Thank you so much for watching, sharing, and purchasing. It allows us to keep moving forward! - Hry
Us color blind people really really appreciate the green to blue change! We are not thought about much. Thank you!
A question I haven't seen answered yet (probably wrong) is are the upgrade cards coming in the conversion kits ALL that is going to be relevant? Or will we have to buy other conversion kits & ships to run the "optimal" load out on a ship, or at least have all options?
From what we have heard, They recognized that was a huge problem with 1.0 and will not repeat it. The conversion kits will contain all upgrades and pilot cards for their designated ships.
A game company actually changed something for colour blind people. I might just get back into x wing simply to support this
Will I have to buy the X-Wing 2.0 expansion pack to get the one or two new Pilot Cards that seem to be in there?? For Example "Thane Kyrell" is in the X-Wing expansion pack. Do I have to spend $20 just to have 1 pilot??
2.0 ticks every box of what I wanted. I've been playing other games for about a year and a half. I'm so excited to come back and play some x-wing without the upgrade bloat. So hype.
So are we! What part did you enjoy the most?
I'm so overloaded with all the good ideas, Changing how turrets work is likely my #1 because I never felt like they felt like x-wing. Too many turrets lost that dog fight feel that is important to me. The FAQ lists the conversion kit allows for 3 decimators... so I'm also just hoping that's not a typo because seeing 3 decimators on a table is too funny to me. like.... WHAT.
Me too! I jumped into Runewars because a) I needed a break from Star Wars overload, and b) X-wing simply wasn't fun any more. I'm glad I got to try a different system, but it will be so nice to hop back in the cockpit again!
My favorite part has to be that many of these cards and counter-cards have been fixed, eg. turret dominance and the Autothrusters counter; the clunkiness of Extra Munitions; all those cards that came out to patch older out-paced ships. Yeah, I can't wait to get my hands on 2.0!
I’m excited but I haven’t started the game yet so I guess I’ll wait till x wing 2 is out to start
Just hoping we get all the cool ships from the previous edition
The one question I haven't seen answered is can the app replace the need to have a physical card rep for every upgrade? Can we just use the app and the main ship cards?
Great question, from our conversations with the designers we gather that the App is only referenced while squad building, with updates being pushed out no less than a month at a time, barring hotfixes. We are confident that the app is not required while playing the game.
I am only slightly colorblind so I just looked for the "yellow maneuvers" vs the brown and white ones on the old dials. Nice quality of life improvement.
So i started playing, only had a few ships. So i have to pay 50 bucks to upgrade 3 imperial ships, then the 1 rebel ship that i have. Then, how does upgrading my 2 FO ships and 1 resistance ship work if there are no 50 dollar conversion kits for those 2 factions
Does the conversion kit factor in multiple copies of ships? So many of the builds included a few copies of the same ship.
Yes, the kits convert multiple of the same ship. Check our blog for more info: teamcovenant.com/learning/star-wars-x-wing/everything-need-know-x-wing-second-edition-x2-reboot
I have a problem with the app only access to pilot cost and abilities etc, what happens if in 10 years, ffg doesn't support xwing anymore and I still want to play with my old xwing set with friends? I think they are leaning way too hard into the competitive side of xwing and completely forgetting us casual players.
ok, I posted that before the end of the video. I really like the idea of the quick builds with the ships. that's actually really awesome. I like casually playing with some friends. but I have all the ships. They don't have much intrest in list building. so I end up building a bunch up lists and letting them choose. having them just grab ships they like and use quick builds is a fantastic idea. I retract my previous statement.
It really does sound like a great idea! We are excited to look at ways to implement it in our storefront, especially, like you said, with casual or new players!
Yeah, this was my one real cause for concern as well (i.e. what happens in ten or twenty years of FFG no longer has the license, or an iOS update inevitably renders the app inoperable), but quick builds do really go a long way toward fixing that for casual players (of which I am one). I’m really genuinely excited about this!
will i be able to download the current instance of the app to be able to build lists while im camping out in the middle of nowhere with my buddies for a week?
We don't know either way on this right now. We will try and ascertain as more information releases.
Update on this, yes you will. FFG will have all the data available as a printable PDF. You are all set to camp and squad-build!
wow, thanks for the followup! with this news i have no qualms with 2.0. im excited for The Rebalancing
say an A wing is released again, will there be different options in the A wing pack contrary to just converting an A wing using a conversion kit?
We are trying to ascertain this as well. You will know when we do!
Team Covenant thanks guys! Your all doing a great job, Hope to see you on the table top one day!
Was it clearly stated that the eventual brand-new material for the game (new ships, etc.) will be 2.0-only? Or will 1.0 components continue to be offered; as hybrid products maybe like they're doing for the upcoming Wave?
We get the sense that all of the new releases will be Second Edition only. Saw's Renegades and TIE Reaper are hybrid releases just given that they are in between First and Second Edition.
