To this day, I heard music from all the sims games, but the one that takes the crown is the sims 2 build/buy and CAS. Needless to say, everytime I hear it I point it out and specify which sims game it is if people are with me.

It always was very interesting to me how many celebrity songs The Sims 2 and The Sims 3 feature and how much less the Sims 4 has. Sure there are some songs but nowhere near as popular as Hot and Cold or Smile were back in the day.
actually 4 has alot of real bands singing songs, just like 2 & 3. They just don't need to singer/band name to help market the game anymore after so long.

I'm not sure if somebody has mentioned it but, actually, one of the songs in sims 3 is from the show Desperate Housewives, from Jablonsky. Desperate Housewives started in 2004 and Sims 3 in 2009, it was reused probably as a reference or he thought it was amusing since I recall both songs have the same context.
As a german i can confirm that this reaches even here, as some of the privately owned channels like RTL, Vox, or Kabel Eins use Sims 3 music as background music.
I was watching the Loki series on Disney. I was watching the scene where the time agents were chasing the Female Loki character running through a Ren Faire event. I just about did a spit take when I heard the background tune from Sims Medieval!! So Im not crazy....

Keep in mind that just because a show used music, it doesn’t always mean they paid for it but rather hope you don’t look into if they were allowed to. America’s Got Talent for example has used artists’ music and not cleared it a few times. I had assumed the most reoccurring tracks had simply become public domain. The Sims Medieval is used a ton.

As someone who has previously received a copyright claim due to using music from The Sims 3 soundtrack, I have some additional insight into the situation: the copyright claim I received was from a company called "Extreme Music", and upon looking up the titles they listed (which where different then the one's they where listed under in the OST) on their website I can confirm that their claim seems to be legit. this means that at some point, Extreme Music acquired the rights to these songs either from Jablonsky himself or from EA. my theory has always been that EA for whatever reason, opted to buy a license to use pre-existing songs from Extreme Music rather than having them composed specifically for the game like they had done with previous titles, hence why only The Sims 3 seems to get a copyright claim for the background music (radio music is a different situation entirely) while 1, 2, and 4 seem to be fine.
I think the tracks were genuinely composed by Steve Jablonsky specifically for The Sims 3 but EA later sold the rights to the music to Extreme Music (whom retitled them). A lot of the Extreme Music CDs featuring Jablonsky's Sims 3 tracks are moderately to very new (I believe one, "Family Comedy 2", was actually only released this year), and I know at one point around 2007/2008 EA themselves actually had their own music library consisting of 18 CDs which made music from a handful of their games licensable at the time, one of which was "THE SIMS - Jazz Lounge" (catalog # EA-006), so there's definitely a precedent for them licensing out their own in-house produced music.

This was an awesome topic! I too have caught a lot of The Sims 3 background music on TV and commercials. I personally enjoy certain Simlish songs, most recently the Simlish version of Japanese Breakfast's "Be Sweet" for the Cottage Living pack. Additionally, the songs waaay back in The Sims 2 console version were awesome too, especially the pop/punk pop station.
I made a Simlish karaoke video of Be Sweet by Japanese Breakfast on my channel if you are interested. So you can sing along with the Simlish lyrics. :3 But yea I love Simlish songs so much. In Spanish tv, Sims medieval music was used on a tv add and it was causing me a lot of confusion cause I couldn't tell where I had heard that music before until I realized it was the sims medieval theme song purely because someone pointed that out, ON TWITTER. The Sims 2 music was composed by Devo's Mark Mothersbaugh, alongside members of his production company, Mutato Musika. Their tracks are used in commercials and games, so it wouldn't be surprising if you could hear some of their music somewhere, like on a Breaking Bad blooper reel. Also, if Steve Jablonski was still a member of Remote Control by the time he did music for the Sims 3, the company could be the ones who owned the tracks.

As an Australian I have heard the sims 3 build mode songs on a tv show called ‘The Block’ which is a reality tv show where multiple couples compete to renovate run-down houses and then sell them for the biggest profit. I've heard Sims music both in tv news articles on national tv and in kids shows on the public broadcast channel, and I live in neither the US nor Europe, so it does seem like a big distribution deal that goes far beyond first world countries.

So, here in Norway. A lot of the music from The sims 2 and 3 have been used tons in commercials and tv and i always got so surprised when i heard it living at home. My parents NEVER believed me xD

A Sims 1 Vacation song can be heard in one of the episodes of Brooklyn Nine-Nine (S3, E13), which is a very popular show. I remember hearing Sims music in other shows before but I don't remember them specifically.
i remember playing sims2 on ps2 and hearing a song on the radio and i just fell in love with it lol. come to find out, about 5 years later, it was a real song (Pressure by Paramore) and it made me love sims even more! And I'm definitely guilty of watching soooo many sims 2 music videos in middle school lmao. A throwback! Thank you for this video!
In Spanish tv, Sims medieval music was used on a tv add and it was causing me a lot of confusion cause I couldn't tell where I had heard that music before until I realized it was the sims medieval theme song purely because someone pointed that out, ON TWITTER. Next time I saw the add I couldn't believe my ears. Funny thing is that it was an ONCE add, Wich basically means Nacional Organization of the Spanish Blinds. I immediately told my mum, I was super happy, and shocked and , proud??? 😂😂
There was also an advert for El Corte Inglés' Christmas catalogue like YEARS ago that used a build mode song from TS3! It feels super weird!

I remember I was binge watching CSI:NY and I was on an episode where one of the CSI crew is stuck in a panic room and evidence was decaying. So he started to grab what he could to preserve the evidence and all of a sudden the Sims 2 build a mode music played while he was doing science stuff.

the domestic racoon documentary is ironic considering you can befriend then adopt the racoon that rummages through your garbage in Sims 3, the main Sims game which people seem to also find its music in other media xD

The Sims 2 music was composed by Devo's Mark Mothersbaugh, alongside members of his production company, Mutato Musika. Their tracks are used in commercials and games, so it wouldn't be surprising if you could hear some of their music somewhere, like on a Breaking Bad blooper reel.
Also, if Steve Jablonski was still a member of Remote Control by the time he did music for the Sims 3, the company could be the ones who owned the tracks.

Also, by the time Sims 2 was in development, the Sims 1 expansion packs started using library music, for Superstar and Making Magic in particular. So that wouldn't be surprising either.
Without fail, I am always surprised and taken out of whatever I'm watching when I hear the TS3 music blaring in the background. I have heard the Sims 3' music predominantly on the Food Network and HGTV, and it's always one of the build mode tracks.
As an Australian I have heard the sims 3 build mode songs on a tv show called ‘The Block’ which is a reality tv show where multiple couples compete to renovate run-down houses and then sell them for the biggest profit. It’s probably the biggest show in Australia when it airs every year and everytime I hear The Sims songs it’s so strange!
