How I got scammed on Mercari, Seller Melbel, FedEx Smart Post Shipper Scam Alert No Item No Refund,

- The problem with this transaction is that I used my Mercari leftover funds to pay for the item; so, I wasn't able to dispute it with my credit card; only Mercari and they would not let me dispute it. I did not mark the item delivered because as soon as I found out it wasn`t delivered; I contacted the seller and Mercari. Mercari played around for a while saying to keep a lookout and to contact the seller. I contacted the seller; she pretended that she was going to put in a claim for me. She didn't. She blocked me instead. I called Fed Ex madd times (multiple times) and they said that I could not put in a complaint because I wasn't the one who shipped it which led me back to Mercari. I begged Mercari to open or file a claim on my behalf and they refused. Ultimately, they took my money and let the seller have her money and I was out of the product and my money all because they claim it says it was marked delivered (which it was marked delivered) but Fed Ex never delivered it and pretended that they did and since I was not the shipper; Fed Ex Smart Post refused to let me put in a claim. Seller had already blocked me, so she lied and didn't follow through with helping me.
Moral of the story; don't pay with your Mercari funds that are left inside your Mercari account because in case of a dispute; you won't be able to.

Usually they can reverse the charges. Request a chargeback and your bank or CC will pull the money from Mercari or Seller.

I didn't use a credit card. I had used the money I already had in Mercari escrow. This is why they were able to treat me like they did. I won't use money I have made via Mercari again to pay just for reasons like this.

Hate to say this but you got scammed by FedEx and your not alone, Mercari nor the seller can control tracking updates, only FedEx or buyer can confirm delivery, from my experience.
I know I got scammed by Fed Ex, but Mercari's fault because they keep letting this happen to other sellers. They are the ones offering this shipping option and if they know that buyers are not going to be able to track their items; then why offer it? Oh I know. Because they have a contract with Fed Ex and most packages might not get lost but the few that are; then it's the buyers loss. Fed Ex still got paid, Mercari and the seller got paid; Buyer is at a total loss. I've been selling online for 14 years straight so I'm aware that none of the shipping options really do anything even when paying for insurance. They usually do deliver packages; considering on how many they actually deliver; they do a great job; but the many that are lost; they do nothing but string customers along.

Yeah, no smart sellers use Fedex they are a horrible company. Your item may have gotten lost due to FedEx, the seller just shipped it and it isn't her fault it got lost or misdelivered and stolen. Her only job is to ship the item. She could have contacted Fedex and given you an updated of what's going on though.
Yup, I totally understand. And that's also what she said she was gonna do until she made sure FedEx wasn't going to look into it and then blocked me. So she's still a bad seller.

IMPORTANT!!! I am a buyer and seller on mercari. The way to avoid this issue is to create a return for the item within 3 days of delivery. Select any of the valid return reasons then explain the situation. Screenshot the messages between the seller and yourself. You will get the refund and the seller can get the money from FedEx or USPS. You have to do this within 3 days of the delivery date. After the funds are released to the seller. There is nothing the seller can do to reimburse you because it’s considered going off platform and it would be breaking the terms of service which could get them banned from the platform. Please if anyone is in the situation they did not receive an item, and it has been marked as delivered, create a return! Mercari will give your money back.
Mercari is pretty safe! I’ve never had any issues with selling or buying. Plus the buyer protection is nice. It’s no different than eBay.

If that doesn't work. Contact your bank and do a chargeback. If they want to scam you. Tell the bank you want your money back. Problem solved!
I didn't pay through my bank. I paid through Mercari Escrow. So Mercari controls it.

Yehhh, FedEx is a scammer; especially the SmartPost shipping. That one; a buyer can't dispute; only can get info from the seller and if the seller isn't helpful; then it's the buyers loss after they have already paid.

I couldn't. I used the money stored in Mercari; not a bank but I ended up doing it a different way and still getting a refund months later since they wanted to play.
Mercari has screwed me with broken items i sent refunding buyer but no paying on insurance for not having enough packing that wasnt sent back with it in the return. Stuff like that

I added an extra item to be nice yes to be nice in addition to what she bought. Now she claims she never got the item. Only what I gave her to be nice.

Yes, I have had that happen to me in the past as well; give something free and then the person either acts as though they didn't get the whole package, or they even complained about the free item I gave them lolllolol.
I really take pics of what I sell now IN the box before I send it out and I will take a pic of the shipping label affixed to the box before I tape up. I don’t delete these pics until after the transaction is complete
I sold a table, the person received the table and I received zero dollars!! I'm chocked! I just hope it's a mistake because I'm really upset that I lost the money from the sale and my table.

I didn’t even want another item because I think this was all she had. It was the fact that the shipping method she used; makes it difficult for the buyer to put in a claim because Fed Ex has its rules. I just hope I never have to use them again.

That's a shame. The only problem with Mercari and disputing is that if you use your money that is left in Mercari; then you can't dispute. That's why I don't pay with my Mercari money anymore.

