    I want to thank you for what you said regarding this new hair texture. If Evette had brown eyes and black hair, she would have been my mini me. It was quite discouraging to constantly hear people talk about Evette's hair pattern as being "hard to manage" over and over again. My grandmother used to have my hair straightened/relaxed even as a young girl because it made it "easier to manage." But I know deep down she just didn't know how to take care of it in it's natural state. I didn't learn how to take care of it until I was an adult. I don't say this for pity points or sympathy. But after continuously seeing people constantly chanting this reasoning for why they didn't want Evette, it started to wear on me.
    I acknowledge that this is a doll with a wig, not human hair. AG could have found a formula or material to make it easier to style or they should have gone into more detail on how to care and style it. But all the same, it's a curly wig. It still needs a targeted kind of care than straight wigs. It reminds me of the fact that a whole panel of people were chosen to painstakingly design Addy and her having texture hair was one of those details. I'm very glad AG has introduced this hair texture as it's a welcome breath of fresh air. But if people are going to automatically not buy them because of that...I do wonder whether or not they will decide to discontinue it. I'm actually pretty shocked they released this doll after so many people complained of Evette's hair. But either way I just wanted to thank you for acknowledging it.

      Thank you so much for sharing your perspective, and I’m so sorry you have ever been made to feel that way, and that you weren’t taught to care for your hair as a child. You’re not alone in having felt worn down by these comments people have been making. I’ve seen several people express that same sentiment which is why I felt the need to say something. I hope you’ve also been seeing all the love we have for Evette and 127’s wigs and know that you and your hair are beautiful.

      @@EvelynRoseAG I'm fine. Initially I was only marginally annoyed but I kept seeing it and it was tiring. At the very least I'm glad that we now have this new wig (really hoping that it gets offered in the CYO line so I can make a mini me.) It's frustrating that AG hasn't released a 20/25 skintone doll with dark curly hair and brown eyes yet. As you mentioned, giving darker dolls these lighter eye colors, while not genetically impossible, is not common amongst the Black population (and I'd dare so the majority of the world) and I don't understand why its something they keep doing. Anyway, I hope to see that in the future as well.

    • @kelseypeterson5172
      @kelseypeterson5172 Před 5 měsíci +3

      I would love to see this wig in the CYO line too. I absolutely love curly hair on dolls of all kinds and have been building up quite a diverse doll hair collection. I wish more people would take the time to learn how to take care of different hair types because they're all beautiful. It's a problem with the disney Merida doll's too, they only give her big fancy curls and not her wild and natural curls from the movie. I had to recurl my Merida doll's hair myself to have her hair the right way. It's definitely something I wish was more prevalent in doll lines, having multiple different hair types.

    • @EvelynRoseAG
      @EvelynRoseAG  Před 5 měsíci +2

      Yes! Dark curly hair, medium skin, and brown eyes is a common combination that I don’t see represented nearly enough. Truly me 108 has curly hair but not tight curls/coils. If they added this wig to the CYO line it would open up the possibility of so many gorgeous combos.

    • @EvelynRoseAG
      @EvelynRoseAG  Před 5 měsíci +2

      You’re so right about that! I wonder if AG will eventually release a Merida doll in the core Disney line, and if so, if they will get her hair right. I know that ultimately these are toys made for kids, but there are many children out there with these hair types that would love to have a doll with hair just like them.

    Thank you for sharing! She is gorgeous. I'm buying her this month, now that my rewards have come, and am so excited. I appreciate what you said about her hair. All the people who hate on Evette and 127 in particular because of their hair really upset me; a lot of time the comments come across as microaggressions, too. I'm so, so grateful that AG has FINALLY started exploring new hair types and textures (there is a reason 112 was the first TM I ever bought!), and I want more people to lean into celebrating that, too. Forest is so beautiful, and makes me even more excited to add mine (her name will be Zahra) this month. Hope you get to feeling better soon; the perpetual winter illness is the WORST.

    oooh, she's beautiful, Evelyn! She's definitely on my list. Congratulations on getting Forest. Love her name!
    Thank you for those comparisons, really helpful!
    I appreciate what you said about the hair texture. I fell in love with Evette primarily because of her hair along with her eye color and freckles. In fact, I love her so much I purchased a second one when AG had her on sale for $65. I also have an Evette wig that I want to put on a classic mold. I myself am brunette and have dark brown eyes and have always wished I had lighter eyes. My daughter has very dark brown hair and light grey eyes, which I find such a striking combination. My oldest son has sandy blonde hair and "milk chocolate" brown eyes, the next son has hazel eyes with very curly dark brown, almost black hair, and the youngest boy has light brown hair with green eyes. My husband has jet black hair and hazel eyes. It's interesting the way genetics works, isn't it?
    I was always glad that none of my kids had inherited my "boring" brown eyes, and that's probably why I love 127 with the eyes she has now! 😊😊