That's what I thought(hoped), thanks!
I can understand how the app will allow for more responsiveness towards he competitive play. How ffg prevent constant release schedule from making the game overwhelming to new player especially when the new edition starts off with all the old ships?
How many of the previous upgrade cards will be usable with 2.0?
So I have a question, I never bought a Raider so I don't have a palpatine. If I buy an imperial conversion kit, would it include the 2.0 version of palpatine?
Zach Greenwalt The Epic ships are not included in the Conversion kits.
The faction conversion kits will have the updated of all existing content, from what I understand. It will be the 2.0 version of Palpatine, but it should be included.
Will be getting starter and scum conversion first. See how I can make the quadjumper work in 2.0
What is that play mat/surface they're using? And the turrets? They never mention them? Are they all just custom sculpts? Is 2nd edition going to include more in the way of terrain/sets/obstacles? I see the trench featuring heavily on all the marketing, would be a shame not to eventually release an official product along these lines.
So here's the question I have: will the ships from the original movies (and especially the original X-wing) be viable again? I'm an old man and I kind of lost interest a couple years ago because I just wasn't interested in the new ships coming out. I want to fill the sky with T-65s and A-wings again.
PrezPendejo really bugs me that T-65 X-Wings aren't viable even though the damn game is called X-Wing. Honestly they should have named it Star Wars Squadron or something.
That is the idea as we understand it. One of the big reasons for 2E is exactly what you mention. Because point costs and upgrade slots can be adjusted on the fly, the goal is to keep every ship viable so you can play the squad that you want.
I always felt that the greatest strength and weakness of the game were the cards. Having it all updated on an app is... just not the same as having a physical set of rules in your hand but it makes a lot of sense and is still a huge step up from constantly having to buy new rule books a la every other major tabletop game or being stuck with the increasingly clunky (or obsolete/underpowered) rules set out in cards that can't be changed. Paying for this conversion pack may be expensive but I agree this game had outgrown the system it was built in and I much prefer that to having to buy all-new figures. And if the app system can make future updates freely available hopefully we'll only have to do this once.
One of the key things to know is that all of the physical components are still there. The only difference is that they no longer have point costs on them, so the app only comes out when building a list. Everything else is the same.
Ah I misunderstood that. Thanks.
What's the deal with upgrade cards? Will they be available on the app to view? or will I need to purchase ships I already own just to get them?
Upgrade cards are included in the conversion kits, and then every Second Edition release will include Upgrade cards as usual. The app just deals in the point costs of those components during list building.
If they don't update it, everyone's a critic. When they update it, everyone's a critic. Really, with the hours I and the people I play with spend on this game, a few hundred bucks over the course of the year isn't that much. Way cheaper than going to the bar or the movies and I have cool looking toys to play with at the end of the day.
Now where can I get that Death Star play mat?
wink0083 5 faction conversion kits at $50 a piece, plus the core game. That's heading for $300 and doesn't account for multiple ships. At the end you essentially have the same game bar a few minor rule changes.
iamallthatiscomedy bwahahahahaha!
iamallthatiscomedy they will. I predict two "most wanted" style expansions for both factions next year. This will tie up with episode 9 and wave of ships connected the film. The fact that they haven't released the first order or resistance faction conversions indicates that they are waiting until they can add more ships.
Unfortunately the Death Star display mat is currently not available, we checked.
Team Covenant Boo! Maybe it will be one of those other new things they are planning for the future. A trench run mission would be super cool.
Great video guys really insightful
Thank you!
This seems like a GREAT idea and i'm really looking forward to this. I just want the conversion kits to have at least 2 cardboard for each generic large based ship and 4 for each small based.
Conversion kits are pretty expensive. If it is a COMPLETE conversion--meaning that I will not need to buy another TIE Advanced to get what's in there, then I am ok with this.
only 2 defenders, 2 xwings etc. so theyve made it so you need to buy 2 for each faction.
What are you specifically referring to?
Also the if you buy an Imp, Rebel and Scum kits, the upgrades and modification cards in the 2nd and 3rd kits are redundant so a waste of money. They really need to make the upgrades just dials and pilots and drop the price. Add all the mods and upgrades to its own box.
Now I see why you guys were so quiet regarding x-wing since a few waves ago... will you go back at it full throttle?
We definitely felt the heaviness of the game at that time. Really happy to see it addressed! It has certainly renewed our interest.

Sold! I'm in!!
Hey I am a retailer, where do I send core boxes and expansions? You have ZERO buybacks, zero credit notes, every retailer that has lot of stock will have to take a loss, and you just reprinted Core box and you KNEW you are gona launch 2.0., thanks FFG, you are such a nice company to work with......
And what about players like me, who bought ships but haven't started playing yet...only to find that almost all of the ships they bought won't be supported for a while?
what0080 you'll still be able to play the original game. But you will be limited when it comes to future tornements and expansions.
