    When you realize that Tannhaus invented time travel for preventing him to invent time travel …
    Bootstrap paradox

      Yes, I see it as his potential to invent time travel saving his family (making actually inventing time travel unnecessary). This is in line with the goal of the "paradise" vision that we kept hearing from Noah. So many ideas in the show come from quantum physics, where some interactions happen based on their potential to happen in the sum of all possible futures.

    Tannhaus did it ! He saved the lives of his son and he will never know :D

      True that. ^^
      Also interesting: This whole thing got started by someone hell bent on saving his child and it ultimately got ended by someone hell bent on saving her child. Full circle once again. :D

    Jonas will not exist, his name is what remain from Hannah's remembers of the end of the world. Or she liked that name so much and that's why she chose it in 2 worlds. I think is more than a feeling of hannah and also related with the words between Martha and Jonas when they were talking if something would remain when they dissapear, something like a dream

    Dark is perfect.
    Never believe anything else.
    Completely agree, Baran and Jantje are something new.
    They have raised the bar so high!!
    I really hope other writers and creatives take note!
    We are blessed because Baran and Jantje's new series 1899 is due around October and a trailer for it coming soon!
    It'll be a period piece/ horror/ mystery.
    They've said it's as complex as Dark was.
    I cannot wait!
    It was fun watching with you!
    Thanks!
    I highly recommend Black Sails.
    Top tier storytelling/writing and characters!

    The developmemt of the story is indeed among the best I have ever seen. One advantage they had: they had it planned out from the start. They wanted to make three seasons, they wanted to finish the story in that way... none of that "Oh, if the show is successful, we will milk it for as long as we can" nonsense you see ruining so many good shows.
    Was the "origin world" a bit of a deus-ex-machina? Yes, it might have seemed so. But as you said: it made perfect sense in the context of the story.
    But that's another strong point of the writing: it stayed captivating until the very end. It might still have turned into an unexpected direction. There were several headcannons even during the last episode... that Martha and Jonas landing in the original world _might have been_ the cause for the accident, and thus starting it all over again. Didn't happen... but from all we knew... it might have.
    Another point that has often been mentioned in comments: Tannhaus' plan ultimately worked. He wanted to build a machine that brought his family back. And the machine he build... it did so. It a bit of a convoluted way... but in the end, it worked.
    A perfect ending. Never believe anything else.
    ...
    What should you watch next? Well, you said that you will do something completely different. But if you want to do something "mysterious" again... "Orphan Black" is a great show with lovable characters and an interesting story. And if you can ignore the "just another season because it was successful" problem: "Heroes", from the early 2000's was a lot of fun, at least in the first season.

      I know some think the origin world was a copout, but it really wasn't.
      They showed us the 3 world's in the S1 opening credits.
      It's right there in the very last shot of the opening credits lol
      Another clever hidden in plain sight clue that Dark did so masterfully.
      That, and how the number three and the trinity knot are brought up over and over through the whole series.
      It was in play the whole series.

    • @Groffili
      @Groffili Před 2 lety +1

      @@belinda35_77 You might argue that the origin world and the solution - even as an original story concept - was a cop-out. A compromise between the tone of the story in itself, and the narrative requirement of the series as a story.
      All through the series, all we have seen was the knot. With every new revelation we were told that nothing changes; with every new character arc, we were shown that the whole thing is just a gigantic bootstrap paradox.
      And that leads - or can lead, at least for some people like me - to a bit of a conflict.
      For a story, we as humans want to have a conclusion. We want mysteries to have a solution.
      But on the other hand, if such a solution doesn't fit the overall tone of the story, it can feel shallow and unsatisfying.
      I think "Dark" walked a very fine line here, and it managed to pull it off. Not perfectly, but better than many others.
      It would have worked just as well if they had indeed restarted the loop with Martha and Jonas in the origin world.
      It would left us thinking "WTF?" instead of "What a wonderful world"... but can anyone sincerely say it wouldn't have been a perfect fit for this tale?

      Orphan Black is a great rec!
      Tatiana is a absolute phenomenon!!
      She deserved all the awards for her performance, I know she did get some Golden Globes and finally her Emmy in S5.