    • @EvelynRoseAG
      @EvelynRoseAG  Před 5 měsíci +2

      Thank you so much! Genetics are super interesting, and your children sound like they have such beautiful feature combinations. I have sandy blonde hair and green/blue eyes, and my husband has brown hair and deep brown eyes. One kid has my sandy blonde hair and her dad’s deep brown eyes, and the other has pale blonde hair with my eyes. Dark brown eyes are my absolute favorite and one of the features I love most about my husband. They are so deep and comforting. I’m sure your eyes are beautiful and I hope one day you’ll find the beauty in them, because it’s there for you to find ❤️

    Excellent video! It was very interesting to see the dolls compared together. 127 is very beautiful. I like the new hazel eye color a lot. I love her hair and how you tried some styles on her. I agree with your thoughts on textured curly hair. Many of us have this type of hair and it can be more challenging to style and look after but its natural beauty is worth it. 😊

    Forest is so pretty! I really love her name. It matches her green eyes really well which are so pretty and match her skin tone really well. I would definitely get her, but I made a goal of getting only 1 doll in 2024 which was supposed to be GOTY 2025, but I already got 3 - oops. I will probably get her next year though. And about her hair - I can see what you're saying with the "I don't want to learn to take care of it because it's too hard" approach. As a person with curly/wavy hair similar to her I can say it's a bit different. On dolls like Evette and 127 it's crimped together, and once the pieces or curls separate you can't bond them back together unless you re-set it using boiling water. On humans you can easily fix it with a bit of product but it won't do much for the hair on dolls. (I tried it on Evette just because I was really desperate to fix her hair and it didn't help much) However, your dolls hair looks beautiful even after you had it in 2 braids. Do you have a certain method to taking care of it? Maybe there is a way to keep it looking nice. Beautiful doll, congratulations!

    • @EvelynRoseAG
      @EvelynRoseAG  Před 5 měsíci +4

      Thank you! I think Evette’s wig definitely had a design flaw, and I’m not sure that they ever fixed it. 127’s seems like a new and improved version and I’m happy to see it. So far I’ve been able to get it back with just water and a pick. Still, I’m glad they are listening and adding more hair types to represent a diverse population.

    I love this doll and it's been so hard keeping to my rule of not so many dolls this year haha. I did used to have that way of thinking and as a younger child I had no idea how harmful it was to people in real life. As I've grown up I've learned and getting Evette really helped me understand that her hair texture is not hard to take care of, you just have to approach it differently.

    I’m excited to add 127 to my collection. She has my hair texture and almost my hair color (I have red highlights). I find this kind of hair challenging in a human. As the above poster stated, once you separate the curls, they don’t go back together and just frizz. I can get mine to realign by washing and conditioning and putting in a curl cream. That’s harder to do with a doll.
    I have Evette and I haven’t done much with her hair as everytime I changed her, I kept getting more frizz and more hair volume. I’m hoping 127’s wig has been improved. Your Forests in the braids is super cute.

    She's absolutely beautiful! Congratulations! I love this girl and want to get her and evette and make them twins😊 their hair is really the main thing that's drawn me to them, i absolutely love it! I completely agree with you on people saying evette's hair is difficult to care for and that it really sounds like they just dont want to learn. I had heard the same things about Addy's hair at first too which worried me as I've always loved addy and wanted her, but hearing people say her hair was difficult to take care of scared me. After finally getting my own addy i can confidently say that her hair isn't difficult to take care of at all, just different than how you'd take care of samantha, felicity or kit. So i have no fears of evette's or 127's being difficult to handle, just different. I absolutely love the way your forest looked in those braids, and if i ever get evette and 127 I'll definitely have to try that on them. I'll probably end up doing alot of the same hairstyles on them that i do to addy😂

    • @kelseypeterson5172
      @kelseypeterson5172 Před 5 měsíci +1

      @@EvelynRoseAG oh yes water definitely is needed. That's another thing is that so many people don't realize that water is really your best friend when dealing with American Girl doll hair. It helps keep the frizzy bits from happening and especially with addy it helps keep her hair tame. I don't even use a brush on addy at all, just my fingers. And occasionally I use a braid spray from the black hair care section of Walmart, not just on addy, but all of them as it's meant for wigs and hair extensions, so it helps keep their hair moisturized and soft. So evette and her twin will definitely be taken well care of whenever I manage to add them to my collection 😂

In the meantime, I would recommend checking out the Doll Studio By Kris' channel, as he is a hair stylist who has worked at the doll hair salon and he has plenty of amazing videos on the topic.