Here's an idea: Just go ahead and put ALL of the data into the app, including the dials and record keeping. GO DIGITAL and save your customers some money. And then all we need are the physical ships and a few counters. You can keep the game current by pushing out updates.
Wouldn't that make more sense and not piss off your current customers? Hello, FFG? Is this thing working? Hellooooooo?
Here's my take on it. Buy the conversion kit for the faction you play the most. From there, borrow the cardboard and stuff from other people, or use the cardboard from other ships in the conversion pack to use for other ships. In my opinion, and this is coming from a money starved college kid, this was kinda necessary. Don't believe me? I have three letters for you. HWK.
i am old school on this subject, but what does HWK mean?
Do we know what size the damage deck is going to be I haven't seen any pictures to see if that has changed
The main issue I have is the APP, firstly at a time when we are trying tp get kids of devices and play games like this, they are pulled back to that screen, secondly I really hate having to go online on a pc or phone or whatever to build a squad, part of the pleasure is to surround myself with ships, and build my squad at leisure with no tech in sight. But the main thing I have many old games that I pull out from time to time like the old Star wars Miniatures game(Anyone remember that?) . They are saying that this game will be supported for years, but what happens when its not??? Suddenly you wont be able to use your stuff any more. All your ships factions useless, because the app wont work! That day you will have to fork out again for 3rd edition, or put all your stuff in the bin, at least with 1st edition I will still be able to play it in the retirement home. I'm sorry no second edition for me and mainly for the last reason.
I'm excited for this but even after it comes out I will probably still keep playing the first edition
I always look at the pilot tiles on the base... I dont want to have to ask or walk over and look at the pilot cards!
I got into this in December and since then have amassed 20 ships over the course of the 3 factions including obtaining 3 large ships. I have about 70 upgrade cards which I got largely pre owned on eBay and was looking to get into it competitively in the next month. Only now I find a second edition to be released along with faction upgrade boxes.... I'm really disappointed and won't be able to sell off my upgrade cards as they will be obsolete? I'll openly admit I may not have fully grasped what's involved with 2nd edition but it just feels kinda over for me now in most respects. Will play it casually with my son when he's older but yeah FFG I feel screwed over
New factions? Isnt it about time to add the Seperatists?
With their Buzz Droids!
And the old republic ships!
And the clone wars scum ships.. Hondo and his crew would be awesome, flying saucers of doom!!
...I'd probably go broke if they did this. I can't imagine I wouldn't want to sleep on a bed of Sith Destroyers staring at my Ceiling made from Fury class ships.
Would not want Old Republic.. that has too many factions to choose from.. Would be best to stick with the three timelines we currently have that are within the films. Even though the K-wing comes from after the time of the sequel films and is a rebel ship.. and the rebels have clone wars era ships that they really shouldn't.
I hope the arc 170 gets s foils stuff like the x wing
Nice to see Iden Versio (from SWBF2) being introduced at the 21:47 mark. The new cards in the conversion kits are a welcome addition to the game, and makes it easier to swallow. Still not sure why we need x3 Decimators in the Galactic kit though.
Maizrim yeah seriously confused by that I’m hoping it’s a mistake
Maizrim the x3 decimated was a typo. It's supposed to be 2 deci and 3 gunboats, but it was shown 3 deci and 2 gunboats.
Thinking about this Further, this is a LOT of money for a lateral shift. $150 in conversion for 3 Factions (not sure how much for First Order and Resistance). Plus $40 for base set.
Then as someone points out...you might need more than one conversion kit. So, easily $200-300 for JUST conversion (well, I guess 3 ships in base set too).
What we get for that are improved rules and hopefully better gameplay. That's a pretty steep price.
Yeah, really curious to see how it all works out. We are pretty much looking at it as an initial $90 investment (one faction upgrade, one core set) to get in on the new edition - then upgrading another faction a few months later or just sticking with one.
I'm probably gonna upgrade, but I'm betting some existing players will say "No Thanks." FFG is certainly betting on getting more new players and growing that way.
I guarantee FFG will underprint (or limited run) the conversion kits and scalpers will buy up all the stock and resell components piece meal at an inflated price.
If FFG wants to keep customers, they need to pump up the supply to ensure every player will have all the conversion kits they will need to play.
good thing we got dope channels like you guys to help us learn the new tricks. If I didn't watch all the videos you guys put out for competitions, I wouldn't have been able to teach my wife the game. Now we get to bring in new players and make the game more accessible for casuals? I'm down. I don't even mind buying a new core set. I'm even considering doing a subscription for as specific faction now that the game is definitely going to be supported thoroughly for the foreseeable future.
That is awesome! Thank you so much for commenting! It really all comes down to support like your's that empowers us to continue raising the bar.
Cheers guys! Thanks for the reply and good luck with the new content!
