That happened to me too but it was this seller: dkinc2020 she sells makeup. I wouldn’t buy from her. I was surprised I got scammed by her because she has 5 star ratings. After 2 weeks of my eyeshadow not getting delivered I contacted her. I told her it’s still at the post office. She said she went to the post office the next day & said it should be arriving to my place. I contacted her again & told her it’s still at the post office the tracking number showed that. It still didn’t come after a month. In our chat message she accidentally said she really wanted to keep the last one which was my order but she said she did ship it. Tracking shows it’s still at post office. She kept telling me it’ll come. After 2 months it’s still not here. I couldn’t contact Mercari since it was past the time to report her. I asked her for a refund & she said no. So this right here is why I use PayPal. I contacted PayPal about the incident & immediately they refunded me. I wanted to leave her a negative review so I told that it got delivered that was the only way I could get on Mercari because I couldn’t contact Mercari personally. She got upset that I gave her a 1 star & what I wrote on her wall my negative review. She still kept telling me it’ll get delivered. It’s still not here after 2 months. Wish Mercari had a number where u can call them personally. Glad PayPal refunded my money. That seller said it was only $5 that was just the makeup plus I had all the buyer fees too. Doesn’t matter how little amount it is you don’t scam someone!

This is why you don’t give a rating in order to report them. It’s a bad system that essentially allows bad actors because you almost have to say you received the item before you can get to the point where you can file a complaint. Sorry this happened but you need to be more careful with obviously suspiciously low priced items and also always reading the fine print; a literal warning window tells you that if you click this, the funds will be released to the seller.

Mercari seems to be okay if you are dealing with honest sellers. But the second you run into a problem where the item comes damaged due to shipping and not packaged properly they seem to make it very hard to prove your case. Almost like they're protecting the seller.

Mercari has screwed me with broken items i sent refunding buyer but no paying on insurance for not having enough packing that wasnt sent back with it in the return. Stuff like that

Did you report it right away? The problem is it showed as delivered they will release the funds you have to deal with fed ex mecari followed there guidlines

I think the same mercari is the scammer ( I think they create fake sellers) and they now the rules …they scammed me for almost 700 dollars machine embroidery ….fake machine ( no exist) plus PayPal doesn’t refund my money …. Mercari really knows how this works

A seller tried to be slick with a bundle of Beatles memorabilia after I even offered a free yellow submarine hot wheel if they bought the bundle for $40 they tried to swindle me down to everything for $35. I didn't hesitate to refund them their money and cancel the order and them. I don't need your scandalous money.

If that doesn't work. Contact your bank and do a chargeback. If they want to scam you. Tell the bank you want your money back. Problem solved!

That happened to me a month ago but I got my refund in credit.

It goes both ways though, as a seller, when a buyer places an order and I start preparing it, then the buyer decides to cancel, and what do I do now with the handmade item that was being prepared for you. NOT nice or fair to the seller.

i bought a ps5 for my son off of mercari . when we got it we couldnt register it because it came up as stolen. i had to go back and forth with mercari for days but i finally got my money back . the seller had blocked me aswell . ny advice is never rate the seller until you have it or accept it . Once you rate them they get the money .

Keep escalating the issues with mercari until you get a real human. The customer is AI unless you escalate. They will give your money back. I have also heard mercari on twitter (now X) is a good way to get customer service help as well.

IMPORTANT!!! I am a buyer and seller on mercari. The way to avoid this issue is to create a return for the item within 3 days of delivery. Select any of the valid return reasons then explain the situation. Screenshot the messages between the seller and yourself. You will get the refund and the seller can get the money from FedEx. You have to do this within 3 days of the delivery date. After the finds are released to the seller. There is absolutely nothing they can do to reimburse you because it’s considered going off platform and it would be breaking the terms of service which could get them banned from the platform. Please if anyone is in the situation they did not receive an item, and it has been marked as delivered, create a return.

I bought AirPods from Mercari when it arrived I found out they were fake I rated the seller 1 star and then I contacted Mercari and said the seller sold me fake AirPods I took a photo of it Mercari emailed me back and said they will look into it and to give them 48 hours so I then put a claim in with PayPal, PayPal contacted Mercari and the next morning Mercari refunded me, I think if I hadn’t involved PayPal they wouldn’t have refunded me
