‘Bird of Prey’ the opening track from 1971’s Salisbury album, the first time I ever heard Uriah Heep on a hi-fi, David Byron’s voice soars to the heavens.
it's simply and AWESOME Rock Song...Listen to that Organ Growling...!!! I have always loved this song since I first heard it when I was a kid back in 1972 !!!
Short and sweet just like you said. David Byron (RIP) was a great singer and showman too. Gotta love that driving Hammond organ sound. How about ”The Spell” from the same album. Great track with slide guitar solo and nice choral.
Great British song writer who wrote about 700 songs was from Uriah Heep in Ken Hensley. The man on the Hammond organ, slide guitar and singing too. Died a few days ago. 😭
Uriah Heep is terrific, some call them a poor man's Deep Purple but I don't see it. They have a clear identify of their own. They are still active today although with new members. Easy Livin comes off of the Demons and Wizards album which is a classic. Some of my other favorite songs from them are Lady in Black, Bird of Prey, Gypsy, Stealin', Traveler in Time, The Wizard, July Morning, Tears in My Eyes, and Come Away Melinda. There are so many great ones. These are all from the classic era but there are some more current songs worth checking out as well.
I agree, but Heep were Deep Purple's wannabe at the beginning. It is true. Even here Easy living is Purple's style especially hammond's parts. Also Look at your self has Purple's style. But it is okay, I love Heep, but people knows less about this great band, americans especially.
Check out the song The Pilgrim. Epic heavy/operatic masterpiece. Way ahead of it’s time. They were an excellent band with some heavy songs with some slightly proggy leanings. And the singer, David Byron, was one of the very best singers ever - regardless of genre. The bassist, Gary Thain was also ridiculously good. Too bad they both died so young.
If you want something different from short and sweet, may I suggest Salisbury, their sweeping 16-minute epic from their album by the same name. A long listen, for sure, but it shows their range brilliantly, and features several blistering lead solos by Mick Box. As for Easy Livin', no one remarks about the exquisite bass line by the late Gary Thain. While not a great example of virtuosity, it is perfectly suited to this song, and clearly evident. I would say it is worthy of something that Paul McCartney might have come up with. Ken Hensley's Hammond organ is steaming throughout. It's too bad more bands didn't use organ because it can make a huge difference to a band's sound -- witness Afterglow by the Small Faces, You Keep Me Hanging On by Vanilla Fudge, House of the Rising Sun by the Animals, and every Deep Purple song ever done (I hope the church canonizes Jon Lord some day). This song is one of my favourite driving songs, along with Radar Love (Golden Earring), Already Gone (the Eagles), Highway Star (Deep Purple), and two songs by Canadian recluse rocker Aldo Nova, Heartless, and Heart to Heart.
I found reaction videos about a year ago, on a cold winter night , surfing the channels. checked out most out there. I like the way you go about it. It has a bit of class to it. Really enjoyed it. I checked out the rest of your stuff, looks like you are just getting started. Look forward to the next. Be Well.
This is from the beginning of their Rock/Pop era. If you want to enjoy their incredible Progressive era, try some of the following. Gypsy, July Morning, Look At Yourself, Salisbury, Bird of Prey, Shadows of Grief, Tears In My Eyes (live versions), and Circle of Hands (definitely the Live version from UH LIve in 72.
Sort of agree with you, but while they did add more rock/pop to their sound after Kerslake and Thain joined, they still did mostly progressive rock on Demons & Wizards and the Magician's Birthday. Sweet Freedom was a real swing toward rock/pop.
This is sad. You both enjoyed the band and song, and wanted more... And left us in the wings, wanting more as well, since Dec 16, 2019. I'm new, but wondering what happened? Why didn't you go back?
Uriah Heep is one band I really wasn't totally into. I did have the Demons & Wizards album and it really kicked ass, but as a whole, they didn't grab me and pull me in.
Your comment. 'I think they are British' WOT! London Uriah Heep are British music legends one of the forerunners of heavy progressive music. Still going with Music Box the only original member of the group since 1969.😊
Their song, "Rain" has an enduring quality, featuring the vocals more than the band's energy for which they were more generally known, I suspect. I love y'all's accent. May I ask which part of the UK you reflect? It is awfully pretty. I live in Charlotte, North Carolina whose distant mountains have manglings deemed permanently indecipherable, so it's nice to hear it done well.
They were on Gtr Heroe ddnt kno. Heep are great. Pilgrim, lady in black, sunrise, love or nothing, sympathy, return to fantasy, look @ urself. Gd shit..
The 70:ies was great, UK explodeed with bands as Uriha Heep who are so underrated, the are as important and as good as Deep Purple but not as famous, they, together with Deep Purple, Led Zeplin, Black Sabbath and, also underrated, Nazareth, made rock to heavy metal
Hey, you did one I recommended! Sweet! You just got yourself another subscriber. Normally back in the day when I listened to Uriah Heep I was young and quite high. lol Come Away Melinda is a Heep anti-war song. It`s 180 degrees different from Easy Livin`. What is your normal everyday playlists like?
I wasn't high when i first heard them buuutt...maybe after???..lol..Good question about what reactors listen to in the "day to day"...never thought to ask that..Keep Rock'n Terry!
The Spell. I can't quite figure out what it's about, but I believe it's either another part of the Blue Oyster Cult Desdinova story (Astronomy) or it's a dialogue between God and Satan. I'm leaning more towards the latter.
‘Bird of Prey’ the opening track from 1971’s Salisbury album, the first time I ever heard Uriah Heep on a hi-fi, David Byron’s voice soars to the heavens.
Timeless. There will never be a generation that don't respect this. I want his played at my Bar Mitzvah, wedding, funeral and arraignment hearing
From Canada Grew up with the Heep