I was considering getting into the game but now I’ll wait until the new edition comes out
Yeeeeee I got a heart
It's fun to fly the new resistance with old good guys and new bad guys with old bad guys... now it's going to be 50$ x 4 to upgrade to v2. Ouch. They should have just kept the 3 factions. The newer ships should be better than the older, but the older will be cheaper because they're not as good (eg. t-65 vs. t-70). Now maybe they will be trying to equate Luke with Poe?... that would be a mistake. Poe has a better machine (and probably has force powers too). It would be great if the points are still easy to find so we can play old+new good together. Also, I wish Boba still had an imperial version so I don't have to buy scum just to be able to field him properly. I hope they fix his dial so it's more maneuverable (eg. chasing Obi Wan through the asteroid field).
i Might have missed it. What about pilot cards in the conversion kits? I like the direction the game is going. Back to dog fighting. Out guessing your opponent.
From what we have gathered so far, pilot cards, upgrade cards and maneuver dials are included in the conversion kits!
I used the hull point on the cards when i flew against unfamillary ahips
Color blind nerds rejoice! I've had to open my app and check the red/green maneuvers for too long.... now if we can get dice that aren't red and green...
I'm in your boat too.. i have red/green problems too (rather a weakness instead of being outright colorblind) so for me it's hard to differentiate small areas of red or green.
FPAlpha I’m not colour blind but it’s nice that they are making the game more accessible to everyone
12:22 , 13:32 , 14:48 & 19:01 Answers the most famous questions. Thank me later and lets be optimistic guys. Bye & Subscribed ^^
Why are small ships 33% more expensive??????? $5 more on a $15 part is a HUGE price hike. Not cool.
Increase of production costs. Price of paper increased 50% last year, and plastic has risen 10% as China has implemented more environmental regulations. Crude oil prices have also increased, and demand in general has increased.
Jesse Haulk The emphasis on 2.0 is to focus on the flying and the companion APP. This leans toward less paper components in each expansion.
You'll still need paper components for all the cards you'll need. They just removed the point values from the cards.
Yeah, but I bet they stayed with the same Chinese production companies vs. bidding it out and finding a more competitive price. They just said, "Meh, we'll just pass the cost to our customers."
Seriously, I'm sure that's exactly how it went down, but with more sinister music in the background.
iamallthatiscomedy maybe in 3.0 you'll be able to take the pilot out and play with it while you wait for your turn -_-
Perfectly happy with the 2nd. Like the addition of the app allowing to keep the game balanced. I have had a lot of fun with all the models I have bought so far, and being used to wargames each new edition usually means a certain cost in tools or books in order to move on, and I totally understand that it is how it goes. I could not see them doing it any other way quite honestly and like the tweaks they have brought and the flexibility. I don't mind the cost as I will most likely be getting all at once, but I feel like this is renewing my interest in the game. I want the company to strive so I can keep on playing the game, I just hope they will utilize this new system to keep it balanced, really love the game. I think a lot of people under-estimate the costs associated with running a board game company, producing, bringing things by boat, translation, marketing, testing, and I think the quality of the game justifies the price as it truly represent the Dog-fight that I want to play in the Star Wars universe.
Thanks for commenting! The costs of running a company are certainly to be considered. We are excited to see how everything progresses.
So we will require the app. Will we have to pay for it?
It does not appear so.
Boy, as a new player trying to get into X-Wing today, Andrew's talk about the squad builder web app, and why it's better than points and slots on the cards has aged super poorly. FFG's web tool is isn't being updated, the 2.5 rules have invalidated the quick-build cards in the expansions I've bought, and I'm stuck with either 3rd party apps I hope have been updated or a massive PDF spreadsheet of points values from developer's website. In either case, critical information for playing the game isn't in the box AND I'm finding out a bunch of the cards I've got no longer, by the current rules, work together the way they say they do on paper. This isn't an easier, more convenient way to play the game; it's 1.0's frustration with outdated print AND the inconvenience of needing a digital guide for playing my physical game.
I think it's crazy that, when faced with the issue of their game balance being so fragile the devs felt they couldn't print fundamental elements of it on static cards anymore, the big 2.0 redesign wouldn't be to fix THAT issue so that they COULD print all the information players need to play their game.
It's really solid to have this retrospective. Appreciate you sharing it!
Regardless of how we all justify the costs, 2.0 is a new and different game. And is killing 1.0. We will all have to buy new ships, whether it's a conversion, core or blister pack. We will all HAVE to use their new app. And for us "casual flyers", that aren't wealthy (or CZcams game reviewers) it is devastating. And while everyone is parroting "yes, you can use your 1.0 stuff", in reality they are saying all my old stuff is garbage...but as a consolation prize they will sell me conversion kits so I can still use the little plastic plastic models. And what about my 3 kids that don't have smart phones, ipads, or infinite access to computers (it's called "responsible parenting")? So as of September we will just fly 1.0 at home, flying casual games, but FFG has eliminated us from any sort of store competitions (which were always good fun). I guess "the meta" has spoken and us "casuals" go the way of the dinosaurs.