    I think there is a bit of meta commentary here. Many people get frustrated that everything that occurs in the show was always going to happen and characters have no free will, but characters in any story have no free will and go through what was set out for them. The final dialogue between Martha and Jonas applies to all fictional characters. They never existed really and were just a dream.

  • @belinda35_77

    About the 3rd world coming into play at the end.
    It wasn't a last minute copout.
    They show us 3 worlds in the S1 opening credits.
    The very last shot in the opening credits is of the 3worlds.
    Another clever "hidden in plain sight" clue Dark does so masterfully.
    Also the #3 and trinity knot are brought up over and over again throughout all three seasons.
    It was in play the whole time lol

      @MasterOnion North
      Yep.
      Like I said 3 worlds were in play the whole time, that's why it really bothers me when people try and say the end was a copout.
      Me and my Dark buddy actually discussed the 3 worlds in S1 when we noticed that last shot in the intro credits lol
      When Elizabeth found that picture in Taunhaus old book I think we both jumped outta our chairs lol that same picture is also hanging in Adams lair, we see Noah looking at it.
      By mid S3 we were convinced the 3 worlds would be end game... We didn't know how but we it would be key, for all the reasons I mentioned and the ones you mentioned.
      One of my favorite "hidden in plain sight" clues besides the 3 worlds, was seeing Michael hang himself and then Mikkel running around in a skeleton costume lol
      That was absolutely brilliant!!

      The 307 and 308 Tannhaus stuff was definitely a "holy shit" moment!
      I was floored by the whole Tannhaus destroyed his world and created the other two, out of grief over his family.
      It was really perfect and I never seen it coming!

    The only thing to make the ending better would've been if Alexander had been there with Regina as he wasn't part of the loop

    • @AngusSees
      @AngusSees  Před 2 lety +1

      True, although it is not really surprising that he isn't there, as Ulrich was an integral part of the development that led to him and Regina meeting and falling in love in the scenario we know. With Ulrich out of the picture, chances are that they never even meet each other, as Aleksander is already 21 years old and therefore won't go to school in Winden.

    Danke schön! Enjoyed the journey with you. Bo and Jantje are amazing and hope they will come close to this with their new project, 1899. Hope you'll be reacting to it.
    btw, we get a clue who Regina's father is in the photo on the wall in the Origin world. Hopefully he wasn't as creepy as in Adam's world.

    Thank you so much for these great reactions! In my opinion Dark is the best show ever, maybe because for me the story and logic are more important than the characters. But I still believe that the characters here are more realistic than in most other shows - that's just how people are. They are not "good" or "bad" but even if they have good intentions they act selfish, they are lying, unreliable, sometimes angry for stupid reasons and have no idea what they actually really want most of the time.
    There are very few shows with characters I really love and/or can relate to and those shows are weaker in too many other perspectives to even come close to Dark in my ranking. Maybe except for the characters in Dark I have to rate every single aspect of the show (writing, directing, cinematography, acting, soundtrack, casting, visual effects, sound design, sets/locations,.....) with ten out of ten.

    This show was incredibly well done and you seemed to keep track of things really well. I was somewhat lost in Season 3 and the ending was kinda something we didn't see until they told us. Although I was a bit confused at the end when I thought there should have been a couple other people at the table but looking up some articles about the family trees and I guess I missed some things. A bittersweet ending but emotionally rewarding. I agree with your entire assessment. A phenomenal series. Still don't like Hannah,. :)

    • @AngusSees
      @AngusSees  Před 2 lety +1

      I feel you, season 3 was quite a lot with the second world and all the new things we had to deal with, there were a few moments when I was pretty frustrated because I did not know what was going on. But ultimately, I think they managed to bring all of this to a nice ending that also makes sense in the world of the show. Bittersweet, yes, but I guess that's the best we could've asked for. Would've surprised me more if we would've gotten a "true" happy ending. ^^

    • @AngusSees
      @AngusSees  Před 2 lety

      @@artboymoy That must've been when they went 33 years into the future in Eva's world. Their apocalypse turned everything into a desert.
      Which was pretty interesting to me, because in Adam's world you can travel to 1953/1986/2019 but in Eva's world you can travel to 1986/2019/2052. And this means that the original wormhole in Eva's world was created in 2019 and not in 1986 like in Adam's world.