A seller tried to be slick with a bundle of Beatles memorabilia after I even offered a free yellow submarine hot wheel if they bought the bundle for $40 they tried to swindle me down to everything for $35. I didn't hesitate to refund them their money and cancel the order and them. I don't need your scandalous money.

This is why you don’t give a rating in order to report them. It’s a bad system that essentially allows bad actors because you almost have to say you received the item before you can get to the point where you can file a complaint. Sorry this happened but you need to be more careful with obviously suspiciously low priced items and also always reading the fine print; a literal warning window tells you that if you click this, the funds will be released to the seller.

You might have to call Paypal and speak to a higher person and ask them to look into it. I would try it at least one more time.
And that's how I feel about Instagram. They create fake accounts and hacker accts and then play with the ppl on IG so that we spend more time on the site and it looks like they have more engagement.

I had a question when you block someone once you message them will they still see the last messages from your previous thread or do they all disappear I’m asking because this person only when she was interested in the item was messaging me back and forth the moment the item was delivered to her. She completely disregard to please rate me as it had already been two days since the delivery date and I needed to pay bills and Mercari will not release the funds until the buyer rates you I know and I get it. It’s three days or Mercari will automatically reach you but I go out of my way. To ship my items in a timely matter literally the same day I ship all my packages since I have all the shipping material at home including a thermal printer to make things easier and convenient for myself, and the buyer and I get this in return so I block the buyer from future purchases. I just hope she seen my last messages telling her she’s blocked.
If she blocks you first, then she won't see any of your messages and usually It will have a message saying that it won't go through... sometimes after Mercari ppl block you.

Mercari seems to be okay if you are dealing with honest sellers. But the second you run into a problem where the item comes damaged due to shipping and not packaged properly they seem to make it very hard to prove your case. Almost like they're protecting the seller.

I haven't had that problem again but I also make sure I don't pay with my Mercari balance unless I trust the seller.

Dude I am in the same situation. All the sudden today my usps shipment is supposed to be “delivered” and I look at the tracking number on the usps website and all it shows is “label created” , “arrived at post office” and “out for delivery” never was able to see the “in transit” stops so I’m getting worried. The Mercari shipper was short, snippy and rude to me the entire time.

Yes you do; and I never left the review; but also if you don't leave a review within a few days; Mercari automatically releases the funds to the seller. I believe you get about 3 days.
Correct last time I purchased, it gave me an option to accept package and leave review, during this acceptance option is when you would've had an opportunity to say you didn't receive your item. But yes your right after 3 days of confirm delivery an automatic review is left if buyer doesn't take action.

I have purchased & sold many items on mercari & when you purchase an item and it stats that it was delivered mercari then sends you a message asking if you received the item. They don’t release the funds without your confirmation unless it’s been over 3 days since the original message then the release the funds to the seller. I don’t understand if you did not receive it and you immediately confirmed that you did not receive the item mercari would have not released the funds to the seller.

Thanks 😊 | No It was a scam because Mercari knows what they can and can’t get away with so they used it to their advantage but I’ll never use my inside payment again and that’s how I’ll work around that incase something like this happens in the future.
Can always use a credit card as well and do a chargeback from your bank. Never use a debit card. That's not right for Mercari to allow sellers to use FedeX smart post. Buyers definitely can get scanned that way. There's no way i telling if a seller actually sent off the shoes or not
Not an exaggeration at all...what part of the person *BLOCKED* her, don't you understand? An ethical seller would have stuck it out until they both got to the bottom of what happened. It would have bothered them that the item was lost.
Mercari won’t let me sell anymore and I have all positive buyer reviews I’ve sold for almost a year one person complain. They got my account shut down one whole person and I refunded her her money and I’m a disabled veteran that was how I made my money, staying home to work from home one person to ruin my whole way of making money in my account when everyone else had positive reviews, so sad, everyone be kind to one another

Yeh, I reported it right away and even called FedEx plenty of times to check on the status and deal with the issue and both were unable to help. With this particular shipping, only the seller can make a report since they shipped it and the seller had blocked me after she got the money and since it was Mercari's platform; Mercari was no help as they could not make the buyer unblock me and do right, but they also did not do their part either as they were the ones who created the shipping label.
And they act like it's all real in the commercials
I have gotten some good items off of there, not gonna lie. There are many decent sellers. I just hate when they use FedEx to ship.

Yes, it is true. but I didn't rate. It is also true that if the buyer does not rate within 3 days; the funds are automatically released to the seller.

You can't, or at least I am not sure how to. I had never looked or checked before. I guess once they ship; you'll be able to tell by checking the tracking number.

Because you know when you pick the option to have Mercari send you the label; it's one of those; so ultimately Mercari is contributing to this mess and a search online shows that this Fed Ex Smart Post shipping is a problem with many people which means; either the people at Fed Ex are mishandling packages or stealing them because they know they can get away with it.