Great vid. Keep it up.
As for the whiners, aren't we glad they're not telling us to throw away our collections? I did a rough calculation of the MSRP of the ships in the conversion kit, and it's close to $600. That's how much we would spend if we had to start over for ONE FACTION. Or, the nice people at FFG give us the opportunity to get that much value out of second edition for JUST $50. Even though I'd have to buy two Imperial conversion kits to fix all my stuff (and some of the ships I don't own, so they're kind of useless for now), I'm glad they're doing something to revitalize this game. I can slowly buy in, just like I slowly bought in originally. This is very welcome news.
If you calculate all the ships, yes. But the makeup of the boxes is just nonsense from a player's standpoint. 2 X-Wings per set for the Rebels? 4 regular TIEs but 3(!) Decimators per Imperial kit? Buying the starter set again to get crucial stuff like a damage deck? That's 140 bucks to run a simple TIE swarm.
I foresee a lot of high-quality PDFs of the whole box contents in the future, with only people playing in FFG events really buying into the conversion kits.
Check it out, it shows now 2 decimators and 3 starwings, it was changed!
Why is Rebel Nym dead?
Oh no… I thought this video was an announcement for the sequel of the X-Wing game on PC.
Looking back at all the hot takes, hilarious
But where is mu N1???
No one said you can't continue to play the original game the way it was.
So the 4 ships of the first order Will be its own faction.. they need to push some new stuff out
It kinda depends whether those 4 pieces can stand on it's own.
The issue is we kinda don't have a whole lot to go on in the new era. The only era we have is limited to 7 and 8, which in terms of time period couldn't have possibly covered a time greater then 2 weeks tops. Which compared to the OT, which spanned years between each movie, there was a sense of change in every movie. Not so much a crit as an observation.
I think that is why they aren't releasing the conversion kit yet. They said this will be aligned to Wave 2 of Version 2. I am willing to bet Wave 2 will include some First Order and Resistance stuff for sure to flesh out the factions.
Luckily we have a new cartoon set in that era coming out this fall.
Really it's all about Disney wanting their name on all the branding. The only non-Disney Wars stuff that is left is the MMO game Star Wars the Old Republic for die hard fans of KOTOR era.
While it’s nice that they are taking colorblind people into consideration, that could have been fixed with just selling new dials for 4 and change. If the rules will be a little simpler, great. The inclusion of the Force, awesome. Putting all the point costs on a website or an app where they can be regularly tweaked? Nah. This seems geared way more toward tournament players than casual players. I do agree the game needed a fix, but how about ban or edit all the overpowered, zero point cost upgrades they kept adding in? How about just fix Miranda since she’s obnoxiously overpowered? FFG did it with Dengar! I don’t think the prices for the conversions are too high, but this all seems a bit to much too soon.
Thanks for commenting! We are concerned about how often updates will be pushed out through the app as well. So far we have been reassured that balancing will be posted no faster than 1-2 months, and they will announce changes before hand, so no one is caught off guard.
The conversion kits, at $150 for the three is daylight robbery. These should be free to first edition regulars!
Planning to ask Andrew about this option in our post-launch interview with him. It certainly would have been a nice move for players.
Do you really need 3 conversion kits out the gate? Are you not content to get the one of the faction you play the most and wait to get the rest later?
love all these salty crybabies complaining about FFG "Money grabbing". They're fixing the game and it couldn't have been done without a total revamp. Get excited.
I'm glad you have good taste in mediocre/avg games. You can look around and play games where core sets alone give you more replay value than a game + ten expansions :) Salt is good.
Nain1982 I don’t have good taste in “average / mediocre” games; I have good taste in GREAT games. X-Wing is one of FFG’s most popular games and I find that people who get salty over game changes or mechanics just either lack the skill to play and learn or have a hard time keeping up with the meta. If you pay attention, x-wing is a game that you can typically run 3-4 decent ships because of the point cost of your squad and they give you cool models that you don’t have to assemble or paint, which is a value in itself. You’d understand if you’ve ever heard of or actually played Warhammer, Star Wars Legion, etc.. basically any miniatures game... The core set gives you 3 ships and all the components you need for about 25-35$ depending where you buy from and the expansions are about 15$, which you get about 2-4 every wave. That is a lot cheaper than any of the other mini games I’ve seen. As for replay value? There’s a TON of replay value. I have a difficult time choosing what I want to play because there’s so many list combinations as of current. If you think it doesn’t, then either you have too much time on your hands or you’re just looking for something to complain about.
Nain1982 I’m hyped because I haven’t actually played x wing yet but it’s nice to have to start the game and just go along as ships come up then have to immediately jump off into the deep end with no prior experience. I’m just hoping we get an a wing, ywing, b wing and the millennium falcon
You must suck at this game ti do notizie notice 2.0 Is in a alpha test and realesed... Etherial rules are the synthoms of uncertain game. Adding adding adding.... Less Is more You F*** idiots!!!
