    Their first three albums are their best. The third on, "Look at Yourself" is one of my all time favorite albums. They were much harder rock and even metal. Them and Deep Purple really got that genre rolling.

    Uriah Heep have several facets in their albums, I love them all. In the song Firefly it is Ken Hensley who sings lead vocals most of the time. John Lawton is more present on the other titles.

    Life long Heepster here. I first saw them live in 1971 I beleive. Just before they released Look at Yourself. Then again in 2015 and 2018. Awesome band and part of what makes them so great is that they have lost members and replaced them with equally talented musicians. They create new music and can still perform the very complex songs of yesteryear.

    Their best album in my opinion is Sweet Freedom. Heep and Grand Funk Railroad were my favorite bands when I was a kid. Please check out PILGRIM by Uriah Heep. Love your channel.

      @@retroreactions.... Uriah Heep had reached the peak of their creativityand musicianship from 1971-73 with the 4 albums "Look At Yourself", "Demons And Wizards", "The Magician's Birthday" and "Sweet Freedom". They are all awesome from start to finish. and highly recommended to discover.
      Guitarist Mick Box still keeps the band alive nowadays, though it's very sad to tell he now is the only surviving band member of the glory days. The current line-up is still amazing to listen to, with their recent albums "Living The Dream" (2018) and "Chaos And Colour" (2023). I hope I can see them on tour in summer this year (maybe the last chance with Mick Box at age 77 now)

    Great breeze from the past, in the style of Deep purple (that Distorted Hammond organ) in a smoother way, vocal chorus reminds me of Styx, great voice by the way. Yes! nice keyboard moods, string machines as they usually got in the seventies, I didn't heard them as much. But remember they were prolific. Thanks for digging these songs for us, Brandon. Have a nice week!

    Man….what did we do to deserve such an amazing week?? Loved hearing these two songs. I really enjoyed Rainbow Demon, as you know I’m partial to the Demons and Wizards album. Unfortunately Firefly wasn’t the best received album, although I think it’s pretty solid! John Lawton could be another rabbit hole, as I’ve got a few albums from his former band Lucifer’s Friend, as well as his solo work. As far as you mentioning hearing “Rainbow Demon” live….check your email! I think it finally worked!

      Haha! Super rockin week for sure. Next week I'll be going in some different directions.... RD SO cool.... I am certain the rest of that album is amazing as you say. I'm guessing it's the same case with UH of "got less love and enthusiasm from the public as we move to the late 70s and full on into the 80s"... Seems to have happened with Yes, ELP, and many others, at least based on Spotify numbers. Ah, so John went solo too. Will check email shortly!! Thanks..

    Thanks, always was one of my fav bands - have seen them several times live and they always were fire. They released a fantastic new album last year (Chaos and Colour) that hails back to their early days with a lot of prog metal influence - well they kind of co-invented the genre. Demons and Wizards is one of the big four albums that founded Metal. The other were Paranoid by Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin IV, and Deep Purple's Machine Head. All released a few months from each other.
    You already did some epics by them. Try out Pilgrim, Stealing, Return to Fantasy or one of their new tracks like Rocks in the Road from 2018. Bernie Shaw is their lead singer for the longest time now and he is really good (no David, he is unreplaceable, but still great). You should once go to one of their gigs, really worthwhile and Mick is the coolest, always smiling bandleader and guitarist.
    BTW Firefly - song and album are one of their best. Fans love it, but outside of the fandom only the pop hit Free Me from this era (from Innocent Victim) is famous. But Hanging Tree, Wise Man or Sympathy are also highlights of the album.

    Hi Brandon, you picked 2 very great songs from the massive Heep catalogue, though those are not been considered as part of their "all time classics", as they never have been released as singles.
    As you mentioned, "Rainbow Demon" has the great David Byron on vocals. 1972, when it was released on the "Demons And Wizards" album, put Heep to the heights of their popularity back then.
    You're right, with "Firefly", the album and the title song from 1977, David Byron was gone and John Lawton was hired to be their new lead singer. But Ken Hensley, the keyboarder and composer of the song, sang the lead vocals on the first verses until the middle section (he also sang some occasional leads during the time with David Byron, f.ex. on their very popular song "Lady In Black from 1971). John Lawton sings lead in the final section. When you watch more carefully, you hear the different tone in their voices.

      Hi Max! Wow, both songs are so strong, I'm shocked that neither was a single! Wow, thanks for the info on Ken singing. I wish Wikipedia would have told me that beforehand. I will have to listen again for that. Thanks so much for stopping by and commenting!!

    Heep-fan since 1970! Leadsinger of Firefly was - of course - Ken Hensley (RIP). Only other song of Heep with Ken as leadsinger: Lady In Black. More David Byron? The Wizard, Time To Live, Circle Of Hands, Wonderworld, Echoes In The Dark & Weep In Silence - to name a few. More ballads? Why Did You Go, Your Turn To Remember & Rain. Heavy Metal: Shadows Of Grief! My favourite John Lawton songs are Wise Man & Illusion - highly recommended. Favourite John Sloman song: Out In The Street.

    • @billg763
      @billg763 Před měsícem +1

      Lawton was perhaps my favourite lead singer. Not all their albums were as good at the 'classic' line-up, but The Dance, Illusion, Come Back to Me, Free Me were all very powerful vocal performances.
