- Ran into some fuel pressure issues after replacing several hoses. This caused low fuel pressure and may have contributed to the failure of injector #2? It turned out to be the diesel side suction hose clamp before the primary fuel filter. Hose clamp was loose and when I tightened it the clamp broke. Replaced the clamp, but could not recover injector #2.:( I pulled the 9G90's and replaced with the 7A77's. Runs like a dream again with no further fuel issues. I'll try and find time to dyno those injectors on my 3-53T.:)
I checked my master shop manual for 53 series -stated max injector size for turbo 4-53 to be 70 series 90 series even in warm weather tend to form wax in injector units according to Adrian on Australia east coast
Thanks, I'll have to read up on that.:)
Hey I think I saw you drive by my work the other day in the princess auto lot. Heard that engine immediately and laughed when I saw it was your ford. I'll try to wave next time, love your build.
Lol, yes I drove by to pick up my boat seats from Gordans Apholstery.:) Were you guys shoveling snow?
@@detroitgarage9430 every 15 minutes I had to go out and shovel again yes haha.
That quad pack could be the way to go. 4 predators in 1 assembly with separate turbos. Design it to run on 1,2,3 or all 4 engines. Should always have 1 running that way you can limp home. Later add a cab tune so that you hear that sweet detroit 4-53 in the cab and everyone else can hear the predator outside.
Lol.:)
I could also just put my 2-53 in it for the true sound of a 2-stroke.:) Or do a quad pack of 2-53's. Here's one I swapped recently.:) czcams.com/video/HQH5NYcSFnE/video.html
Too bad that went a little sideways. Remind me not to replace perfectly good injectors.
True.:) I'll revisit these down the road some after some dyno testing.:)
Those two strokes return a lot of warm fuel once at operating temperature but that veg also turns to Crisco in cold temps rather fast. The veg just probably isn't going to work when the temps dip too low unless you figure out some kind of tank heater.
True, I've been running veg with the 7A77's for the last two and half years.:) The first year was a single tank with a blend of veg/gas with mixed results. The last year and a half with a heated two tank system. The two tank system has been awesome and is dailed in with zero issues on the 7A77's. The 9G90's are a whole different breed of injector and likes 160-170f for the veg oil vs 140 for the 7A77's. I'll dyno the 9G90's and experiment with different temperatures on veg and see how they respond. The 7A77's don't seem to care if it's diesel or veg even when the engine is cold.:)
scoprions ftw!
Yeah, awesome band.:)
My guess is #2 is blowing compression back in to the fuel system to check the injector make a hose adapter to go over the nut on the injector to pressurize the tip of the injector and were the tip goes into the nut use about 40 psi to test and see if air comes out of the fuel fittings. I'm fond of alphabet soup injectors (abcdefg) there timing and tips can be problematic. To short out injectors it's easier to put the screw driver down on the body of injector and pry against the the jumper line fittings and push on the injector follower to hold the injector down. Another way to test is to start the engine and hold the rack in the idle position with one hand and push the finger on the rack to full throttle and see how much smoke that cyl makes if it' more than th😢e rest it will have broken or split tip and you can tell if that hole is dead also . Call me we can talk about injectors hope my information helps
Thanks Joe, I'll test that injector and see, give you a shout this weekend.:)
It’s like the cab needs to be fastened down with Velcro and snaps! Lol!
Lol, very true, maybe hydraulic cab lift on hinges.lol:)
There you go like an old cabover!@@detroitgarage9430
Lol, I was having a think on this while replacing the 9G90's.:)
Disappointing for sure. You'll figure it out.
Thanks, swapped them out for the 7A77's and runs like a dream.:)
What is the best injector up grade for a non turbo 4-53 ?
I'd have to say N45's, decent power @127HP and very little to no smoke.:) N50's are also another good choice @136HP.:)
In your opinion. What is the best pathway to make a non turbo 4-53 , a turbo 4-53 ?
Is there a rebuild kit you would recommend?
What’s the difference between the A series and the G series injectors?
I agree , would enjoy a video on the different spray patterns
The difference is the plunger and tip.:) The A 9A90 has an F9 P&B with a 9-0062 tip 85-91 cc/1000. The 9G90 was the last injector before DDEC that I'm aware of. The 9G90 has a 9G90 P&B with a different helix from the 9A90 and a 9-6 tip, producing 88-94 CC/1000. So it delivers a little more fuel.:) I'm going to try and dyno these different injectors on my 3-53T and see what HP&Torque they deliver. I'll be testing 9G90's, 9B90's, 9E85's and 9200's. The 9E85's might be the perfect injector.:) We'll see what the outcome is.:)
Thanks! I can't wait to see the results! Stay warm! @@detroitgarage9430
People have referenced some type of Detroit Diesel injector guide/ spec book…for the life of me I can’t find what they are talking about, can someone share a number or specific name for said injector bible! Thanks!
@@clayclifford53 I have several injector guides. What's your email and I'll send them to you. Do you have the field handbook? That's a great manual as well.:)
👍
So what was it did you get to greedy with the fuel or what
No, it was a loose clamp causing air to get into the fuel system. In turn caused fuel starvation and maybe led to the failure of injector #2.:) If I have time I'll dyno these 9G90's on my 3-53T.:)
First
Not fun when the injectors become constipated! Especially number 2's! ;)
Lol, that's a good one.:)