You guys are killing me here! 😁😁 first you get me hooked on Destiny, then Netrunner, Arkham, Godtear, and now back into XWing! 😂😂 it's a good day, I'm really excited to try the second edition, especially the quick build lists, those sound amazing. Great content guys, keep it coming!
Thanks Will!
Great Video. Really looking forward to 2nd Edition.
And by the way: FFG killed GW for me. So happy with Legion and now the 2nd. Thank you, guys! 😎
Thanks Joachim!
I've been looking forward to an extensive upgrade to this game for a long time. Then FFG decided to go about it in the worst way possible. I thought I had escaped apparently needless price hikes and cash grab schemes when I left GW behind. Now this. In the words of old Ben Kenobi, You were supposed to destroy GW, not join them !
The reason why they are doing a second edition has nothing to do with what they want to do gamewise. They want to simply MAKE MORE MONEY! I am glad I only played pretty much one faction. I feel bad for the people who have every ship in the line.
Look at all those glorious products behind him...NOT ONE MENTIONED today.
"All your ships are valid!" -> for a price of 50 bucks per Kit.
A collector that has the three factions = 150 bucks to stay in the game.
A tournament player that plays one faction = 100 bucks to stay in the game. The same with two factions = 200 bucks.
A nice way to profit on people who already gave them money. Way to go, FFG! ;)
PS. Good I dropped this game by Wave 2 when they started milking the ca$hcow harder!
this will be expensive but at least the game will be balanced again!
And hopefully remain balanced!
I just hate how i have to put more money into effectively replacing my fleet just to re-balance it. Feels like a ripoff.
lyianx well of course you don't have to pay. I'm sure a ton of players will stick to first edition. at least we now will have the option to pursue a balanced game.
could have been balanced without requiring a cent from current players
for about 3 months til the next new release that then breaks the game.
I'm thrilled. Totally fantastic news.
33% price hike? So here in the UK we will be paying an average of £15-17 per ship while yanks are still paying $15-17...nice. no thanks FFG. You're the new Games Workshop.
Hey look fleet troopers for legion in the background too bad ffg has horrible logistics and I can't purchase them yet.
I can see how this can annoy people who have like 100 ships a faction because of the frankly stupid conversion cost... but frankly I've already spent so stupidly much on this game that as long as I can convert all my favorite Imperial ships with one kit, I don't care that much. As long as there are still defenders....
Haha, well there are still Defenders! And every ship should be playable in Second Edition given the app/point/upgrade slot balancing.
$250 - 300 to keep my collection playable and doesn't include epic.... Sweet move FFG. Prepping my stuff for Ebay like my buddies. That used market is going to be flush with ships, guess you had to raise the price on small ships for the expected dip in revenue due to the secondary market being full of ships for sale.
If you can complain about the app in these comments, then you have access to the app and should probably stop whining.
good i skipped first edition completely, thanks all for playtesting anyways :D
This is out rages. It’s not fair!
It's worse! He's overcritical; he doesn't understand!
What wouldn't be fair would be making you buy every expansion again, like GW.
"Bolted on to the core experience?" Are you kidding me? YOU, FFG, YOU designed the expansions, so if there's a reason to fix this, it's because of all your design flaws, JumpMaster probably the worst of them all. Sometimes it felt like you had your heads up your ... when play testing your expansions - and I'm using "testing" in its broadest sense as possible.
Soooo
It’s just more complicated
So disappointed. I just bought a whole collection. My ships are valid, but I have to buy a (fourth) base set... and 5 upgrade packs... And that doesn't even cover the epic ships yet. I cant shake my head hard enough.
If I can’t get into the 2.0 by sending in all my proofs of purchase from version 1.0 there will be NO 2.0 for me. Yes it is that simple
@0:22 Why did FFG make the decision for X-wing 2nd edition? Answer: "Because selling the same ships twice makes double the money of only selling it once!"
The Swartz and yet they'll also be selling cheaper upgrade-only expansions, so veterans don't have to buy models they already own! How evil!!
may the $ or the £ be with you (depending on where you actually live)
I guess the good news is that if you don't plan on upgrading to 2.0, you won't be tempted to buy any of the new 2.0 ships either. This will really help my wallet as I won't need to buy x-wing going forward.
Yeah i thought that too. Just gonna finish my 1.0 collection and be happy because its finally finished
Can't help feeling disappointed that a Star Wars Lcg co op replacement for the current Lcg wasn't announced.
Game of Thrones, Eldrich Horror, Netrunner...and now Xwing...seems like FFG is fond of running games and then rebooting them entirly. They had their cash grab with the never before heard or seen jump master 5000 breaking the game for over a year, failing to nerf the scum ship 4-5times, then FAQ ing actual upgrade slots from JM5K ships...is this a sign of incompetence or is this another cash grab so ppl will buy the conversion kits so they can play on?
