  • #124 We're putting Rainbird drip irrigation tubes in on another area of our garden, but what should have been a simple process turned into a day long adventure/mystery trying to figure out why it wasn't working. Something things just don't go the way you would hope, but in the end we got it all worked out. Praise God. +AMDG

    Resilience! Congratulations on not giving up and working till you solved the problem! Fine young men helping you.

      Thanks - and yes, we're blessed with wonderful children!

    We gonna be doing some dip lines on our garden in the fall and for the foreseeable future so this was a welcome video. Thank you!

      Chick-a-Woof Ranch Great - glad the video could be of help. Once we got the well issues resolved, the systems started working really well. Going to be a huge relief not to worry about watering and spend limited time doing other things.

    Looks like you got it working well; drip drip drip...way to go! I knew you wouldnt let it outsmart you! You guys are going to have a ton of tomatoes and peppers.

      Well, if we can get them to grow, yes. Hopefully, we'll sell a bunch of them, but we're also planning to donate the extra to a food pantry in Raleigh that actually offers fresh produce.

    The sediment won’t hurt the garden but it could plug the drip lines.... I’ve heard a lot of issues with lines getting plugged with small pieces of sand and crud from the well over time!

      Thank you for sharing that, and really good point that we hadn't considered. We're hoping we can get the filters back in at some point soon. Not sure why the sediment level is so high. Hasn't been like this in the past. Life on the farm: there is so much to learn about so many things.

      An oxidative water treatment system can prevent the lines blocking, these mineralize the sediment and feed them to plants, they also oxygenate the water and this improves soil bulk density, an example is Puricare's Advanced Oxidation Process (P-AOP) .

    Put your pipes in a ring feed and you wont have any problems in a ring feed the pres is the same in the front as the back I have 80 olive trees in 6 rowes and only one supply and it works 100%

      Really great idea. Eventually, we will need to run lines out to our orchard and will do this very thing - thank you!

    Just a thought, If you don't filter the sediment out of the water, will you eventually end up having issues with your drip line clogging up with sediment? We have a well at the cottage and I seen first hand what it can do to a hot water tank and kettle. Any chance there some kind of filter meant to pull out large particles and not impede the flow.
    Worse case scenario, you will need to clean out your drip hoses at the end of the season with some CLR.

      Very good questions. Looking into a less fine filter. You're probably right about worst case scenario. It seems it is always something on the farm - one challenge to solve after another, but we love it all the same!

    This is what we use: www.dripworks.com/1-2-emitter-tubing-9-spacing-0-5-gph - They have a pressure compensating valve, so they all come on at the same time and emit the same amount of water. We abuse them, leave them outside in the winter, flush them in the spring and they are good to go, going on for five years now. We also use the EasyLoc connectors to make everything simple.

      Excellent! Thank you for the recommendation - we really appreciate it!

    How fine are the filters? I would love to hear more about the green house. Keep up the great work!

      Hmmm. Good question and point. They're not very fine (mostly for catching sediment), but there might be other options for the same purpose that aren't as fine. Honestly, thanks for asking that question.

      A couple of years, yes. It's a reference to George Clooney's frequent line in "O Brother Where Art Though." Blessings to you as well!

    Noticed what looks like epi pens on your belt and you have videos about beekeeping. Don't want to assume you have a bee allergy but if you do, how do you manage beekeeping and remain safe/healthy?

    • @zachpw
      @zachpw Před 6 lety

      mcraw4d He’s talked about it several times in his bee videos, and I think there might be a whole video on the subject. I believe he last said that his family is doing the up-close work for now, and that he’s in the process of bee venom conditioning therapy (they give small doses of venom periodically to acclimate the body).

      Yes, I am allergic to honeybee venom, and just started (finally) venom immunotherapy. Going to take many months to get up to full desensitization (God willing). Until then, if I have to be around the bees (heavy lifting), I wear enough gear that it would be virtually impossible for a bee to sting me.

      @mcraw4d Před 6 lety

      Best of luck with the immunotherapy!
