Drip Irrigation & Capturing a Honeybee Swarm

- #123 We installed a drip irrigation system in our garden using Toro Blue Line hose left on our farm by previous owners. The system is controlled by an Orbit water timer. This is long overdue and alleviates us of time spent watering the garden by hand everyday. It is also far more efficient because it only puts water where is is needed.
We also caught a swarm of bees in one of our DIY swarm traps. We tested the idea that you can move bees more than three feet and less than three miles, by simply putting obstructions in the way of the hive entrance, causing them to reorient to the new location. It worked for the swarm trap we moved and another hive we relocated about twenty yards from it's original location. +AMDG

I just use old leaky and split hoses..... electric tape where I don't want water weaping, and drill holes where I want them. Garden bliss on a budget!

We wish we were bee masters! We still feel like anything approaching that title is many decades of experience (and mistakes) away. We've tried to share some of our bee mistakes, but trust me when I say there are more that we've not uploaded. Bees do seem to be so simple, but are in many ways the most complex organisms we've ever worked with. When we first started with bees, we encouraged others to beekeeping. We're far more conservative about that encouragement now. 😬

Ha! Wondered about that as I was saying it in the video. Cool to know folks on the other side of the world are watching. As to the greenhouse - unfortunately, the earth battery system is too small to offset the passive solar gain of the summer sun. We would have to have much larger fans, and larger pipes and manifolds. It should work great in the winter to keep it above freezing, but it just can't move enough air to cool it off (even though the system does reduce intake temperatures 30-40 degrees.

Please know that I am EXTREMELY careful around the beehives (and I'm rarely around them anymore). Always wearing a thick suit, boots, double gloves. I suppose it's not impossible that a bee could sting me through all of that, but VERY, VERY unlikely. And yes, I always have my epipens on me - in a pouch on my belt all the time. Never go anywhere without them! Thank you for your concern though! Blessings to you as well!
@@StIsidoresFarm I've read that people who are around honeybees for long periods, and even extended family members who they're in contact with can develop allergies and become hypersensitive to bee sting venom. The preventative cure to developing these autoimmune responses is to deliberately expose yourself and family members to bee venom periodically. Maybe one sting a year or two. Not pleasant but beats rushing your child into hospital with anaphylactic shock.
You have great videos, please keep them coming. I am wondering where you get your water from. Do you have a well or a pond? If you don't have a pond, have you considered creating one?
Thank you for the feedback and encouragement. We really do appreciate it. Yes, we do have a pond. Sadly, just before we bought this farm, the previous owners removed a really nice pump from the pond and sold it. They had 2" pvc pipes running all the way from the pond to what is now our garden and greenhouse(s) area. They bypassed and old farm well midway. We have since restored the farm well as it also provides water to our shop bathroom.