Glad I switched to 40K
I’ve been gone for a few years because of college and stuff just coming up, and honestly I’m probably not coming back and buying their $150 worth of cardboard to make my hundreds of dollars I already spent worth something again. Plus it’s total BS in this video, the guy says that if you play one faction you only have to buy one new set. Except everyone has shit from basically every faction because of the way that FFG did first edition with the upgrade cards. Pretty garbage move in my opinion, and FFG can fuck right off. On top of it I’d rather have all my models be stationary and not cost more all of a sudden but be able to move, surprisingly enough I don’t buy miniatures for their moving components.
0:27 " Uhhhh.... Well..... We're greedy and want more cash."
8:25 "We added an app so that tournament players (the smallest segment of the consumer base) don't have arguments. Derp
Good grief, people; stop whining! Games cost money. If you don’t want to buy any new toys, stop buying them and play with the toys you already have. No one will stop you! FFG will not send Edition Police to break down your door and force you to upgrade.
Alex Taylor unless you want to play in tournaments.....
Except that will split the player base.
Alex Taylor, tell that to all the A Game of Thrones LCG 1st Edition players... wait... there are none... strange, ain't it?!
That comment is pretty reductive.
Well, I’ve never played any CCGs, but I know a lot of people who play WHFB 8th edition because they don’t like AoS, even though it’s no longer officially supported, and some friends of mine a few years back ran a D&D 1st edition campaign just for kicks. I played some WEG d6 Star Wars and SW Miniatures Battles even while WotC was producing SW books and minis. My point being (speaking as someone who fully intends to upgrade to X-Wing 2nd edition and has no qualms about doing so), there are an awful lot of ‘obsolete’ games being played out there, and it doesn’t make them any less fun. I couldn’t care less about tournament play or competition, but for those who do, this is simply the cost of their chosen hobby. It’s how the business works, and no amount of complaining will change that.
Point 1. - perhaps you're mistaken about WHFB 8th Edition with The 9th Age, which is the current Warhammer Fantasy Battles edition maintained by the active community since GW shifted to AOS and it's totally free. I repeat, totally free. And yes, there are players playing it because, well, guess what, there are tournaments of it (even ITC, ETC ones).
Point 2. - some friends of yours run TSR D&D 1, cool. Go to a LGS, any one where D&D is being played and tell me how many groups do you see playing D&D 1? Right!
Point 3. - don't compare "obsolete games" or "dead games" as the examples you pointed with "updated games". There's a huge difference between a game that is abandoned by its manufacturer and people play it anyways with the rules up to the date of its end and a game that is updated to a new edition that is not retro-compatible with it's previous one.
We're not talking about a Warhammer or Flames of War army that is outdated but still playable in the updated edition until the new book comes out, we are talking about a whole game needing to be upgraded to be played in the latest edition.
Point 4. - "I couldn’t care less about tournament play or competition" -> cool, I also don't care about you or your opinion. See my point? Right.
Point 5. - "this is simply the cost of their chosen hobby. It’s how the business works, and no amount of complaining will change that." -> No, it is not. And that is exactly the point.
Now, on the other two examples I can simply shift from one edition to another by simply buying the army book. 20 bucks and I have everything for my army ready to go. If we look at Warmachine/Hordes, I dare to say as it is right now it costs me 0 bucks to upgrade my army since the cards and all the info regarding my gaming pieces are free to download on the manufacturer website.
Now 50 bucks for cards?! 100 to a competitive player? 150 to a collector?!
Sorry but that's not how business works, that's how exploitation works. They, FFG, are milking the players that were already milked when they got in the game. And now they have to buy, again, the cards they had bought for their game, again...
But you're right on one thing, complaining will not change that. But do you know what makes a change? The exactly same thing that changed A Game of Thrones LCG, from being the top played LCG to tank-down near-dead LCG as it is. Will X-Wing survive the tanking?! Let's see... with Legion happening right now and cannibalizing the X-Wing market this 2nd Edition may be the decline of X-Wing Miniatures Game.
I spent over $3,000 on X-Wing so far. You can tell that guy that FFG just lost a customer because of their greed.
Tabitha Martin you spent over 3000, but now less than 200 is totally unacceptable?
Lol.
+Strider Zessei youbetcha. it's the principle of it. I refuse to support greed. I am done with X-wing, and done with FFG.
Tabitha Martin but FFG is a business. Their whole purpose is to make money, partly, yes, for a profit, but also because this is people's livelihood here.
For the sake of argument, how would you do it if you were in their shoes?
I'll give you 100 bucks for your ships only, you can keep 1E upgrades and pilots ;P
FFG will loose most of their casual x-wing players...
yep
This video just needs more mustache-twirling and shiny new fighters with articulation. $20 gets you S-foils! New! Improved!
