This is the first time I ever saw Dennis' version of Name That Tune. Superb job as always. Dennis could have hosted a chess match and make it entertaining!
I used to live in Huntington, West Virginia. Home town of Peter Marshall, Soupy Sales, and Dagmar. In 1949 Dennis James helped launch the local NBC affiliate WSAZ.
Somewhat surprised to see the "live" (okay, live on tape) air freshener commercial! Didn't think that sort of thing was still happening as late as '74. Really digging all these Dennis James episodes!
If your dad was meticulous about keeping video evidence of his work, then there has to be at least one kinescope of another NBC game show with an equally short run, that being 1963's People Will Talk. Would like to see it if available.
@DennisJames I would like to request more nighttime Price Is Right episodes(James) which are originally aired with commercials on KNBC Channel 4 in 1976 and 77. Can you please post me a reply the minute you get this message via CZcams?
I haven't seen any Dennis James episodes of NTT since they first aired (yes, I am that old). Like everyone else, I assumed they had been taped over by NBC, as was the practice back then. Thanks for posting this from a long time NTT fan.
@@bradjames10 Hi Brad. I was on this show with your dad in 1974. Bill Ware on the 6th - 10th show in the first Daytime NTT series. Would you have a copy of it, and would it be possible to post it here? Thanks.
The daytime version of Name That Tune couldn't compete against The Joker's Wild which is why it lasted just 6 months. So in retaliation, NBC paid CBS back by scheduling Celebrity Sweepstakes in its place and The Joker's Wild went off 6 months later as well. It came back in 1977, but that didn't last long either as only 5 months of episodes were produced.
Too bad the daytime version didn't take hold, as it was a game that required some thinking ability. Dennis was one of two hosts that could do "Let's Make A Deal." Geoff Edwards said it was the toughest gig on TV. Real pros.
Now that CBS will be airing a few nighttime "Price is Right" and "Let's Make a Deal", I think "Name That Tune" would make a great trio as well. "Name That Tune" obviously can't be placed in CBS's daytime lineup because no slot is open for a new show. It would be nice is Fremantle is a part production of a future "Name That Tune".
@@brettbousman5070 Yes modern... too much drama...too little fun. Money Trees, a REAL wheel.. THAT'S FUN... Fox's Tune even over dramatized Bid A Note.

Because The Entertainer, popular in 1974, was played. And after watching the commercials during one of the breaks, I'd have to say this show was originally aired near the end of 1974.
This was late 1974. The syndicated nighttime version already started that fall. You can hear Dennis referring to Tom "having fun" with the money trees.
