I’m with you Vic. I ended up with a foam mattress from Groupon. I couldn’t cancel order immediately afterward, cancel anywhere in process, return it in the box or refuse it at the door. Lesson learned: no more Groupon.

I don't think that's the problem. The fact is that even American Express not thinking that Groupon's policy was wrong, until after he told them it was, is insane. Which just shows that ethics are nonexistent at these credit card companies.

I was then told I should have just left it open even though I didn’t want it or need it. How the fuck is this even remotely fair? Or even make any sense
@@MrPernell27 Paid off my mortgage and they closed the account. My credit score tanked. However I figured I rather have a lower credit score for a while than have a mortgage payment.
@@MrPernell27 Never cancel a cc, you can call and reduce the available credit or lie & say "job loss" "death in the family" to show loss of income. Don't use the card and they will eventually close the account.

Same, been using only debit card for the past few years. Things have been working out so far
sometimes you need a credit card to book a hotel or rent a car or to make a purchase online, cash or check don't work for everything. some people use debit cards but if that info gets stolen they have access to your full bank account, if your credit card info gets stolen, its not your money and the credit card company will take care of it .
@@DoodleThis Using a debit card online is risky. A credit card gets hacked, usually it's no problem and you're not liable. Your DEBIT card gets compromised and they are in your checking account. No thanks.
@@bionicRod yes but there are options online for temporary digital cards now, but it leaves you in the same position trusting a company to not screw you over. Personally I only order from stores like Amazon and Walmart that have very generous return and refund policies to help avoid such issues. Also have never had a issue with midwayusa.com and they offer great deals if your willing to buy a little higher quantity to get the shipping down.
If a joint doesn't take cash, I take my business elsewhere. Period.
Years ago I had a telemarketer ask me for my credit card # over the phone,when I declined to give info I was told "oh sir your protected by the consumer protection act" yeah right!

The BBB is okay - but toothless. It’s a membership organization and not nearly every business is a member. Government regulators are the ones that need to hear about it - and perhaps a reporter somewhere that specializes in those consumer protection/investigative type pieces. Water Witch agreed. I’m 65 and gave up on credit cards 💳 a long time ago. Way back in my 20s I was proud to pay cash 💰 buying only what I could afford. I saved my money for things I needed not wanted. We buy to to many things we want yet don’t really need with a credit card in my eyes 👀. A credit card is a huge responsibility and can have devastating consequences when not used properly.

Does the vendor who is offering the product via Groupon actually get the minuscule percentage Groupon gives them after taking their more than healthy cut of the deal and just get to keep the product? The pandemic has changed the way business is done in some cases, but it does not give any business the right to cancel an order and not refund monies already paid. That’s fraud!!! It’s perfectly fine that you like Groupon. It’s been a source of good deals for many people. But, it’s not the wholesome well intentioned company the average consumer might think it is.

Wife ordered Cake Pops (back when they were a thing) from Groupon years ago. The deal had an expiration date so I look at it and read the fine print, something along the lines of "only available on a Thursday for 1 hour". Of course this is during normal work hours so they know hardly anyone is going to claim the deal. Never used Groupon again.

Reminds me of 2008 when all the card companies took a hit because of all the bankruptcies and then they just raised interest rates on total balance without any notice, doubling payments and screwed everyone.

That doesn't sound right ! I'm an Amex Card Holder as well. The idiot that took care of you, had to be a rookie. You can file a dispute with Amex at any time for a product you did not receive or services not rendered and request an immediate reversal of the charges pending the investigation of the dispute. Back in April, we had an $8600.00 dispute on a cruise cancellation due to the Covid 19 debacle. It was going to take the cruise line more than 90 days to issue the refund back to my Credit card. Guess what ?? Amex reversed the charge back within 48 hours of my dispute and waited 84 days for the cruise line to respond. In the meantime, I got my money back within 48 hours. That's the way it should have worked for you.

Reminds me of the Seinfeld episode with the massage therapist. George canceled and they charged him full price because it was less than 24 hours to the appointment. The next appointment, the therapist canceled last minute, so George said they owed him.
The consumer protection act needs to be reassessed. Companies must be held responsible. And these foreign scam vendors need to be banned from our country and tariffs need to be introduced and raised for countries that allow their population to continue to scam ours.