Why would your item not get to you? If it says delivered means it was delivered to your address you provided , mercari can only give the seller a tracking number if you put your address on file. Unless u put a wrong address.
I have 14 years of online selling and shipping experience and sometimes Fed Ex and USPS mis-deliver or send items to the neighbor or wrong address even though they scan ot delivered. Remember, they scan the zip code delivered… not thee actual address….online.

As I stated, once the item was not actually delivered to me, I called FedEx and FedEx said that in order to track the item; I would need the SHIPPER to call and put in a claim. The seller then blocked me. So the seller was pretending to at first go put in a claim but then she never did and that's the only way to track the package or try and get a refund. Therefore, the seller is a bad seller. Then once I kept calling FedEx, they told me it's the shipper; which is actually Mercari since they used a Mercari prepaid label. Mercari didn't want to call FedEd or put in a claim either. These are bad practices in my opinion but if you're find with these things happening, then...that's you.

The shipper is Mercari since it was their pre-paid shipping label sent to the seller for the seller to send me the item. Because the item was never really delivered; I was instructed by Fed Ex to contact the shipper; which would be the seller; the seller blocked me; but because the shipping label actually came from Mercari; then Mercari is the shipper. The shipper, which is Mercari gave me the run around and did not want to take responsibility, but I filed a claim against Mercari and ended up getting my money back another way since they didn't want to take accountability for the shipping label they printed and the carrier they used that did not really deliver the item I paid for.
How do you prevent this from happening?
You have to make sure the seller does not ship using Mercaris' Fed Ex Smart Post Labels, otherwise; there's a chance this could happen. If you do use Smart Post; then make sure you use your PayPal so you can put in a claim in the event you do not receive your order. Otherwise; if you use the money you have built in on Mercari; they will not refund you at all and you won't be able to put in a claim. (I hope this was helpful)

For sure if I have a balance in my Mercari account I put it in my bank as soon as possible!!! Then I pay with everything using my credit card even if I have a balance on the account. Thankfully Amex cares about their customers !!

So. It was marked delivered but it wasn't. These things do happen from time to time. You know.. like when the delivery person delivers it somewhere else or to the wrong address. It's not uncommon. That wasn't my problem. The problem was that the seller lied and blocked me as I showed after she got her money and had stated she would help me recover it as she was the only one who could with this type of post mailing that she used. So she's not to be trusted. She's a liar.

Yeh, I explained all of that in the video and answered the question to other comments. It does matter how shipped if the shipping service isn't delivering and I reported it the 1st day.
It goes both ways though, as a seller, when a buyer places an order and I start preparing it, then the buyer decides to cancel, and what do I do now with the handmade item that was being prepared for you. NOT nice or fair to the seller.
Where did I cancel? The seller shipped late and used an unreliable shipping service... Not understanding what you are trying to convey with your statement... and as a handmade seller; I would agree but this was not the case at all.

The seller could've put in a request to check for package like she said she was; but did not. That could've been the least she could do.

Can't chargeback if my card wasn't used to make the purchase. I used what I had available in Mercari which is why they were able to withhold from refunding me.

Your bank will get your money back. Just do a chargeback. There’s also another way…
My bank can not help me as I used the money that I had left over in Mercari. Therefore it is escrow-type. I’m using money I made from a previous sale.

Buyer
1. Before you buy something from a seller
Check they’re reviews to see if they are a good or bad seller
This shows if they are actual sellers and not scammers
And if they only have one item
Keep your eyes open this might be a scammer
2. When you buy something in Mercari
You have 3 days to inspect the item when you receive the item
So you have time to choose to keep or return the item
3.Always communicate with the seller
If you have questions
It’s good to ask them
Now for sellers
1. Always wrap your items with bubble wrap
no matter if it’s small or big
It’s always good since the item is way more protected
And the buyer will appreciate this
Ok so now this is something that you should be aware when buying or selling
Always have your phone ready to take a pictures before you ship and item so they buyer can’t say that you send the wrong item or a broken item
And you should also take screenshots of the conversation incase you need them, now if your item
comes broken
Take a photo and tell Mercari that your item arrived damaged and let know the seller know
Now if the seller start saying that is not his problem or that he can’t do nothing
That a red flag 🚩 because he is responsible as a seller because if the item was not protected that is the sellers fault
But if the seller says I will let Mercari know about the incident

I have been a seller for 14 years and a buyer for longer than that.
This seller was pretending to want to help me until Mercari let them keep their money; then the seller blocked me.

Did all the other reviews get their items? I saw she had 5 stars. I was thinking about getting some shoes 🥲 (from a different seller)
I’m not sure if they did or not. | You can still shop on Mercari because majority of the sellers send their items; as this one did as well; she just didn’t help when the package was mid-delivered which was sad because I wasn’t able to do it on my own since I wasn’t the shipper of this particular shipping method.