    I don’t get what people mean when they talk about caring for this hair… I never do anything to Evette’s wig other than spray w water and finger brush and it looks great! You don’t have to do any special “care”

      Yes, HEAVY on the water does the trick. Evette’s curls don’t do well once separated but don’t use a standard brush and be careful with styles and that will help a lot. Several other commenters have pointed out the special care involved for real curls is difficult to to on dolls, which makes sense, but I don’t think they’ll ever be able to get the hair just right without making it washable.

    Great video! Thanks for doing all these comparisons for us. I will echo what some other comments have mentioned that doll hair is not like human hair. People can wet their hair from root to tip. People can also use hair products. You can’t do that on a doll. Also doll hair synthetic and behaves differently than human hair. I hope AG has improved the quality of their doll hair. Some AG wigs I have even just wavy ones are so difficult to keep together without frizz.

      Thank you! That’s very true, and I believe Evette’s wig could have been done much better. However, adult collectors all over AGIG and CZcams express the sentiment that curls in general (Caroline, Evette, 125,127) are “difficult” and their reason for not purchasing a doll. As someone who owns 60+ dolls with all hair types, my experience has shown me that a bit of time, effort, and a LOT of water yields great results. I’ve also seen people with curly hair discuss how these comments hurt them. Due to my nature, I will always stand up for people, and felt the need to say something.

    Adult collectors shouldn’t have a problem with any wig type. The main worry is handing this doll to a child and not knowing how long her hair will stay neat and manageable. Like another poster commented, synthetic hair isn’t like real hair that can be wetted and washed and have products added on a semi daily basis. My niece has Evette hair and she has to wash every time she wants to brush it out. So she often wore it in braids for a couple of days. For a kid who wants to play style the hair, it simply would be too much wear on the wig to stay nice for very long. My daughter just got a 122 and the super straight hair was tangling so much easier than her other dolls (she’s a teen, so it’s not being a kid who doesn’t know how to treat doll hair). It’s not hurtful to discuss the pros and cons of wig textures and styles. It would be hurtful to call names, but I don’t see that happening- on the contrary comments have usually been how beautiful it is. I would love to know if the wig is actually brushable. It looks like you could spritz it and brush and the curls would reform, but no one is holding a demonstration. All of the “taking care of Evette’s wig” tutorials are “just leave it alone”.

      Yes - adult collectors absolutely, and that is who I’m referring to in the video. I’m a mom of two and make sure to give my young children dolls with short, flat hair to play with for that reason. My oldest has recently shown a lot of interest in hair styling and has done a great job with the curly wigs. I agree that pros and cons are completely fine to discuss, and I think calling out the fact that AG could have done a much better job with Evette’s wig is important. I’m specifically referring to people online referring to dolls with curly hair (eg: Caroline, 125, 127, Courtney) as having “difficult” hair, and specifically calling that out as a reason they wouldn’t purchase a doll. I’m on AGIG quite a lot, and I’m very active over there, following nearly 1,000 people and watching their stories. I have seen the discourse I’m referring to over and over again, and have also seen many folks express that as curly haired individuals, those comments are hurtful to them. I’m not one to see people hurt and not stand up for them.
      As far as 127’s hair, I should have included it in here, but I have tested brushing it with a dry brush (it just gets frizzy), and then tested wetting it and using a pick, which works a lot better. For styling I just try to keep the curls in their original sections so I don’t separate them.

    I actually have this hair type, and it’s difficult to care for.
    I don’t want to have a difficult time taking care of a doll’s hair just because my own hair is difficult to care for. To me your video reads as shaming me (and other people) because I prefer dolls with hair that’s easier to care for, and I don’t appreciate you doing that one bit. You shouldn’t be white-knighting if you don’t have this hair type.
    I’m not going to watch the rest of this BS video nor will I remain subscribed. Stick to your lane when it comes to hair and don’t talk for other people.

      That’s your prerogative, however, you can also read the perspective of other commenters with your hair type that feel differently. THAT is who I am “speaking for”. I will always stick up for people when I can, and my intention was that, not to shame anyone. I may not have this hair type but my mother, brother, and many of my friends do. I grew up with my mom hating her own hair. It was a near daily expression from her. I understand your feelings and choice to leave the channel, but this comment reads to me as easily offended, and I won’t ever stop standing up for what I believe in, especially for the sake of white fragility.
