In grade 6 we got to do an in class tear down of a working blackberry, then put it back together. We were taught what each part is, and I will be forever grateful for that experience as it was a big influence on me getting involved in tech.

    • @mrblob5413
      @mrblob5413 Před 5 lety +16

      @I know Cause I'm BatMan. It does not run 90% of the market -- it's more like 76%. However, if you look closely, this is because mostly third world countries who can't afford clean water generally prefer cheaper crappy Androids that run 3-5 year old software. If you look at English speaking countries, the market-share is more balanced (usually iOS winning a slight majority)-- poverty exists even in first world countries.

    • @mrblob5413
      @mrblob5413 Před 5 lety +24

      @I know Cause I'm BatMan. I'm a Software Developer and in IT for about 5 years before that. I have an iPhone because the multitude of benefits it has over the wild wild west Android (Speed, simplicity, eco-system, iMessage, iMessage, more re-sale value, updates right away, integration with mac/ipad/watch/TV etc, etc). It's not about being into tech or not. At some point in your life, you're going to grow out of wanting to "customize" your phone and download torrents off of wifi-hot spots. That's why majority of businesses also prefer iOS over Android. Either case, my work pays for my phone and they only offer iOS.

    • @mrblob5413
      @mrblob5413 Před 5 lety +6

      I know Cause I'm BatMan. That’s the budget model for poverty. So you admit it’s about price. I hear you. iMessage is way better than a third party solution. Sms fallback is key. You can copy files to iPhone easily.

  • @BillLambert
    @BillLambert Před 5 lety +6

    Blackberry killed Blackberry by being Blackberry. Their SDK was anemic and based on an ancient version of Java. It was a nightmare to develop for, unlike Android and iOS. Platform fragmentation meant you had to test your apps on a ton of devices because they all had different capabilities and form-factors, and the simulators were hilariously slow and buggy. Their communication services relied on proprietary servers and software which were plagued with reliability and security issues. RIM was a company with an identity crisis and inconsistent management.
    As much as I welcome choice and competition, the Blackberry is one platform I'm happy to watch die.