R.I.P. Ken. I am Hammond player too and you are one of m top idols.
Most underrated band ever...in my humble opinion...❤🎵👍🎸🤟✌
I had a music tape with their greatest Hits as a kid I fecking loved it :)
RIP Ken Hensley 1945-2020
John Lawton recently died, another Heepster. Only Mick Box left from the original Heep
Lady In Black, Uriah Heep. The Wizard
TEARS IN MY EYES IS ANOTHER GREAT ONE,PEACE.

listen to that bass! Ah yes the teen years
He'll ya the band player was killing it on this song
Fantástica canción y gran banda.
Absolutely love the first reactions to the bands that I love!
We're all unique. If I listened to this song on the way to work, I'd arrive like a raging crazy person.
Tears in my eyes awesome jam too!

Lady in Black. Simple and beautiful.

The wizard, sweet Lorain, and Sunrise
Probably the most underrated band ever!

How about July morning or the Sunrise from Uriah Heep?

July morning and Salisbury are 2 epic tracks you should consider. You won't be disappointed
A few of my favourites are "Between two worlds" "The Hanging Tree" "Wise Man" "Knocking at my Door"
You should check their song called Lady in Black, a great rock ballad.
Deep Purple ...Burn...version from California Jam 1974. . amazing moment
Uriah Heep was a character in David Copperfield.
This is sad. You both enjoyed the band and song, and wanted more... And left us in the wings, wanting more as well, since Dec 16, 2019. I'm new, but wondering what happened? Why didn't you go back?

Gary Thain bass, from here, christchurch, new zealand
Stealin' is a great Uriah Heep song. Starts off a bit country but then erupts into full prog rock. Cheers and be well. proto-metal goodness.
A REALLY GOOD tune by Uriah Heep is "STEALIN". Play and review that song!
This song is about being saved by our Lord Jesus Christ!...best song ever!!
Great song!

if rock and roll hasn't already deafened us geezers, you certainly won't.
I love the entire Demons and Wizards LP; don't care for any of their other stuff.
They were on Gtr Heroe ddnt kno.
Heep are great. Pilgrim, lady in black, sunrise, love or nothing, sympathy, return to fantasy, look @ urself.
Gd shit..
🖤
Uriah Heep was very popular in Finland in seventies, it was as popular than Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin and Rainbow. I bought all these bands LP:s.
Yeah Nazareth, criminally underated, as were The Sensational Alex Harvey Band

Check out "Look At Yourself" from same album
The girls liked getting thrown around on the dance floor to this One.
It's the Hammond organ. R.I.P. Ken Hensley.
Always loved this song, just wish it had one more verse. This song should have gone over 3 minutes.
The Spell. I can't quite figure out what it's about, but I believe it's either another part of the Blue Oyster Cult Desdinova story (Astronomy) or it's a dialogue between God and Satan. I'm leaning more towards the latter.
You should try the tracks: Wizzard or Cirle of Hands- powerful songs (of course form the same LP)...
Yeah..."a little bit of harmonization..." Just a little..............
The only thing wrong with that song is that it’s too short...otherwise..a masterpiece
y hrd a cpl of Songs from Uriah but y never heard Easy Living....????? Moment
Right?
Will you be the first to react to John West(Royal Hunt,Artension)?
Spider Woman Uriah Heep
Hey dude , are sure of your gf , she was so nervous , ask her ;)
The hottest 2 minutes (ish) in rock!
Salisbury....the song. Very much Progressive Rock.
Is this about the writer finding Jesus?
Ken Hensley was a prolific writer for them and he was a religious man
The british accent, newer heard, c.mon...
Stealing. Is another great tune by UH.