I understand why they did all of this but, I'm very disappointed in the decision to take information off the cards and put them into an app. Frankly I think the design of the cards looks horrible and I'm not a fan of having to check my phone to see what can go on what ship and point costs. You have no Idea how good it felt to have a game that didn't involve your phone. I'm also not a fan of having to spend $50 per faction just so I can use ships I've already paid for. I don't have a lot of ships, but the ones I play with regularly are split between the Rebels and Resistance. I can't even use Resistance ships for a year until they announce the conversion kit. It's going to cost me $100 just to play with what I already have, and thats if I just stick to my main drivers - heaven help me if I want to switch up factions.
I think I'm done with X-Wing. It was a good ride. Besides, we're never going to get a N-1 Starfighter anyways...
I understand what they are trying to do but the way it's being done is a major dick move. They haven't even released wave 14 yet! To top it off all your old cards, tokens, dials, templates are potentially worthless now. The conversion kits are also going to fuel the reseller market too. I can imagine many being snapped up and broken down and sold individually.
I think the very minimum that FFG could have offered is an affordable component only upgrade set. This way existing players could gan access to any unique tokens and templates required to play, while using the APP to replace the cards.
Just wait, the ap will have in app purchase and then a subscription. This is crap!
Why? Too make more money!
While the kits seems slightly pricey, how much development hours, play testing, artwork and logistics etc went into developing X-Wing 2.0? How many years worth of work is this for the team and support staff? I don't know but I think it might be more than we think. Games are a hobby for us, but a livelihood to developers. When Apple releases a new iPhone do they call you up and go "Hey, pay us like 10 bucks and we will send you this new phone! We know how much you already paid for your last one"? Why would you expect a game developer to be any different?
X-Wing 1.0 is the product you paid for, and it is still the product that you own. Nobody is taking your ships and 1.0 rulebook away. There is also nothing written in the terms of the sale of your 1.0 ships that FFG was committed to continue supporting it forever for the rest of your life.
X-Wing 2.0 is the new product that FFG is selling, thankfully with an option for 1.0 owners to make their old product compatible with the new product. They are not obliged to make it cheaper for you because you decided that you needed 4 of every ship in your life.
lol remember star wars lcg? game of thrones 1.0?
So an app is now required to play a tabletop game... Damn they might have just killed their flagship product. How's GoT 2.0 working out FFG?
You DO need the app he says in the interview 10:09. "You'll just need to have access to it before hand." How gracious of them not to require it at the table.
Hmm. Not according to FFG.
they said theres a website and a phone app. Don't act like 95% of the playerbase doesn't use any kind of list builder, its fine.
He specifically says that if you want to play in organized competitive play, you will *need* access to the internet *or* the app. I think anyone seriously playing this game can swing that...
The point is longevity. By tying it to a required app, down the road when FFG stops supporting it, the company folds, loses Star Wars licensing etc., the game will take a serious and unnecessary hit.
i remember when you guys used to do podcasts *sob.
Haha! Recording one about Second Edition right now!
Cool. Nice video. Necessary to evolve. Ffg isnt a charity. Things cost money...let's go!
Yeah, but I didn’t think they were Games Workshop either. Now I know.
Dude this isn't even close to Games Workshop level shenanigans. 5% quarterly price hikes till the game unit equivalent of a tie fighter costs 50 dollars. Hiring solo writers who do not know the rules of the game to create factions Not what is going on. Releasing content without play testing, or telling devs to intentionally break the game so that they can sell the new hotness then not fix the balance of the models that broke the game for 2+ years. Firing/forcing out the best developers on their team not happening. Attempting to censure community to isolate themselves from player opinions, we are watching a press release with semi-independent community members. Be careful before you invoke the "just like the Natzi's" argument (to be clear I actually really enjoy GW games and products but sometimes their being a publicly traded company has caused them to make business choices that have caused harm to the games they develop and maintain).
The price hike to wave ships comes from the fact they are no longer relying on you buying ships from other factions for upgrade cards. WHICH IS A BOON WE ASKED FOR. an official app for points and updated FAQ most of us were using 3rd party versions of this already so clearly there is a demand. Turrets were a stupid Idea and they are from the looks of it no longer exist in manner they did before. And now with conversion kits there will be a huge spike in the resale market of excess ships so there might actually now exist a used market for stuff other than cards also a great option for getting into the game at a lower price point for at least a little while.
Goal #1 How do we squeeze more money out of our player base.
Goal #2 Change Green maneuvers to Blue, but we will leave firing arcs, focus/evade tokens and agility Green.
On a dial with both green and red, some people struggle to see the difference which would obviously create problems in X-Wing. Colour blind doesn't mean green or red is invisible. So an all green token is no problem.
If the really wanted to 'squeeze more money out of you,' they would make you buy all the models again...
