I was 13ish in 1999 and had a lot of their stuff in my room. The blow up chair and alien stuff give me so much nostalgia!
I think it's cute but I also have my expectations of AG quality and know I wouldn't be happy with the price.
I want the blow up chair, too! I wanted one as a child but my mom never got one for me. Maybe I just get an adult sized one now? 😉

Ah as always you unbox something and make me want it! I didn't know about all the details but I do agree a lot of it looks cheap. I wish the price point was less!
Ooops lol. The set is really cute! I wouldn’t recommend spending the fill $145 for it though. You’ll definitely feel ripped off.
Thanks for giving a nice overview of the new computer set! It's really interesting - I bought the 90s computer set from the AGOT era, because I always coveted it as a child, and I was surprised that the desk for that set is really cheap, terrible plastic; it does the job, but it's super lightweight. The chair, however, is quite nice and heavy. It's fun to contrast that to your experience with a decent desk and a flimsy chair for the new set. I really love the floppies that come with this set; I can't say I miss floppies, since we always bought cheap ones and they would end up getting corrupted every five or six months and I'd lose everything (an experience I haven't had yet with a flash drive), but the vibes of them were immaculate and are super nostalgic.
Thank you ! And wow, how interesting!! I haven't ever seen that set in person, and I truly wouldn't have guessed that the desk is plastic. Wow! Thank you for sharing. I don't *miss* floppy discs either, but I loved having my little case of them that had various files stored. They even had a particular smell.
Sorry you're sick. I'm a few years older than you, so the set is really nostalgic for me, too. I had glow in the dark stars on my ceiling, too, and aliens were a huge thing. I'm between Courtney's age and the Hoffman twins, so both sets are super nostalgic for me, but I'm closer in age to the Hoffman twins. It's a shame that the quality has gone down so much. I agree that it has, and it's disappointing, especially because AG still charges such high prices for most things. I do think a lot about the computer set is spot on, the floppies and cds, and the portable phone are exactly late 90's/early 2000's. And the dial up sound is classic. I was just a little too old for the ag website, but I did spend a ton of time on the computer around that time. I do wish AG still put things out with the same quality that they used to, and that their attention to detail was more consistent, as opposed to for a few sporadic things. Thanks for doing the review.
Thank you! I do wish that AG would find a better balance between getting the profits they need to stay afloat, and providing the quality that the brand is known for. I do love the nostalgic pieces they have been putting out (even if if makes some of us feel “old”) and don’t dislike every decision they’ve been making, but it’s certainly not how I would prefer they run things.
@@EvelynRoseAG I agree. Lol, the newer sets have definitely been making me feel old -- I'm not sure I'm quite ready to be "historical" yet. But it's also so much fun for the memories.

Those dial-up modem sounds! SO nostalgic and fun. I love the concept of the computer in this set, but I'm with you. I so wish the materials were better and that modern AG still cared about making true miniature replicas. It's so annoying to KNOW you're dishing out more money than an item is worth, all just for a name brand 😑 If my daughter ever wants 18-inch doll playsets, we'll be leaning into Our Generation, for sure.
... but I might have to get Nicki & Isabel's computer anyway, for that modem lullaby, hahahahah 😂
Yes! The computer absolutely made the set worth it to me, thankfully. And I do love that the desk is pretty basic and could be used in a different way. But my goodness, I miss the old quality.
The computer itself is really cool, I also like the alien mug 👽 I would love to own this set even though it’s a little cheaper then us collectors would prefer 😅
It’s a great set to own.. I just can’t get past the price point. The computer is definitely my favorite part!

Of course! I’m not always disappointed with AG items but it’s definitely becoming a much more frequent occurrence.
Still deciding if I want this set. Right now I am using the World by Us table for the twins in their bedroom and it’s really cute and has 2 chairs

Such a shame that american girl's quality has decreased so much. The desk looks like something from IKEA, but I could buy a full sized IKEA desk for about the same price! 😂
I remember as a kid how impressed I was with American Girl's quality and the materials they used. Items were substantial and were miniatures of real things.
I did love the dial up sounds from the computer though... I'm pretty sure my brain still makes those noises when I'm trying to calculate my doll budget 😉😂

That’s a great point - the desk DOES look like it came from IKEA. Even the chair does honestly 😂 and it would absolutely be the same price as this one. And that dial up tone absolutely lives rent free in my head too 😂
Bummer that it still felt like you overpaid for this set. Glad that there are enough nostalgic elements within the set to almost make it worth it. I don't know what the alien obsession was either, but I do know that in 1989 I did my senior paper on alien abductions. :) I would paint the room the same color as the phone since you love that phone so much. :) Thanks for sharing all of the details! Love the sound of the dial-up internet connection. :) But I'm so glad we don't have to do that anymore. :)

I honestly had a feeling this set would feel cheap:( I wasn't old enough to have the old AG computer(the one that looks like this)but I could tell by pictures the quality of that one was nice and this one is cheap. AG is so disappointing now and cheap...
You’re right - the old one does look so much better. I wish I could go back and order from old catalogs!!
So Mattel to pump out poor quality items at high price tags. Shame on Mattel!!!
