Blaire’s hair looks practically brown next to Ariel! I’d like to see a custom Ariel with a more natural red wig like blaire’s or 61/103’s.
It really does! I will keep Ariel as is for a bit but she will eventually be customized. My daughters really love her but I just don’t like her hair.
Congratulations on getting Ariel, she looks just like she does in the movie!!! I know a lot of people were disappointed when they saw she had the Nanea mold, but I love it on her. I used to think the eyebrows make her look a bit mean but I've changed my mind, her face looks very sweet. Your Ariel also has the most beautiful bangs! Her wig texture looks so pretty and so fun to play with, reminds me of Belle's. I love the outfits you re-dressed her in the end, she looks really beautiful in the blue / teal dress, it complements her eyes and her hair. You always take the most beautiful photos of your dolls! I agree with you about the fabric and the outfit, she is more expensive than the normal dolls and some of the other 18 inch dolls have better quality outfits. She does also look very cartoony which is a bit strange, but I think she's still cute!
I think the eyebrows look mean at some angles, especially in the stock imagery. I don't think their stock images ever do them justice. She is definitely a cutie regardless of all of my complaints - but I am very much looking forward to customizing her!
Yes, for some reason, Ariel’s bright red hair looks fine on smaller Ariel dolls (like the one I adored as a child), but blown up to AG proportions, it’s like, WHOA 😂
I completely agree! Something about it doesn’t look quite right although I don’t mind it at all on smaller dolls now that you mention it.
Ariel is just gorgeous & unique like a movie star! I think she is just stunning & love her teal eyes & fiery red hair! Just can’t wait to get this one!
She does have that movie star glam! I do love how unique they made her and think there are a lot of people out there who will love to have her in their collection.

Thank you, Madison! I am so excited that they are new tones and I’m looking forward to seeing what they do with them. I kind of have a feeling that they will be mostly used for the new princess dolls rather than the standard lines. I feel like Cinderella’s super light tone was probably also made with Elsa or Snow White in mind.
Great review, thank you so much! I especially appreciate the color comparisons for eyes, hair, and skin. I confess I got Ariel almost immediately because I had been wanting a doll with red hair and green eyes. I adore her eye color and I love the Nanea face mold. I even love her hair color! but I agree this is the most "cartoony" of the three to my eyes and probably not for everyone.
Ariel's eyes drew me in big time.. such a gorgeous color! I'm still warming up to the hair color though.

I love Ariel, and I’m sorry that she didn’t live up to your expectations. You were right when you said that AG made her look cartoonish.

excellent review, as always! I'm not at all tempted by Ariel, but I know she will be a favorite among many others. It's still nice to see these dolls "up close" regardless of whether or not I will purchase one. I especially appreciate the skin tone comparisons! So, thank you very much for sharing! 💕💕

I LOVE this review and I’m taking your word for this doll! All I had to hear was “The Target Demographic” and decided that Ariel is not a good choice for my collection.
Yeah, she was certainly made for a certain type of child or collector and that’s totally fine. She is a gorgeous doll with striking features. unfortunately, I just don’t think I can get past the cartoony red hair, but luckily, that is an easy fix since I can re-wig easily.
Awe. I am sorry to see you are disappointed in Ariel. I am thrilled with mine. I love the outfit, wig, and eyebrows.
Ariel is definitely a beautiful doll and I know many will love her. I think I may have preferred the live action version of her because the cartoon look is probably what’s throwing me off. I feel like they did a better job at the rest of the princesses, as far as making them look like people, but Ariel’s bright red hair makes it a bit hard to do I think.
@@EvelynRoseAG American Girls have always looked very much more like dolls to me than like real people. Ariel is made to look like a cartoon character. She would not be Ariel without that red hair. I have the mermaid dolls from the live action movie. They are beautiful too. I find their faces more like real people than I do the AG dolls.

I got Tiana, Ariel and 128 for valentine’s day from my husband. I think Ariel is so pretty but I too am a little disappointed with the wig on the one I received (specifically the bangs). Once I find the time and energy I’ll have to style her and get them to look completely correct. It’s crazy how different her skin tone is compared to the other dolls. I love her unique eye color.
YAYY what an amazing present! I'm sorry the bangs on your doll aren't great. I've heard those are hit or miss. I'm sure a little time and effort will due wonders, or at least I hope.

This was wonderful. I'm so curious as to when AG is going to assign these 3 dolls their own skin tone number. I keep checking the skin tone filter on the AG site and they haven't added anything yet. I love that she has a unique eye color and I'm a huge teal fan. :) But I do agree that her hair color will stick out like a sore thumb in most collections. I already have a Nanea mold, so I'm not planning on getting her. But I do agree that she should sell very well, especially to little girls and to Ariel fans. Hmmm I am hesitant about her based on your review but my goodness she is so cute! She is my fav of these 3 because she's one of my fav princesses... I love some things about her and some, yea it's just a little miss. Something for me to think about later.
I LOVEEEEE the outfits you chose to put her in at the end. They are very reminiscent of her mermaid outfit and pink dress!
She's definitely cute, but doesn't exactly fit my collection the way I would want her to. And that's largely why I chose those outfits. I love them on her! I actually think I like the pink the best.
She’s absolutely gorgeous and in my opinion they did a fantastic job bringing these dolls to life from a cartoon. Her hair is perfect! If she had a different red shade she would not match Ariel at all.
Everything about Ariel to me is just perfect. I highly recommend her.

I think you're right! I was very worried about it but she's certainly a beautiful one. Definitely better than the one used for stock photos!
I’m not a big Ariel fan, maybe because she came out when I was in college. There was a huge scandal about the art in her VGS take box.
Her hair color really bothers me. Even getting past Ariel, as a doll, she just isn’t for me.

That makes sense, because I think a large part of the Ariel appeal to adult collectors is the nostalgia. I just googled the scandal and OOH boy LOL. I'm with you on the hair color. As I mentioned, she kind of sticks out like a sore thumb. My plan will be to customize her and keep some of her original personality but give her more toned down features.
And my Nanea.. I may be biased but she is the most beautiful Nanea I've seen. I did swap her eyes for brown which made me love her even more.
She’s a pretty doll but I agree with you about her not exactly reading as an American Girl doll… she looks more similar to other dolls created by disney at first glance which is a bit of a shame

It's funny, Ariel is my favorite princess and I love her in almost all forms, but this doll just doesn't do it for me. I agree that she was really made for the kiddos. What a shame about the shedding glitter!! I hate that we're still dealing with glitter in 2024 when we've clearly got the technology to seal it in. I agree too that it's odd for Ariel to have Ursula's shell necklace, especially since it breaking at the end of the movie is what gave Ariel her voice back. I guess they just wanted all the dolls to have a necklace? Anyways, thanks for the review! (Im)patiently waiting for 125 😉😉😉

Ariel is one of my favorites too, but yes... the crossover into AG doll doesn't work as well as the live action version would have, that's for sure. I hope your 125 arrives soon.. she's so gorgeous!
