones you want. So strictly from a dollars and cents point of view that's definitely the way to go unless sealed appeals to you and you have the willpower to make it work. The fun thrill and excitement though is all wrapped up in the packs. The fun is ripping packs, the excitement is the anticipation and the thrill is pulling the big hit. You miss out on that buying singles. No story to tell or video to show the grandkids of the time when you pulled your Moonbreon. Unless you want to tell them about the time you drove down to your local card shop and forked over $1000 for your Moonbreon but that will most certainly bore them. I don't personally buy singles preferring to rip my own cards. However in order to make it work and satisfying you have to accept the fact you aren't going to catch em all. As well you need to learn to be happy with the hits you do get and not get carried away trying to pull a specific card. That can be fun though if it's somebody else's money and not your mortgage payment or rent money.

What type of collector are you?? That hit home, I’m a collector first, investment is great if it’s there but I don’t care tbh. I want master sets that’s my thing, that’s it. I work for the NFL I don’t need to invest. I try to just rip all my cards to be fair, let’s be realistic, I could just buy everything and be done. I enjoy the process. There is a dark reality to this tho, I agree. You gotta have the money first of all, everyone wants the opportunity to own that “ONE” card. I don’t own social media so I don’t care, I just like the hot topics.
Staying off the social medias is a big plus. That way you won't get caught up in the chase for the sake of it and come to realize you didn't even want the things you chased after 😂. Glad you found the best way for yourself!
@@NostalgiaNomics that’s so true, I got rid of social media 4 years ago. At first, I was all over the place buying anything and everything POKEMON wise. Finally realized that I just love opening packs or finding sealed product and opening it, safe to say that people holding sealed product is for people like me to open in the future and making master sets. It’s very hard and does burn me out but it’s the most fun to collect imo. What do you actually enjoy, your always sharing knowledge but what’s your goal? I’ve always wanted to ask you that.
@stevenwilson8633 Well obviously I love opening packs and the the Thursday Night Pack Breaks do help with that even though they are not my cards I get the feeling of pulling them still. I do also open some of each new set that comes out too. So I hear you there!

What are you talking about? 151 people buying 70 or 50 , this is irrelevant on the long term. Like people were saying $200 evolving skies was too expensive , when it went down to $150...then its now $700. 151 japanese long term could be 300 or more. Are you advising people to buy paldea at current price, 120? When a reprint could send the price to 70-80?
Hidden fates is a great cautionary tale he brought up in regards to playing it safe with 151 JP. Also Paldea reprint would be unlikely to make it go that low in my opinion. Not trying to break yo balls. Have a nice day tho for real 👋
@@JasonWaterfalls22a lot of people thought the same with Vivid Voltage and Shining Fates. I’ve been buying 151 but with this massive reprint the ceiling is lower. Only time will tell though
I think you’re letting your emotions make your decisions. The reprint has been announced. It’s here now. We’ve heard it’s big. It makes too much sense to wait and see where the price settles. Dont try and catch a falling knife
Knife has already, that's what im saying, +-$20 doesn't make a difference. Try catching an english lost origin box (case), and see which one performs...then if they reprint lost origin , Paldea which are still in the format, then probably youd be catching a falling knife
Look man I can tell you either love Japanese or have a large position in 151. Either way I'm not here to talk down anything. I'm just warning people to be careful and understand the market Japanese is in now. Sure it could go back to 200 bit it also may not. Sure 70 could be a good pick up or maybe this next reprint crushed it and it doesn't even make it back to 70 for a year or 2. I don't personally think that will be the case but all I am saying is people were selling the idea that 151 was a "guarantee" for so long at so many price points and people have lost a lot of money following that advice. Just use caution is all...
I am simply trying to make a 200-300% return in the next 5 years!

lol i have 4 jap 151 booster boxes and 4 v star universe boxes. one of the v star box i won so i really didnt loose much besides the 151 boxes.that temporary loss is nothing compared all the gains. i technically havent lost i will hold the jap 151 until however long it takes or rip the 4 boxes. im trying to get rid of all this bulk, plus all the different singles i pulled over the pandemic i dont want piled. i dont like opening product anymore because i have no idea what to do with the bulk.
Is it English bulk or Japanese bulk?
